Cuth, Keniko, Michelle and any others i may have inadvertently missed out

Many thanks for your good wishes, the operation seems to have gone well, but i have a few weeks of heavy physio to go yet and the shoulder is very sore. However, I can now do things I have been unable to do for months which is good. I am very much 'one handed' and it is surprising just how dependent you become on your 'good' side. At the risk of giving 'too much information' , i can once again complete the paperwork after a certain bodily function without squeaking like a four year old!

Apparently I was quite a sight in hospital, half sitting, high as a kite on morphine, listening to Joe on my wifes ipod through my bose earphones.

Bahduh, AussieRGman, Artanis

Obviously the fate of the ashes is still to be decided but it will certainly not be a 5-0 whitewash. I won't sat i told you so (but i did!)

Best wishes to all, especially to those affected in any way by the terrible events in the southern states.

Steve

Aerosmith reportedly will release a new live album, Rockin' the Joint, in the DualDisc format Oct. 25. The upcoming collection, which documents a January 2002 show at Las Vegas' Hard Rock Hotel, includes performances of "Draw the Line," "Walk This Way" and many other popular Aerosmith tunes. The DVD side of the disc will feature live footage and behind-the-scene clips. Meanwhile, the band is expected to hit the road again this winter.

Les Paul corrals famous friends for new album

LOS ANGELES (Billboard) - Talk about celebrating a birthday in style.

Les Paul, the inventor of multitrack recording and the solid-body electric guitar that bears his name, turned 90 this year amid an array of events.

On June 7, two days before his birthday, Capitol Records released a special edition of "Les Paul With Mary Ford: The Best of the Capitol Masters," featuring Paul's 1940s and 1950s radio hits recorded with his late former wife.

On June 19, an all-star tribute concert took place at New York's Carnegie Hall. Barnes & Noble is carrying a lavish, slipcased new book, "Les Paul: In His Own Words," from publisher and fan Russ Cochran. And Gibson Guitar will issue 12 new custom Les Paul models throughout the next year.

But the highlight of the year for Paul's admirers is his first album since 1978, "Les Paul & Friends: American Made World Played" (Capitol/EMI). The newly released star-studded project features new versions of classic rock and blues tracks performed by big-name vocalists and musicians, and features guitar riffs and trills crafted by Paul himself.

The mastermind behind "Les Paul & Friends," producer Bob Cutarella, says that he has been wanting to do a Paul tribute project for about 10 years.

"I thought it would be cool to have all these guys do their thing and show Les what they'd learned from him," Cutarella says.

Cutarella called music publishers to ask them to send over their catalogs and pored over countless selections. He also made phone call after phone call to prospective artists.

"I could have put together four Les Paul albums instead of one," Cutarella says. "Who do you choose, whose schedule is available, and will their label allow it? We got Jeff Beck first, and then everything came together."

Cutarella teamed with producer Fran Cathcart for the recording process, which took place primarily at Capitol Studios in Los Angeles.

Peter Frampton says he jumped at the chance to participate. "To be on a track with Les is a great thing to be able to say. They ran about five tracks past me, and I picked 'So Into You' (originally performed by Atlanta Rhythm Section). Everyone loves that track."

Kenny Wayne Shepherd teamed with Edgar Winter for "Rock & Roll Hoochie Koo" (by Rick Derringer). "We just started jamming," Shepherd says. "I was really honored to be part of a project with a living legend."

Paul's contributions were recorded later at his home in Mahwah, N.J. Though arthritis prevents him from playing "blaring, blazing solos," Cutarella says, Paul made important contributions.

"Les is a perfectionist," Cathcart observes. "He wanted to make sure his parts were fully mature, and he wanted his ideas clearly on the album."

Keith Richards, who participated on the Yardbirds track "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl" with Buddy Guy and Derringer, says, "We must all own up that without Les Paul, generations of flash little punks like us would be in jail or cleaning toilets. This man, by his genius, made the road that we still travel today."

Neal Schon, who is featured on the original song "I Wanna Know You" with vocalist Beth Hart, echoes the sentiment. "So many good guitar players nip stuff from him," he says. "I totally admire the man and love him as a human being."

He adds that he wanted to play a slow blues number for the tribute because "it's where I initially came from as a guitar player. We did just that. We picked a key, somewhat arranged where the vocals would be, played live one take, and that was it. It's very real."

I cannot afford one, so I'm wearing my garage-door opener.

anibur, hiya stranger! Nice to see you back here in the old neighborhood. lol! Hope your family is well.

As for Katrina's devastation, today's paper says they fear 10,000 deaths will come from this. There are so many dead bodies in the streets, in the houses, everywhere. Cops are committing suicide, and I'm sure many citizens have too. On the news this morning, one officer thought his wife and kids were dead. He couldn't bare the thought, and he shot himself. Turns out...his family was fine. The devastation is just sickening. A day hasn't passed where I can watch the news without crying. God Bless them all.

Chee-toes, my weekend went by way to fast. My headache went away when my neck went out. lol! That's finally starting to feel better too - now that the beautiful weekend is over and I have to go back to work. lol! Figgers! Went to a picnic yesterday, but laid off the beverages. The bees in my sisters neighborhood are all alcoholics. They were all up in my sisters batch of wine punch, so I wasn't. lol! She had the punch covered, but the bees were in all the cups that had punch in them. eeeuuuwww!

mari, I don't know what happened in my neck, but it hurt like hell. lol! It was all in my pecs & traps, and up into my neck. It happened before a few times. I think it's time to up my dose of Geritol. LOL! My son's first game is Thursday. I'm taking the night off work. It's an away game, and it's pretty damn far away! lol! It wouldn't suck so much if it wasn't also my daughter's "meet the teacher" night. Did I mention my husband is also on call that day? lol! It should be interesting to say they least.

Captain Steve, glad to hear your surgery went well. I had to laugh when I read that you were "one handed" also. At least I'm not the only one. I'm so right-handed it's not even funny. I catch myself holding everything in my right hand, while my left hand is available for door opening, child herding, or whatever? lol! I even had bursitis in my right shoulder when my kids were little. I would have my purse, diaper bag, and child all on my right side, and my left hand would be for holding on to my other child and opening doors. LOL! Hope your therapy goes well, and your "other" hand learns to do it's share. lol!

cube, I have to agree with the point in carson5150's post. I think the dude is a pole smoker. CrunchBull should change his name to AssMunch. Steve would never, ever talk that way about Joe to a anyone, yet a dillweed like him. I doubt the whole story ever happened. Ya know those stoners sometimes get stuck in a time warp. Maybe he's thinking it's still 1978?

michelle i dont beleive it. but , hey . each to his own.. i dont think vai would talk about joe like that.. also Vai was with FZ for a few years so i am not sure of his Views on drug use, but FZ did not tolerate it. even from the audience... if somebody was tripping at a FZ show, Frank would have them escorted out.

My opinion is that if either one were that big of a pothead, they would still be living with their parents. I'm sorry but your not going to get to where they are success-wise, and smoke an ounce a week.

Which just reminded me, there was this guy I went to high school with who had a hard rock band called "Kannabis"...lol...they never got any further than the drummers dad's garage...go figure..lol !

DCK: That was a funny post! I think if they were pot heads they would have a lot less material out. They'd be too busy doing nothing and saying "hey man" in a Tommy Chong drawl. Then again.....Joe did write a song called the mystical potato head groove thing hah! Just kidding Joe!

My hungry hungry hippos t-shirt arrived yesterday....sooooo happy with it.

DCK

I ordered my killswitch button today for £1.20 which is pretty good. I'll keep you informed on how the whole project is going when more is done to it lol. Fingers-crossed it goes off without any problems. I might take the little red plastic 'cap' off it and spray it either white or orange to go with the whole theme of the guitar....but I might just leave it red lol.

MARI- So sorry we missed your call- think you are right though, you miss off the "0" from the bit that starts "0208." Hope we get another chance to speak! Phrydom is probably right though about if you're dialling from a cell phone to hold the 0 down. Take care!

PHRYDOM- Shame you can't transfer OU courses over there, maybe that'll change though. - Also those bug stories made me laugh, I hate that when a git of an insect escapes its doom! :)

BADMAMAJAMA- Not sure if you post on here or if you are only around in chat, but I played Matt your track and he loved it too!

DEATHCUBE- Have just read the John5 interview again properly, thanks again for posting it! Do you know if he'll be touring the UK soon btw?

Hi to everyone out there, hope your day is ok! :)

SteeveT - the thing I'm wrestling with in the mixing is the rhythm guitar level and eq....

get it wrong and the orchestra is buried...

get it wrong the other way and the guitar vanishes into the mix and the power is lost....

also - too much top and it's fizzy, too little and the definition is gone....

really tough.....

Yoda - ah.. the tornado thing was around 2001 I think....
scary as fuck though... no question.....

the mixing is going ok.... slow and painful...
but once I crack the first song I'll be on a roll..
