U2 will be the only guests on Thursday's episode of NBC's Late Night With Conan O'Brien.
The Irish rockers are expected to perform several songs during the appearance. Meanwhile, U2 frontman Bono ranks among the top contenders for this year's Nobel Peace Prize, according to some U.K. bookmakers. The winner of the prestigious award will be announced Friday in Oslo, Norway.

Doctor sued for sex treatment for back pain
SEATTLE (Reuters) - An Oregon woman whose doctor convinced her that he could cure her lower back pain by having sex with her is suing him and his medical clinic for $4 million, according to legal documents obtained on Monday.
The doctor, Randall Smith, who was 50 at the time, was stripped of his license and sent to jail for 60 days last year for charging the state's Oregon Health Plan $5,000 for his 45-minute "treatments" involving the woman.
"Dr. Smith's medical treatment included intercourse in which he told plaintiff was needed to help alleviate plaintiff's lower back and lower extremity pain," the former patient said in the lawsuit.
The lawsuit, which charges battery, negligence and intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress, was filed on Friday in Multnomah County court.
"We never comment on lawsuits," said a spokesman for the Adventist Medical Group clinic in Gresham, Oregon where Smith worked. Smith could not be located for comment.
Though he pleaded guilty to submitting false health care claims, a felony, Smith maintained the sex with the 47-year-old woman was consensual.

Clocks in Heaven
A man died and went to heaven. As he stood in front of St. Peter at the
Pearly Gates, he saw a huge wall of clocks behind him. He asked, "What
are all those clocks for?"
St. Peter answered, "Those are Lie-Clocks. Everyone on earth has a
Lie-Clock. Every time you lie, the hands on your clock will move."
"Oh," said the man, "whose clock is that?"
"That's Mother Teresa's. The hands have never moved, indicating that
she
never told a lie."
"Incredible," said the man. "And whose clock is that one?"
St. Peter responded, "That's Abraham Lincoln's clock. The hands have
moved twice, telling us that Abe told only two lies in his entire
life."
"Where's President Bush's clock?" asked the man. "Bush's clock is in
Jesus' office. He's using it as a ceiling fan."

Ocs, thanks for the advice. I will try those settings on my JSX tomorrow. I don't have a cabinet though. It is the 212 combo. Also, what do you T2J's recommend running through this amp for effects? Right now I have got a Boss GT-6 and an old Ibanez PT-5 pedal board? Are individual stomp boxes the way to go? What would give me the awesome tone of Joe, John Petrucci, Morse, etc. Obviously it is in the fingering and technique. My technique and fingering are fine. I just need some fine tuning in the effects department. I have read a ton of these posts about people spending a lot of time playing Joe's tunes. That is great for awhile but there is nothing like developing your own style and method. I used to play just about every tune of Joe's from Surfing with the alien through Crystal Planet and then I just was tired of being a clone. I had to take what I have learned and develop my own signature licks and sounds etc. I know there was a question about appreggios and someone gave some great advice. I forget who it was but my take on appreggios is that you just have to experiment in different scales on adjacent strings. The possiblities are endless. Three, and four note appreggios up and down are fun. You can play major, minor, modal, exotic, add major minor 5ths, 3rds, 9ths, etc. Experimenting is the key. Joe, come to Guam....Everclear just performed here a couple of hours ago and loved the fans here. Please come to Guam....You can use my JSX 212 combo on stage lol. Does anyone else love John Petrucci's suspended animation as much as I do? Has anyone checked out Joe's nascar music yet? I love this site!!! Good jamming to all!

Mark (bahduh) hi there!! Chris and I are fine, we just had a great weekend of travel, music and a lil JOE!! :) He's doing well in school (YAY!!) and says to tell you hello!!
Zinc Master.....oh man, I'm sooooooo bad at remembering songs...I get so swept away by the music at the time that I forget to remember what was played, but.....I believe the final jam song, which was the second song Joe played on, was Listen to the Music...I think that's right because I remember singing at the TOP of my lungs to it, along with everyone else there!! The Doobies also played (I think) Rockin Down the Highway, Takin It to the Streets, and either Black Water or Jesus is Just Alright With Me...and so Joe would have played one of those as well....geez, not only was I singing and dancing, I was trying to take a bazillion pictures around all the flailing arms and heads!!
ACK!! Help Joe!!! My brain!! Which 2 songs did you jump on stage for?? :)
And to all who said thanks, yer very welcome..... :))

very interesting and tempting.
It would depend on what happens this and early next week to see if I can get away and see either one of those shows.
Maybe we should post early next week and touch base.

SHredGUy: To get the sounds of Petrucci and Morse, etc etc, I would say the FX will do little for you. THe best way to get there is to tweak the knobs on the JSX. Also, Petrucci uses the neck pickup for at least half of his soloing, and almost everyfast run/ sweep he does uses the neck pickup. If you have a Dimarzio Air Norton in the neck on your guitar, that will get you more in the ball park (JP's old neck pu in the Ibanez guitars). Anyway, that setting I gave you gives me an all around nice smooth sound that I can use as a jumping off point to approximate alot of styles just by changing my pickup settings and varying my style and technique. Hope that helps. As far as cool FX go though, The Boss DD6 is an excellent delay. I have that, a Boss Chorus Ensamble, a Digitech whammy, Morley Bad Horsie and Little Aligator, Dunlop Rotovibe, Fulltone Ultimate Octave and a DS1 (I don't really need this, I just stick it on the ol' pedal board to augment the Fulltone sometimes). This kind of a setup gets me almost any FX tone I need. I woud say that instead of geting a big rack unit(which cost a bunch and has a bunch of things you don't need) get each individual effect you want as a pedal. Try to get pedals with true bypasses, and if you can't get those, try the pedals out and get ones that minimally color the tone. Get very short high quality cables to go between the pedals (I use Dimarzio 6inch pedal connectors). Using all of thsoe pedals, my tone is virtually non- affected my having all of those pedals connected. Just remember to put Delay, Modulation FX (FLange, Phaser, CHorus) and the whammy pedal (or other harmonizers) in the FX loop. This lets the amp run cleaner on the front end. Put distortions, Fuzzes, pedals like the rotovibe (exception to the modulation pedal rule), wah wah, and volume pedal in front of the amp.

Hi Joe,
i understand that u have used Conford amps in the past especially in some of your early recordings.
two questions :
1) What did you think of them(professionally and technically),
2) Why did you not continue to use and develop similar to your collabration with peavey/JSX
I thank you in advance for your kind and quick reply to my post.
Regards,
Couros
