gotta have Joe: One might be how the smart of a hacker there ever can be... but in this forum there's always The webmaster; mr. Luini. So even if anyone could make a false message as mr. Satriani, it would be deleted and corrected pretty fast!

...Go tell your father...and his friend!

...and tell also, that you heard this from an adult.

Ovation1: Hi, Mikey! I missed mr. Vai's gig here in Finland...once again. We'll see if I'll ever see him live with his own band...damn!

Zenfish (and all you T2J-symphony creators): Damn! ... Your idea is simply beautiful. I've been pondering for a couple of days if there could be a way for me to participate..............but no. During my three decades lasting journey in music (mostly rock, but only good music, which is not a subjective consept) I have composed several pieces of art which I'd love to share with for example someone like you people in this community......but them are only in my head and fingers...and I don't have the equipment to record...or proper knowledge of making notes or tablatures (besides they come from deep down of my soul and I've practised and put the finishing touches to them for years, so I'm not sure if even Joe the Man himself or anyone else could play them like I do; like they are supposed to! <= anybody disagreeing...don't! I'm sure that Joe as an artist doesn't question that.) ...and even if I'd have the time (which I don't at the moment) I don't want to be a delay for your project saying: "Wait for a couple of months while I solve my problems."

One day, people...... one sunny day I'll do it! Until that, I wish you a productive and rewarding journey!

SUP JOE!

Hey anyone that answers for Joe, Joe, or anyone that knows the answer to the question....

What is Joe's practice routine? Or at least what USED to be if he has transcended the need to practice. I would really like to know. I have recently plateaued and need some good practice techniques and such. Thanks!

AussieGman- Well done for caring for your parents, there are so many who don't even care about there parents. it must be hard if your not appreciated (know the feeling there, no matter how hard you try it's always wrong eh) Why not try writing your feelings about it down in a nice letter to them, explain how you feel, how they make you feel, that a little appreciation would go a long way - put the right way, it might make them stop and think about what you actually do for them? Try and let stuff that is not your arguement wash over you, you've got enough on your mind. Best to get yourself over the married woman though, just think how much guilt and bad feeling you would have if you split up a marriage? You really would be playin the blues!

CLARKY - clarky, clarky you should be playin and sellin outWembly stadium oooooorrrrrrsum! Space Time and Curvature Exotic - Fantastic finger-work - love the complexity and versitility. Our Blood in their Hands - There is so much passion and feelin in that! You can really feel what you said in the write up - Mutha of Muthas - done in a hotel roome eh (i'm just gonna have to move to Canada)? Did you trash it and have to get out quick before you could finish the song, just gettin into it and it stopped ooohhh. Best till last - PRM Boxter - what can I say -- if that's got warts in it then warts are beautiful things in music, scratching the surface? If that's scratching the surface then give my a full on gash to the core!!!! I have listened to that so many times now I've amost lost the pattern on the plate, figuratively speaking. you should be up there showing Joe how it's done, Ok maybe that's a bit over the top, but at least playing up there with him. You can tell can't you? I am BLOWN AWAY BY YOUR OOOOORRRRSUM TALENT. What's this about a second album? Does this mean I could get an album of your stuff somewhere - pleeeease tell me where?????

Hugs and Hello to all you others.

Thanks so much to SteveeT and 962 - Two more fantastic, talented people!!!

Good Afternoon Satchland.....

Pink Malloy...... I don't know of Joe's practice schedule or if he has one with his busy day to day schedule that he keeps. I do know that he practiced what Joe called the boring stuff before he went to school so when returned he'd be ready to practice the stuff that he liked. If you're looking for something to jump start your practicing I'd suggest picking up a copy of Guitar One's October issue on Monster Chops. There's over a 100 picking excercises designed to increase your picking technique and to develope left and right hand coordination. It has helped me tremendously. The first time practicing from this mag after about 4 hrs. I could feel the difference right away. I haven't put the mag down since Oct. and strongly suggest checkin' it out. It works for me and it should for anyone else. Let me know if you pick up a copy. I'm curious to see your progress or at least if you think it will help you. Good luck.....

Edit..... I see you're from Battle Creek. When I was a kid I went to the Kellog's cereal plant. That was a great and I remember it like it was yesterday. Wasn't Gibson in Battle Creek for a while?

OCPS470 Rowashburn: I suppose that maybe the Marshall 6100 is more of a perfect fit with the DS1 than the fender is. I do understand that at some point Vai was using a Keeley modded DS1 and sent one to Joe, but that Joe prefers the stock Japanese DS1 from the 80's. As far as getting Joe's tone, if you really want to do that.....you probably need to start by getting every piece of gear in his signal chain (guitar, pickups, amp, etc etc). Then you need to study where he picks the guitar, what type of pick, and how he attacks etc etc. All of this can be really futile though, because you will still sound more like You than Joe, because you don't have Joe's hands or mind etc etc. This isn't a bad thing btw. For example, I go for a very smooth tone, but most of it is how I use the pick....when I hand the guitar to someone else it usually sounds rough or harsh. It's all in the hands.

I Know, I know...and I'm not trying to get Joe's tone...far from it!!!!

...nobody sounds like nobody, I'm tryng to get MY tone, I'm just using his tone as a inspiration...just like Steve Vai's tone , and Eddie Van Halen's tone.

...These three are awesome!!! And they use diferents sets...but both Steve Vai and Joe use the DS-1 Boss...so I'm trying to understand how they use it. I know Steve Vai use it as a boost for the amp, but Joe gets so much distortion just by using it as main distortion...of course his hands have the bigger part in it, but still makes me thinking...

...well, I suppose the Soldano Slo100 is the best choice for me...

...I just don't want to have so much distortion...but also don't want it to get to weak...

Don't want to play Pantera, but don't want to be able to play only AC/DC...

Satriella, re. your question - when I was a kid I was an air cadet (awwww. hehe) and really wanted to fly planes. My granny used to refer to me as "the airman" and it kinda stuck with me for a while and I used it when I first signed up to yahoo 8 years ago or however long ago it was!

The siro part is stolen from Vai - it's his middle name - 'cause, at the time, I was a Vai loyalist and thoght it was a cool name too. I would love to change my e-mail address, but I've had the same one for so long it would take me for ever to distribute revised contact details! Oh well :-P

Thanks for your continuing support and encouragement. Did you get one of Steve T's CD's? If not, get one, it's definitely worth having!

...Gotta Have Joe, it's really me, here in Vancouver, recording and posting when time allows...Zinc Master, we are on top of this, but it really sucks...I don't know how this can ever be resolved... If labels and artists feel their investment of time, money, art and talent will always be taken from them without compensation then they will simply stop producing...If consumers continue to feel overcharged, and put out by changing formats, then they will keep taking music without paying fo it... For now we drift somewhere in the middle, but it's hurting young musicians the most... Joe

Hiya Joe...gotta say, I believe strongly in supporting the artist by buying their material from licensed vendors. I have friends ask me all the time if they can make copies of my cd's and I don't allow it. I tell them to please buy their own so the artist will hopefully keep putting out new material.

Good to see you posting again Joe...always a pleasure. :)

This is Chris, just letting people know what I'm up to if anyone cares, working on 4 songs I am writing for my senior project, that I am very happy with so far. Have a good day everyone in satchland.

Hey Joe, when you're composing on the guitar, do you sit down and write everything down, or do you record yourself, or do you just remember everything? Thanks for everything Joe, You are the greatest, see ya on tour next spring. thanks, chris

Joe...it's so common place for someone to borrow a CD & copy it...then their friends copy it, and so on...certainly not fair to the artist...when they're trying to survive, and make more music as a way of living...Greg Howe didn't even have a copy of the Jordan Rudess CD you both worked on so instead of giving him mine to copy...I gave him mine to keep...crazy I know, but true!

guitarmeister2005...looks like a nice bunch o'gear ya got there...when can we hear your tunes?

Speaking of copying music for free...you're all free to download mine if you want to...Remix - Chromeboy And The Lava Lamp

Harvest Ice another new song using the Chromeboy...hope you enjoy it...

Rowashburn: I got pretty solid distortion out of the ds1 into a totally clean fender wich has 6L6 power tubes.....it's my understanding that the Marshall 6100 uses 5881 tubes (6L6 variant) as opposed to the EL34's that most Marshalls use. I think this makes a big difference. When I run the DS1 into my JSX's clean channel (EL34's in amp) it seems to have less distortion and sustain than it does through 6L6 amps. Maybe that's it. Also, if you check out Joe's behind the scenes gear section of the LISF dvd, when he strums the Chromeboy through the clean channel of the 6100, it seems to have some drive already.....maybe that's why the ds1 seems so solid through that amp. Maybe his clean is only clean through that amp because he backs way off on his picking attack etc..... I've got some clips of the JSX versus the DS1 and other dist pedals through a clean amp...click on my name and email me, and I'll send you the links. PS, maybe Joe just has the DS1 on his pedal board for the same reason I do.....because he already owns it, and figures he may be able to use it for something in the future haah! As far as i know though, he's getting all of his traditional distrtion tones from the JSX alone (I'm not counting the Fulltone Ultimate octave or other fuzzboxes etc etc). I hope this helps.

Cheese - Chris' room looks pretty clean to me.

Joe Satriani - I understand the dilema that you as an established artist is in. It would seem that the record companies, instead of trying to strong arm people, would find some why to use the situation caused by the internet to their advantage. There has to be some kind of marketing value to all this, especially for the smaller artists. Having said that, I don't have a clue what the value would be. I am no business mind, just almost a Civil Engineer. There are quite a few unknowns that I have in my collection only because of the internet. File sharing and burning of CD's will not stop. It just seems that the industry would be better seved working WITH the people that are paying the bills.

That is one of the problems. New and young musicans float around and never get the full credit due to them!
Im trying to get things going for a few artist around my area and if you don't fit the mold the music industy set you can't even get radio play! I check out most of the people here on the site and I am just amazed that thay are not signed to a lable and geting hear all over the world. Now that sucks!
