I read somewhere (cant remember for the life of me where) that Django was in a house fire and that his ring finger and pinky were 'melted' (for lack of a better word) together immobilising them, so he ended up only using his index and middle finger to play.
Thats what I read anyway, not sure how accurate that is.

Cuth - Now don't go gettin yer panties all in a bunch. Even though I talk a bunch of crap I do have friends from all walks, *shudders* ever NASCAR fans. I think you know from previous posts that I don't harbor elitist type views with the exception of people who are not from the fancy side of the tracks (as I was not) and accept that as their lot in life. I have worked(ing) hard at raising the living standards of myself and my family and have very little patients for people who blame others for their situation and make no attempts at changing things. "That's the way it's always been" is the phrase that gets under my skin. But, along with that if you empty Porta-Potties for a livin, or any other task looked upon unfavorably, are proud of what you, are happy doin it, do it well and don't complain... then more power to ya cause you are one of the few.

lol...Michelle....you're right, we can't put aside the pretty colors..lol ! On a side note, I manged to see the GD about 25+ times before my brain threw in the towel...lol ;) And I actually quit going to shows about 6 years before Jerry croaked.
Delfino....I'm pretty sure what you said is accurate. I think all guitar players after Django are spoiled. If I ever start to complain about the progress of my playing abilities I'll think of Django.

Delfino, I can't tell what kind of coyote that was. Was it the Imgonnakickyerass breed, or the Imstillgonnakickyerass one?
LOL!
I think it was from the Martysabutt species, no doubt about that :)

Joe,
Im Jake from Sydney. Im writing in gratitude for all of your hard work. Ive played since the age of 7, im 28 now. I grew up in Torquay Australia near Bells Beach- a famous surf beach. This area has alot of up and coming guitarists, as something about being near the surf fires up the creative side. I heard Flying In a Blue Dream on the radio in 1989, at about 12 years old, and i bought the tape. It influenced me immensely, and i tried as hard as i could to play along, as well as i listenned to it non stop. The extremist, was when i really excelled on my guitar, you really taught me well. I lived on 300 acres in Torquay, and could turn the music up echoing over the paddocks, as i played along through a Roland JC120. I had all of your albums, and knew them inside and out and back to front.
At 18, i must say, i was good! i could play most of your superb music, with out thinking, and doing that gave me real joy. ( I hotted up an old samick with a set of dimazio freds- which i wired in myself, and they sure put a smile on my face, even on the samick. ) The freedom in your playing, the soul, and precision, the tone, was an expression and an outlet for me in my playing that has now become the underpinning characteristics of who i am today, basically, your music has powered me through life. It is always there for me. Your earlier albums were so good, your talent, and sounds were aural pleasure, they basically rocked hard, but were full of great melody too. That Ibanez tone, and feedback, and your signature screems on the floyd, those immaculate riffs, and your incredible imagination and creativity, is all layed down in a few albums that will remain classic, and second to none, for all to love for all time. Your new stuff just blows my mind. At first i was abit unsure when you swayed from your classic Satriani style and as your sounds became more modern in Crystal Planet, but in hindsight, what you have given us, from Time Machine, to Is There Love In Space, is just spectacular. Each album is a masterpiece. Your unique Satriani Style is there, more than ever, and you have tried new things that havent been done before, that are very exciting. I love Engines of Creation- Its modern Satriani that we could not have done without, everything you do is amazing. Strange Beautiful Music and Is There Love in Space, not only have complimented your career, given us some amazing listenning, inspirational playing, but you are still leading the way, for guitarists of the future. Taking instrumentational rock, and forging a path into the future that only you seem to know how to do.
This is my only opportunity, to express to you what you, and your music mean to me, and let you know just how inspirational you are. You have been a true role model for me, and i have alot to thank you for. Im sure that balancing your family with your career is very difficult. - both personally and creatively. ( I know that my wife comes storming out of the bedroom if im still trying to record something at 1:30 am- but she doesnt understand that when the ideas are flowing, everything is working, you have to keep going )
I just hope that you find you are still able to love what you do, and that you are thinking of us, your true fans, as well as yourself. I am probably selfish, i want to get as much as i can from those fingers of yours before they start slowing down. They are in brilliant form right now, and every note we here from them is valued. Even if you slow down on touring, and just record, i would rather that personally if it meant you had more time to think, and come up with what only Satriani can, as well as being with your loved ones and enjoying the rewards of what you have done for yourself over the years.
ill link this message due to its length.

One last thing. Ive lived in Sydney for 6 years. I have seen Malmsteen, and Vai at Salina's, both of those shows were awsome. Vai did a stage dive, he put on a hell of a show. Malmsteen did his incredible thing with most of the tracks from his trial by fire album- the only one i like of his. I recently saw Vai at the Enmore- his shows were sold out in two days- and i was there, with my jaw open, loving every second. But I was thrilled to bits when i found out you were coming to Sydney. I had two tickets for standing at the stage where i could watch your every note, and re-live every song as i know them so well, but in disbelief that i was finally getting to see you do it live. Not much else would have made me more excited in life. ( hey, we live a sheltered life over here )
But on New Years Eve the Australian Government sent the Australian Navy, HMAS Kanimbla, which is the ship i work on, to Banda Aceh, after the Tsunami, to deliver freshwater and food, provide emergency medical surgery, and aid with clean up of facilites such as schools and hospitals, using earth moving machinery, and man power. It was a life changing experience, i saw things, and met people that have moved me, and we did alot of good over there, along with the American Navy, the Japanese and the German Navy. The people of Aceh and Nias are strong. They lost everything, including family, but are still able to press on. I was truely inspired when i was talking to kids who could speak english, the way they are full of life, and goodness, even after going though what they have. I wired up an electric fresh water pump in Nias to a generator, after the electricity was cut from the earth quake, and placed the pump in a clean freshwater creek. This fed seven villiages with fresh water. The people were so greatful, and decent. I was given a tiny piece of coral from their reef, for a necklace in appreciation. The guy said he and his brother wanted me to have it, and that God had sent us to help them, and this piece of coral would bring me good luck, and would remind me of them. I dont take it off now, because i do look at that little cirle of green coral, and it reminds me of the strength of mandkind, and goodness. Also, we were the Australian Ship that lost our helicopter with 11 people over there, two of which survived. This also added to the experience, that those people gave their lives helping others. The entire experience was an honour, and we knew that around the world people were doing all they could do to help also, volunteering themselves, and raising relief money.

While i was over there, i was very glad to be helping, but when the date came that i knew you were playing at the Enmore, i was really cut deep that i could not be there. My wife and her girlfriend went to see you, and were standing at the front of the stage, cheering for you, and i flattenned two mobile phone batteries, listenning to your entire show, over the satellite phone, and mate, you still brought tears to my eyes, and made my hair stand on end. i could really hear what a great time you were having, and you played a red hot show. My wife said that you kicked ass on Vai, as much as we both love his stuff. There is no other like you, and i dont think there can ever be another Satriani. So if you dont mind, please continue your amazing work, so that we have as much of your great work as we need, to last a lifetime, and to pass on to the future. I personally would like an acoustic album from you, when its time to settle down, and chill out- BB King style. for now, you are still a Rock God, and that Ibanez of yours would never forgive you for putting her down. I have an old JS 100, but will be upgrading to the JS 1200, with that nice lo pro. My other influences are anyone with talent- you have set the standard so im picky. I dont read music, not even tab, I play by ear and improvisation. Its more free. I play some Tommy Emmanuel- (he signed my Maton acoustic- you should try a Maton, Aussie made, they are like silk! Maton Messiah- beautiful.) Mr Vai- he's brilliant, Malmsteen, Garry Moore, Van Halen, Clapton, Hendrix, I love all of the 80's rockers. There is some good guiter coming out these days too, its very interesting times for music, anything goes. Quite like Creed and Pod also- for the guitar. anyway, i better shut up. Thanks again Joe!!! I believe in My dreams
ps, i met this guy Dejan, from Brisbane Australia in a guitar shop, he can play- he could have gone professional, but did not. his album can be listenned to on the site, though i heard him do alot more awsome stuff in the shop when i met him, his album is pretty tame, but cool, the guy could have gone places.
