Guitar meister: I missed the Gigantour too, due to arrangement problems, but maybe some other time...and yeah it's a great DVD, I'm taking michelle's advice and I'm enjoying it, and I bought that DVD for a warm up to the G3 DVD... later

Oh my god, I can't believe how f*ck*ng stressy vai.com messageboard members are! What a bunch of assholes. Ok I know some of them are cool, but some are such self-centered retards, it's crazy....T2J is so much more groovy and sociable!

Delfino, aww thanks man, I appreciate that. In ayear or two I might take the ideas I'm most happy with to a real studio and re-record them as a demo, so I'll be sure to get a copy to you and everyone else who's said they'd have one! haha.

Also, dude I think it's great to see your comment on Robert Fripp's influence on you, and how much you got out of his G3 contribution. After all the negativity surrounding his involvement, it's great to see that somebody else though he was ace! I'd like to hear that 2-Disc special of soundscape when you get it done! Also, I reckon you could find yourself, in a few years time, in a pretty strong position for integrating epic soundtracks into epic videogames or movies, just like Vai did with Halo 2.....I look forward to following your progress!

DCK, sweet man, thanks for checking out the new track, and for your kind comments!
OCPS470, thanks loads for your feedback.....I'm sure you'll agree that it's easier to judge somebody elses progress than it is your own, so I really appreciate your comments! Glad to hear all you peeps are diggin the tune, I'm quite surprised at the response!

Since my last two tracks I've realised how average my T2JCD2 submission was, and although I want to rewrite half of it and do it again, am quite happy that it didn't get selected!

Stevee T, so which of the two Chrome JS's is better to play, and which sounds better? I had a play with a JS10th in a shop in London and was blown away by it's sound, it had so much character.....I wish I could have afforded it!
gotta have joe, si, bueno, gracias. Y tu, que tal seniorita? Ok I was really scraping out the barrel there, I can barely remember any Spanish, so I hope that made sense! haha
LucySorets, yeah that'd be great if you come over to London next summer (not that I would choose to come here on vacation, hahaha)! I'm sure somebody interesting will be playing a gig here next summer though!

Also, awesome, thanks for putting "Silver Rain" on your playlist! That's so cool! Muchas gracias! now, should I adress you as a seniora or seniorita? I'm not sure what sort of age it becomes "correct" to address a lady as a seniora! Sorry, I know I've spelled "seniora" wrong, but I can't easily write an "n" with a cadilla over the top! haha

962...they're both tremendous instruments...the JS10th has a very distinct sustained sound & feels very formidable in yer lap...the JS2 PRM is lighter with a slightly hollow sound which is warm, but bright...they make a great combination...if any one is interested & can afford the 4500.00 US...I know where one JS2 PRM can be purchased new from a store here in the US...

962: haha! Amen brother! It's very difficult to tell progress on an instrument. Especially if you're like me.... I always feel good about learning new things, but then I go right back into feeling like I'm not doing enough, or that my abilities are severely limited. Don't get me wrong, I love playing and get a ton of joy out of it, it's just sometimes the never ending quest to know more and be better can blind you from enjoying your accomplishment.

Hi this is chris, i was wondeering if anyone could help me figuring out my new amp. Its a ibanez dragone limited edition tone blaster half stack. Ive got the clean channel EQ Figured out, but still struggle to figure out the overdrive (distorion channel's EQ). It is a special eq, not just a 1-10 Knob but, a db/ Hz Type of deal. Here are the levels, bass= 12 DB/100 Hertz Mid= -20 Db/ 600 hz/ 1 khz Treble= plus and minus sign, 12 Db/ 4 khz Presence= - 12 db, 15 Khz

Any help, or a link to a site providing info to this would be much appreciated.. Thanks

punkdude75 - I know someone who went to the Gigantour show when it was in my area, he said he was somewhat disappointed, mainly because of where it was, he said the sound was pretty bad. It wasn't in a small place at all, but the place is just bad to have bands play. But, are you a big fan of Dream Theater? If so, you should try and find the other DT DVD's - 5 Years in a LiveTime (it's a double disc, 1st DVD is of the Images and Words tour, 2nd is a bunch of footage from Mike Portnoy's personal collection/"archives") - and then the other DVD is the Scenes from New York. Dream Theater is just the best band, definitly get the other two if you like Live at Budokan. There is one of the sickest solos on the Scenes from NY DVD, i forget which song it was, but Petrucci and Rudess both play this insanely fast solo in unison (then harmonize the end of it), and then go for it a 2nd time. Brilliant! Then, if you watch the DVD with the commentary Petrucci noticed that he messed up in one part (pretty much unoticeable too, so unoticeable that if he didn't say it nobody would have known!) G3 with Petrucci coming up! Can't wait!

DCK: I've only heard Vai, and one guy play them at Jemfest, and even with the average solid player it sounded great! I've never gotten a chance to try them though, and I haven't had good luck having amps shipped to me, so I probably never will. I've heard bad things about the quality being the opposite of "built like a tank." Mind you, I saw those comments on the Carvin forum by Legacy owners. In particular they thought the transformers are undersized and the grid screen resistors are of poor quality. However, they all like the tone...they just don't seem to trust it as a gigable amp you can always count on and not worry about. For $400 though, I'd say go for it. I'll tell you though, that when dialed in, the JSX crunch channel (to me atleast) sounds an aweful lot like the Legacy, if it had better note definition.

dck you play great. gear has nothing to do with it, as i'm sure you know that i know. you're original, very capable, and a helluva nice guy. there's no better recipe for a great guitarist, IMHO.

if you disagree, or feel uncomfortable, think of who else could be described in that way...

EDIT: 962 yes, it can be a little bitchy over there, personally I've found that the moderators are a tad over-zealous... for example the Crowley (and related topics)-isms in SV's work, interviews, etc is pretty blatant, but I would bet you a pint of whatever you want that talking about such things (even *asking* a question) will bring down the dark clouds of whatever upon you there...

I had more to say, but decided not to... I can't be arsed LMAO!!!!!!!!!!

The first guitar-playing-and-sometimes-singing male diva???? Maybe that sums it up best ;-) heh heh

962 haha if you think the vai forums are bad, try reading the petrucci forums.....i have never seen such assholes in my life, all they do over there is bash JP for missing a note or blinking wrong or downpicking when he should have uppicked and so on. its no wonder why JP doesnt go on his boards anymore, i hate going there now....its really really sad! i hope this site never turns into anything like that!

Brother Al, I wish I was talking about just the f-spacing thread! haha, it's almost every damn thing I post, rather than somebody giving the sort of response that they would here if they disagreed with something I'd said, they give all this "oh that's complete bullshit", "oh are you a f*ck*n retard?" kind of thing....it's so HOSTILE!!!! By the way, I noticed you remained neutral, so thanks!

Stevee T, if I had the spare mular I would, but I would probably go for the 10th....I'm not quite sure why, there's just something about it! I'd love to try the new one though!
OCPS470, haha, yeah I sometimes do need a jolt up the ass to rmind myself how much I have learned, and also to remind myself to try and make music from an artistic point of view rather than technical! It's the old "write with your head, not with your hands" thing.....that's what I'm trying to do more of now!
DCK, you have an opportunity to get a Legacy for 400 dollars? Dude that is nothing.....you must do it! Honestly, even if you have to retube it like I did, it is so worth it. I haven't really heard another amp like it, you can get a massive variety of tones from it!

Also, haha, yeah I always think of that when I play my bass - "oh yeah, mark played this a few weeks before I did in a shop in Canada!". It's crazy man, but cool! Actually the electronics got a bit sick recently, but I think they just need replacing. I got a second opinion and we thought one of the pickups needed rewinding, but I'm not sure now, I think it just needs the other electronic parts just replacing! It's fine right now though, and very useful!

Also, go easy on yourself dude......you've got a load of cool friends here and I'm sure we'd all agree that you're a cracking musician! I know the sort of rut your in though......just try and analyse what aspects of playign you take from different influences and then build on it! And if you haven't bought any new CD's in a while, do that....fresh inspiration is the best aid!

PhryDom, haha, yeah I have to agree with those observations! It just takes me a while to adjust, what with everybody here on T2J being so sociable and having so much character, Vai's hordes of web-demons are about as fun as a drinks party at Death's house......you can pretend you're getting on fine for as long as you like but you know, at some point, it's all going to turn sour! hahaha
TheBob, hahaha, that's f*ck*ng hilarious man....let me just pick myself up off the floor! I mean, it's sad, but it's also awkwardly funny.....WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?!!!! I've never been to the Petrucci forums, and I don't get the impression I'm missing much!

I can't see that ever happening here.....last time there was a bit of civil unrest, Joe himself stepped in and said "cool it folks" and everyone did. Joe commands a certain easy-going-ness that you generally find among his fans.

Even outside the forums - last year I met with some other T2Jers before a G3 gig and everyone got on fine and it was cool to meet everyone. A few months prior I had met with a bunch of vai.com 'board members prior to one of Vai's shows in Holland, and it was all really uncomfortable and awkward!

after all that, hope you folks all have a groovy weekend! haha
