962 - i'll go try look for that Steinberg.. it must be quite a bit of work for the drum tracks eh? i make drum tracks on the keyboard then record it via line-in, then work out the guitar parts and bass after that, kinda stone age tech if you ask me...

hoiguy79 - man that one really didnt look much like a strat to me, i mean i cant find the pickguard and all, hehe so are those for sale or just specially made stuff?

962 - where are you did you miss my last post - here it is again - what's this about your vibes? Did I miss a post of your tunes - play it again sam, would luv to hear your grooves, I bet there are loads of great guitarists on this site! Your good at answering questions, so tell me how do you get the idea for a guitar track title, is it just what you were thinking at the time, does someone say hey that sounds like.... what, I mean come on where does "Borg Sex, Hoards of Locusts, Gnaahh come from??? OK perhaps joe was having a bad day for that last one, and Satch Boogie has been explained but tell me?

MariMari - by the looks of your photo's you already ARE their photographer - would you like to take some studio stills? A cover for an album would be nice I guess eh!?

js1000 - Canada Eh! thanks for the explanation - got something goin there Eh! I'm not part canadian Eh! but hey, at least you know there are some more canadian's in here, eh - even if their only part-timers eh! what does it matter though Eh, were all Satchites thats the important thing, Eh!!

Love & Hugs Satriella xx

TOALL: I just scored a gig playing guitar with this sax guy doing a jazz thing. The first practice is wed. and the show is this saturday at a big local jazz festival. I've got to learn 16 songs by saturday....yikes! I'm under alot of pressure too, because he was going to pick (Orlando, FL guitar wizard)Angelo Ginotti (that's right, he's in your Carvin Catolouge) but he was unavailable, so I really don't want to make an ass of myself. Have any of you guys ever been called up to do a last minute suicidal concert? haah!

TOALL: Oh yeah....one other thing, on the lead sheets he gave me, he uses the symbol of M7(b5) dim7 and o7. It's my understanding that these all mean "half diminished" (1 b3 b5 7) Does this sound right to you guys? And by the way, why the hell doesn't every jazz guy decide on standard notation for chords? ...I mean, there is some concensus, but some folks use the symbols above to mean half diminished and other folks use a circle with a line through it to mean half diminished, since whole diminished (1 b3 b5 6) is typically the symbol for whole diminished.

Satriella, Sorry for the slow reply, I didn't get on here yesterday evening 'cause I was busy working on a new tune!

thanks for asking anyway. If you head here - http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=259685 - you can check out some MP3's of mine. I'd like to invite you to check out The Jester and Silver Rain as these are two I've finished recently and I'm much happier with than the old stuff.

Regards naming of tracks - well, whenever you ctart a new project (tune) in Cubase you have to create a new folder to put all the sounds in that you record. And you have to name that folder before you can even start, so usualy the "working title" that I give a tune remains with it permanently. So, it's a pretty random process for me, but I do tend to spend a few minutes trying to think of a good name, and sometimes I'll have a good idea of roughly how I want a track to sound before I start - fast or slow, happy or sad, raw or synthy - and I will, on occasion, change the name afterwards!

I don't know if folks such as Joe have a slightly more 'focused' process to naming their work! Haha, I'm sure they do!

fizz450_03, yeah getting Cubase would be cool, though I must warn you, it's a pro package so it'll take a long long time to learn. Getting some sort of guide/manual/tuition would help, 'cause there's a whole lot of stuff you need to be shown.

I currently know about 50% of it....I still have no idea how to use it for surround sound mixes (well, I have a slight idea but still haven't done it!) and I have no idea how you use it to sequence video frames to put a soundtrack to a movie. It's a massively powerful program that will do way more than many people need it to, but it's very obliging and doesn't try to interfere and suggest stuff!

haha, can you imagine if Microsoft made an audio engineering suite - they'd have a little animated musical note who'd pop up and say "it looks like you're trying to write a song. You may find writing some lyrics will help make it sound better. Try the MS Lyric Wizard...." hahaha. sorry, random tangent.

So yeah, drum tracks.....when you get used to the process it doesn't take too long. With a track like Silver Rain, I put a very basic beat down, record everything else and then finish up by adding drum fills, extra cymbals and changes to the drumming patterns to make it sound more natural.

edit:

marimariSRV, thanks loads for the email! I'll have to download the photos in small groups 'cause it'll take me a while, but I've seen there's some special ones on there! I hope you got some good shots with your D70 too....keep me posted!

ABOUT A T2JSINFONIE

Well, all,

Steveen T & Me have decided to compose together a Symphony. You are all invited to participe to that. I know that the word Sinfonie can be scaring, so i'm gonna to pinpoint the project.

To go back to classical definitions,

A Concerto is a composition for one or several soloits & an orchestra.

A Sonata is a compositon in several movements for soloist or orchestra.

A Symphony is a sonata for orchestra characterised by the multiplicity of instruments & diversity of timbers.

Some modern guitar ideas of these compositions in our logistic here can be:

A Concerto is a composition for one or several soloist & a band (real or virtual.) So, almost all the Joe's music.

A Sonata is a composition in several movements for soloist or band.

A Symphony is a sonata for band (real or virtual) characterised by the multiplicity of instruments & diversity of timbers.

All that defined, the T2JSymphony guitar could be a composition in several movements characterised by multiplicity of stuff (with why not introduction of others instruments Keyboard, Sax, Harmonica....) & diversity of timbers (sounds).

Cube You don't say 'Eh?'......whats that all aboot? lol ;-)

Zenfish Dude, I would definitely like to have a tape of your playing. If you mail me at vfrrocker@btinternet.com I can let you have my home address. I think that your sinfonie idea is great bro' but the logistics are frightening - surely you must be looking at having some kind of theme / continuity or am I missing the point?

962 "it looks like you're trying to write a song. You may find writing some lyrics will help make it sound better. Try the MS Lyric Wizard...." roflmfao bro'............... a tangent maybe but my kind of thought process - lol Did you ever see the one with the MS dog on it? I see that you are writing a letter would you like me to (i) Help with a suggestions (ii) Provide a standard format (iii) Shit on the carpet lol

Zenfish...excellent...we've begun....I just finished a piece last night "Winter Migration"....you suggested 30 seconds....yes?

1.Should we choose a common key, will each successive piece of work be related someway to the one preceeding it?

2.Should their be a common time signature that runs through out?

I'm ready, maybe seeing as though this is your birth canal...your piece should be the cornerstone by which it matures.

That being said...if you'd like to send me your 1st piece (via snail mail), I or whoever wishes to be the next to build off your idea can add their 2nd movement.

If your only obstacle is the recording technology, then you can send it to me, I'll convert the tape to mp3 & send it to the rest of the composers...??

I hope that you'll understand my message because I'm french and I don't speak english very well (sorry)...So i have just one question : When will you come in France, AGAIN, for a mega show with Steve Vai?

...It will be very marvellous!!!

I know...I'm certainly too ambitious! So I imagine that it's not in your project, but we never know...Maybe one day?!?!... Except this question I would like to say you that you are certainly one of the best guitarist...with steve of course!!! Sorry again for my english who is very bad... Does anyone knows if Joe uses a stock DS-1??? Or it is a modded DS-1???

...I know Steve Vai gave him a Robert Keeley DS-1...

...does Joe uses his DS-1 as main distortion or he uses as a boost for his amp???
