Rowashburn...does a store near you have both to try... maybe Joe's Peavey head too? I had a JCM800 was too thin for me...I think Joe's or a 5150 might do....IMHO...Soldano...is sweeter from my experience, and maybe not edgy enough...best to try them yourself...of course....

Remember that I'm going to get a HandMade amp...

...check it out here: http://geocities.yahoo.com.br/leandromarcoamp/

( the Buzz amp is the clone of Soldano Slo100 and the Sewer amp is the JCM800 clone. The Military is a Hiwatt clone )

I don't have how to try the amps in store nearby...

Rowashburn

a mate of mine has a jcm 900 (the next model up from what ur thinking of ), its got a huge sound even at number 3 on the dial, id love one, but the price tag is a killer

That's why I'm getting a HandMade amp...much cheaper!!!

...and I'm not really interested in a JCM900...need an all tube amp.

death cube k

Rowashburn soldano's are the shit! they are the coolest amps. but the slo100 is well over $4000 . the marshall jcm800's are pretty cool , but try the dsl100 or dsl50 . they sound great

Well...so you think the soldano is the best choice?!?!

The question is between the Soldano Slo100 and the Marshall JCM800. Which one you recomend?!?!?!?!

OCPS470

RoWashburn: I'm telling you this as a guy that is a Joe fan, but is generally opposed to buying signature gear. You'll like the JSX. I bought one because modern Marshalls couldn't get smooth enough, and don't sustain anymore like the old ones do. The JSX has I would say modded Marshall JCM800 tone on the Crunch channel....if you dial it in right you can make it very smooth and liquid, or crunchy and ACDC in tone. The clean channel is very similar to a fender twin with more chime to it...and the ultra channel can get super ridiculously saturated. I'm very happy with it...although I'm sure the Soldanos are killer in their own right, they're just super expensive. Email me, and I'll give you some settings to use if you go to try out the JSX. It uses active EQ on the drive channels, so it can be made to sound horrible if you set it up like you would expect to set up a Marshall or something classic like that.

As far as using a ds1 to boost or as the main drive into a tube amp....I'm just against that, because I used to do that into a fender tube combo, and I never got a pure sustaining sound out of it. I would always have the sound of the dist pedal hitting the preamp of the fender and the 2 arguing with each other. In other words, sustained notes would tail off into a weird overtone low end sound.....wheras a real tube drive channel (JSX) tails off in to subtle musical feedback as the note dies away. I never got that using a dist pedal

Well...as I said...I'm getting an HandMade amp...perfect clone, much cheaper, and I can't afford to buy a JSX.

So tell me: Soldano Slo100 or Marshall JCM800???

...about the DS-1...

...SO HOW IN THE NAME OF GOD JOE GETS THAT SOUND?!??

...before the JSX, joe used the Marshall's clean channel only, using the DS-1 as main distortion...and it just sound great!!!

...one told once, that his DS-1 has a switch that changes the integrated circuit in the pedal...it can sound like the stock or Mod...

...come on, come on...any more explanations, sugestions????

...let's share knowledgement!!!!!!!!!!!

Baby Bear goes downstairs and sits in his small chair at the table, he looks into his small bowl. It is empty. "Who's been eating my porridge?!!" he squeaks.

Papa Bear arrives at the big table and sits in his big chair. He looks into his big bowl, and it is also empty. "Who's been eating my Porridge?!!" he roars.

Momma Bear puts her head through the serving hatch from the kitchen and yells, "How many times do we have to go through this with you idiots? It was Momma Bear who got up first, it was Momma Bear who woke everyone in the house, it was Momma Bear who made the coffee, it was Momma Bear who unloaded the dishwasher from last night, and put everything away, it was Momma Bear who went out in the cold early morning air to fetch the newspaper, it was Momma Bear who set the damn table, it was Momma Bear who put the friggin cat out, cleaned the litter box, and filled the cat's water and food dish, and, now that you've decided to drag your sorry bear-asses downstairs, and grace Momma Bear's kitchen with your grumpy presence, listen good, cause I'm only going to say this one more time.

"I HAVEN'T MADE THE DAMN PORRIDGE YET !!"

Rowashburn: I suppose that maybe the Marshall 6100 is more of a perfect fit with the DS1 than the fender is. I do understand that at some point Vai was using a Keeley modded DS1 and sent one to Joe, but that Joe prefers the stock Japanese DS1 from the 80's. As far as getting Joe's tone, if you really want to do that.....you probably need to start by getting every piece of gear in his signal chain (guitar, pickups, amp, etc etc). Then you need to study where he picks the guitar, what type of pick, and how he attacks etc etc. All of this can be really futile though, because you will still sound more like You than Joe, because you don't have Joe's hands or mind etc etc. This isn't a bad thing btw. For example, I go for a very smooth tone, but most of it is how I use the pick....when I hand the guitar to someone else it usually sounds rough or harsh. It's all in the hands.

Viruses Exploit Sony CD Copy-Protection

SAN JOSE, Calif. - A controversial copy-protection program that automatically installs when some Sony BMG audio CDs are played on personal computers is now being exploited by malicious software that takes advantage of the antipiracy technology's ability to hide files.

The Trojan horse programs — three have so far been identified by antivirus companies — are named so as to trigger the cloaking feature of Sony's XCP2 antipiracy technology. By piggybacking on that function, the malicious programs can enter undetected, security experts said Thursday.

"This could be the advanced guard," said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at the security firm Sophos. "We wouldn't be surprised at all if we saw more malware that exploits what Sony has introduced."

The copy protection program is included on about 20 popular music titles, including releases by Van Zant and The Bad Plus, and disclosure of its existence has raised the ire of many in the computing community, who consider it to constitute spyware.

Sony BMG Music Entertainment and the company that developed the software, First 4 Internet, have claimed that the technology poses no security threat. Still, Sony posted a patch last week that uncloaks files hidden by the software.

On Thursday, Sony released a statement "deeply regretting any disruption that this may have caused." It also said it was working with Symantec and other firms to ensure any content-protection technology "continues to be safe."

Neither Sony spokesman John McKay nor First 4 Internet CEO Mathew Gilliat-Smith returned messages seeking additional comment.

Windows expert Mark Russinovich discovered the hidden copy-protection technology on Oct. 31 and posted his findings on his Web log. He noted that the license agreement that pops up said a small program would be installed, but it did not specify it would be hidden.

Manual attempts to remove the software can disable the PC's CD drive. Sony offers an uninstallation program, but consumers must request it by filling out two forms on the Internet.

"What they did was not intentionally malicious," Cluley said. "If anything, it was slightly inept."

The copy-protection software, which Sony says is a necessary "speed bump" to limit how many times a CD is copied, only works on Windows-based PCs. Users of Macintosh and Linux computers are not restricted.

The viruses also only target Windows-based machines.

The infection opens up a backdoor, which could be used to steal personal information, launch attacks on other computers and send spam, antivirus companies said.

Sony also is facing legal headaches. On Nov. 1, Alexander Guevara filed suit in Los Angeles County Superior Court seeking class action staus. He claims Sony's actions constituted fraud, false advertising, trespass and violated state and federal laws barring malware and computer tampering.

His attorney, Alan Himmelfarb, did not immediately return calls seeking comment.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation, an online civil liberty group, said it is hearing from people who have run into problems with the copy protection software. It is considering filing its own lawsuit, said EFF staff attorney Jason Schultz.

"You can't uninstall it, you can't find it, and it's vastly more invasive in terms of privacy and personal property than any other (digital rights management) program to date," he said.

Zen - got your mail bro... thanx..... I'm giving it great thought...

SteveT - I was considering putting Space Time on the 2nd album for a while..
but now I'm not so sure...
Shredz is almost done now..... I need to fix some minor things, mix the Raft and archive the song files...
once all that is done I need to make the arrangements for the artwork with Maria, get the album mastered and start sorting out the band....

this means that soon I'll have time to start writing for the next album...
first though I want to work on it's theme and concepts...
so what I come up with will determine if Space Time makes it on the next album because it may not fit the theme....
Space Time was originally writen as a one-off stand alone track.... so I have a few things to consider....

one thing for sure though... I am soon to be in the process of redefining my studio riffing tone....
I'll be conducting a number of experiments...
so the rhythm parts to Space Time will be re-recorded..
I am going to use this song as the test bed because the opening riff is dense enough to really put to test the clarity and definition I'm looking for.....

glad you liked the track....
I'm actually quite fond of it too.....

mikey - hahaaaaa...... somethings never change....

you were always fixing my links.... lmao.....

next week.. time permitting etc etc... I'll try to call....
if I can't I'll mail you for sure..
