SLICK POTATO HEAD..I once had a talk with Mike Manning, Joe's guitar tech. I was asking him about how often he changes the washer on Joe's wammy bar. He said usually once a week. Now keep in mind that most players dont use a wammy as much as Joe does & when on tour,,lets say Joe plays 5 nites out of the week for instance & plays several different guitars during each set,,the wear & tear on the washer in my opinion is really not alot. (BUT THEN IM NOT JOE, NOR AM I HIS WASHERS) I do know the most trem systems are very tricky as far as needing to be working complete as a unit,,if one thing is out,,the whole system is down, Thats just My opinion. I have 2 JS1000's & am constantly having some kind of problems. My guess in your case is,,,You need new washers & if your screw is constantly loose...HERE WE GO AGAIN..lol you need a new screw..HMMMM.......OR,,, try using some type of LOCK TIGHT grease. Hope that helps..DAKOOK

Suzie, Tony doesn't make all the decisions.....he has a panel of advisors, his ministers. Our troops could actually have refused to go and fight. They couldn't have been forced cause it was against human rights. I think the reality is that enough people were conned into thinking there was a cause to fight for, that there was a real threat. It is now quite obvious that there was none.

Anyway, that's all a little off-topic! hehe. I don't think it's fair to blame Tony for the fact that a bunch of wackos decided to blow up some trains and buses......extremists are unpredictable, they never do what you'd expect.

Clarky, do you really reckon the SAS and SBS would have been deployed? I can't decide.....I know they haven't been used much in recent times 'cause there's not much in the way of "traditional" terrorism any more. I'd like to think they are seeing some action though, it's about time some properly-trained specialists got to do what they're good at. SWAT don't quite cut it. ehem.

slanshroom: the attacks were just raking up some old story....it is suspected that the attackers belonged to Lashkar-e-Toiba

what i was trying to say earlier though was that terrorism is not new... & one tends to notice only when directly affected or when the media makes a whole lot of noise about it

& destroying a couple of countries in the name of war on terror dosen't do a damn thing to root out terrorism .... we have to work it out together i agree, but not out of fear that if we do not side a certain party, there wil be unplesant consiquences

Davey, I say throttle him anyway (wait - unless it's your father-in-law). You won't be any cooler, but you might at least put a bit of a smile on your face :) Our back yard is swarming with Japanese Beetles. Big noisy buggers that feel like you got hit with a stone when they hit you. UGH! Nasty! Better than skeeters and swamp~ass though. LOL!!

Party today! It's the BIG fireworks display to end a week of the carnival in town. Only 2 blocks away, so we can get our swerve on and walk there and back, or just sit on the deck in the yard and listen to everyone say "ooooohhhhh" "aaaaahhhh" and watch everything from there. LOL! It's the best night of the year IMO. I LOVE fireworks! The entire town is jammed all day with people having parties & picnics, so the fireworks aren't the only things lit up. LOL! We stand about 100+ yards from the pots, so we can see the action. Firetruck are everywhere, and it's a killer time had by all :) I can't wait for 10:00 p.m.!!

Sounds pretty sweeeeet...I too am a lover of fireworks I can remember when I used to live in Cyprus (because my dad was in the army and posted out there, best place I've ever lived hands down) we used to walk down to the cliffs where there was a BBQ and deck chairs and kids with sparklers and everyone was all happy, then at about 9-10pm they would launch the fireworks from the top of the cliff at a slight angle so you could see the reflection in the sea...which worked out really well because as u can imagine at that time of night it would've been black.

I miss Cyprus and all its random animals, nice people, and wicked restaurants.

brother al, I think it's the alcohol content in your sweat that's rusting your guitar parts. lmao! My suggestion is - to rig up a shield like those found on salad bars over all the metal parts of your guitar. That will stop the dripping. Now as for the sweat from your hands - lunch lady gloves. That should do the trick right nicely if i do say so myself :)

At a conference on the supernatural, one of the speakers aksed, "Who here has seen a ghost?" Most of the hands went up. " And how many of you have had some form of interaction with a ghost?" About half of the hands remained up. "Okay, now how many of you have had physical contact with a ghost?" Three hands stayed up, and there was a slight murmur in the crowd.
"Well, thats very interesting. Let me ask if any of you have, how shall I put this, been intimate with a ghost?" One hand stayed in the air. The speaker was astonished. "Sir, are you telling us you've actually had a sexual liason with a ghost?"
The guy with his hand up suddenly looked embarassed and said, "Oh sorry, I thought you said 'Goat'."

Some more news on bomb-scares and stuff, one of my friends was up there going to a "Funeral For A Friend" gig and was talking to a policeman who said there had been a bomb found...I don't know if thats true but controlled explosions have been carried out.

Naty I just typed a 40 minute response to your mail and lost it, goddamnit !!! After an 11 hour day in the office an it being nearly midnight that'sa little more than I can take - lol Anyway the main vibe was, don't sweat it, stay positive and live your life as best you can, each and everyday. It takes guts to follow a dream and courage to leave your comfort zone. Carpe Diem Naty.......................I wish you happiness.

Dave Hope you get things sorted man. Change can effect different people in different ways and as I know from my own (not always pleasant) experience it is easy to get caught up in yourself when the going gets tough, but the rest of the world is still there and reacting to the same shit that you are dealing with. I think that you're hearing me bro' :-)

Hello. First I'd like to say Joe Satriani is an amazing guitarist, and this ... "Message" is for him. My name is Shawn and I am a self taught guitarist that has been playing for about three and a half to four years. I've always wanted guitar lessons but on the other hand I have always thought "Why take them since I've reached my skill level at such a short amount of time". I've come to realize (After watching and listening to some of my friends guitar work) That I need help. I don't know much of really anything. All I know how to do is read tabs. I call myself a rhythm guitarist but something is wrong with my pick hand (Right). You know when you hold a pick between you index finger and your thumb? Then go up and down on one string, or a set of stings really fast? I think it's called tremolo picking?) Well I can not do that to save my life. I try but my hand and my arm get tense with in seconds. Also, my fret board hand (Left) my fingers will not move as fast as I would like them to. They too tense up. It's really starting to get to me because I feel like a horrible guitarist. My other problem is getting lessons. I know I have to pay some one ... But with what? I'm not too good with money right now. It’s really bringing me down. Please, if there is anything I can do let me know. I really need help. Thank you. Shawn

SLICK POTATO HEAD...yes they are,,I dont know what kind of ax you play but here's a tip...on my JS1000's there is a little groove that the washers clip into,,what I do when in a pinch is get some PLUMMER's TAPE and and put one wrap around the grove,,to me I look at it like surgery..I have small scissors & cut the tape the width of the grove,,wrap it around ONE time,,then clip the washer on. You dont want the washer too tight when you push it in the hole that holds the trem.(THIS TIME & THIS TIME ONLY DO YOU NOT WANT THE FIT TO BE TIGHT,,LOL) all other time,,YESSSSSSS I will say,, I do this ONLY when I'm out of washers & in a pinch or really need to play. Also is there a screw driver slot on the trem it self?? Not the trem bar but the HOLE shall we say,,if so,,carfully tighten that using a thin screw driver & I can just about garantee you dont have one,,lol...Good Luck,,DAKOOK

The secret of guitar is to be completely relaxed... never let yourself tense up, if you practice being in a relaxed state, guitar playing becomes alot more fluent, and when your practicing speed picking, never rush it, if you try to exceed your level of ability, it will backfire. With a metronome, play a certain lick that you know well, crank up the metronome till youve reached your capability in a relaxed way, then keep at that kevek, and if you keep playing, before you know it, you can play it a bit faster!

SHAWNJ..welcome,,I like the analisis of your playing,,First,,I dont think any of us (NOT EVEN JOE) are at the level of playing we want to be,,thats why we practice, practice, practice. I too was self taught and did well with it,,but I got to a level with my playing that all I was doing was getting faster but not going anywhere. I could put in a satch CD and get very close if not right on with most of his songs. When I tried to play sweet leads I could do ok,,but not like I was when jammin to Joe. Personally,,I think one reason your hands are hurting could be the positioning of your hands. YES,,I would say you need lessons. Its not a bad thing ,,just a need & want to get better. I listened to some songs that STEVEE T has done & thought they were very nice,,yet he is taking lessons from a GREAT guitarest. Also..I would like you too keep in mind one thing,,no matter how good you are,,there is always somone thats better. I too take lessons and have had to change pretty much ALOT of my method of playing,,but its paid off in ways I never thought possible..GOOD LUCK MAN,,NEVER STOP PLAYING & PRACTICE,PRACTICE,PRACTICE!!
