Clarky, hey man, yeah I'll be around tomorrow. Looks like I'll be spending a lot of the day kicking stones 'cause everyvbody's gonna be busy! haha. Oh, I meant to say, happy birthday! Hope you had a cool day!

fizz450, yeah having some half-decent gear behind you does really help. The less work you have to do to compensate for problems, the more work you can put into your creativity - I firmly believe in getting the best gear you can possibly afford for whatever you're doing, whether it's music, photography, sport....whatever. If it's something you're really into it's worth investing!

anyway, what's good recording software? Well I get on really well with Cubase SX2, it's massively versatile and powerful. It is one of the three leading recording packages - the other two are Pro Tools and Logic. These three are the three you will find in most studios, and you'll often find a combination of two being used for different purposes.

Because Cubase is what I've been taught, it's what I favour, but I'm sure if I had Pro Tools I'd get on with that brilliantly.....it's supposed to be the best, but Cubase and Logic are both equally great.

An external sound card would be really beneficial. You could get a USB or Firewire soundcard to use with your laptop and it would give you a fully portable studio! I used to use a Laptop but now use a PC, but still have an external sound card. That's the really important bit though. if you want more info on external sound cards just shout!

edit:

Neil, cool, thanks for sharing the inside info on the pub! haha. I'm going to be with family again so I'm not sure what they'll want to do, but will see you all at some point anyway!

Also, yeah man, I sincerely hope the dude gets the H&K in the post, pronto! The anticipation is killing me! You should monitor ebay for H&K stuff....there's not a lot, but this Attax 100 head only cost me a hundred quid.....can you believe that?! There was only one other person bidding on it.....the guy should have put a reserve on! hehe.

I'll let you know how it turns out, I'm hoping it'll have some of the fatness of it's big brother TriAmp.....I've read plenty of good reviews!

962 - Right now my DSL100 does everything I need it to do perfectly well, but the H7K stuff is really nice. The TriAmp is a phenominal machine. I was looking into getting an H&K amp a few years back, when my windfall was due, but I bought my bloomin' gorgeous RG570 Ltd. instead. No regerets!

Regarding studio gear, I'm a Logic man myself (sorry for 'eavesdropping'... lol). I can't get used to Cubase, no matter how hard I try, for whatever reason. My brother swears by it though, and he gets some great results form it. I use a PC at the moment too, but I might just be getting my hands on a second hand Apple G4 some time soon, which would be sweet!!! Macs are much better for recording purposes I reckon. But my next purchase, apart from some kind of semi-hollow jazz box, is going to be a decent audio interface. Then I need to upgrade my monitors. Any recommendations?

Master Yoda: If you like Makie Moniters (which are tops in my books) you should look at the Bheringer moniters....they are basically near duplicates of the makie design at a fraction of the cost. The Makies are $1000 per speaker! As far as an interface, I'm not sure to what to tell you. I have an Aardvark Q10 that does 8 simultaneous inputs, is 24bit 96khz, has phantom powering, and two tracks that can be switched to have a great bass direct preamp sound at the push of a button. Is sounds absolutley organic too, not the least bit offensively digital. The only thing is they went out of business. What you need to do is ask around and find a similar product (must be 24bit 96khz if you're going to spend the cash on something good) that will cooperate well with your hardware and software. That's the main thing. When I got my PC workstation, I was going to get a similar MOTU unit, but all of the forums I looked at, and the tech wizes that I talked to said the MOTU didn't play nice with Vegas, Qubase, Cakewalk etc etc in a PC. You have to remember, that the interface replaces the sound card that comes with the computer, so interface has to tell the stock sound card in the computer "I'm the sound card, now you just bequiet and stand over there." Sometimes that causes issues if you get the wrong interface. Anyway, that's my advice. If you're tinking of recording direct from the amp (no mic or speaker cab) I can give you some advice on gear for tht as well. Hope this helps.

CLarky: That comment was the funniest thing I've heard in a while. So, now that you're well into your life, and you've been playing for probably close to 30 years, do your hands have trouble moving like they did in their younger days? Just curious, it's a constant paranoia of mine that aging my take my chops haah!

Zen most Gallagherophiles are quite unhappy with "Big Guns" both the song selection and the sound quality!! Strange coz Rory's bro Donal was in charge of the whole shebang!!!

YJM was/is priceless. Best quote " Back in the early '70ies every other rock guitarist was a pimple on Ritchie's (Blackmore) ass!!!! LMAO

Good Morning Satchland..... How are The Mighty Righty Wipers Today?

Paper work has been goin' great for me so far with narly a tear. Ahhhhh ! ! ! Yes.......

How do you post an attachment? I got an email from a bassist this morning. You have to see this. It's amazing. A bassist named Chris Engal is playing Purple Haze on bass with tapping like Stu Hamm's Linus and Lucy Peanuts theme.

maybe I should call you tomorrow lunch time...

I'm going to make a guess that I'll be available for beer around 4 to 5 ish...

but it may well be earlier depending upon how things pan out..

OCPS - I am quicker, most agile and more durable a player than I've ever been in my life.....

take a look at a concert pianist / violinist etc...... all well into their 50's and 60's

why should it be any different for a shredder??

I ordered the 1st Liquid Tensions Exp. CD like a week or two ago, finally came yesterday... Can't stop listening to it. Totally amazing. Anyone hear listen to, have, or heard any of LTE songs or CD's? I also ordered John Petrucci's Rock Disc. DVD because I've been wanting to work on my sweep picking and improving speed and accuracy (which are covered very well on the DVD). I'm no new-comer to guitar at all, I've been playing for about 13 years, maybe more, not sure anymore (I'm 18), lot's of good stuff on the DVD, I wish I would have gotten it a while ago. If you are a new-comer to guitar and are looking to really improve, buy JP's rock disc. DVD, he covers pretty much everything you'd want to know to improve your playing and technique.

G3 October 25 with JP!
