RoWashburn: Joe used to use a Japanese made Boss DS1. The ones made now are Taiwanese, so if you want it to sound kind of like a hifi version of the original Jap model, get it modded by Keeley...it's very good. I think ultimately though, you'll be better served ti save your money for an all tube amp that generates the distortion, instead of using a pedal...the difference is huge.

Rob310, hmm cool, ok. If you have an idea of what kind of overdrive sound you want, that'd help. But anyway, on those parameters, a decent valve combo would be good I think.
Cornford make a cool combo called a Harlequin. Their stuff sounds really nice and sophisticated - Joe used some Cornfords on the UK leg of his 2002 SBM tour.
Laney make some decent valve combos at a mid-range price. Their VC30 range are great - they're 30 watt class A valve amps so they don't need to be cranked ridiculously loud to get a good sound, but they've got tonnes of great gainy tone to play with. There's a few of them with different speaker combinations - VC30112 has a single 12-inch speaker, VC30210 has a pair of 10-inch speakers, and VC30212 has a pair of 12-inch speakers.
Andy Timmons and Paul Gilbert are both Laney users, so their stuff will give you a good idea of what Laney stuff generally sounds like.
I don't know much about Peavey stuff 'cause there's not much of it round my local region of the UK, but I'm just looking at some of their stuff and the Classic 50 range looks promising. They're all-valve combos, as are the Delta Blues amps. The Classic 50's have a master volume control too which is kinda nice - if it works the same as the master volume on my H&K, it means you can have the good tone at a practice amp level, although I'm not sure how that will work in an all-valve amp.
Then there's things like Vox and Marshall......in my opinion they're much more personal and you have to try them 'cause you either love 'em or hate 'em. More so with Vox than Marshall. Fender do make valve combos but they don't have a great overdrive channel. Fenders are famed for their clean channel sound, but not for their overdrive!
Hope some of that helps, feel free to ask more questions if you have them!
Satriella, haha, thanks for your kind words of support! I'm really glad you're liking my stuff so much. if you email me - airman_siro@yahoo.co.uk - your postal address I'll get a CD sent to you. I've got a project almost finished so I might wait until that's done and then stick that on there too!

Hi Joe
Thanks for the incredible Live in Tokyo DVD!
Picture and sound quality are amazing - a lot better than with previous G3 DVD. Your guitar sound was also much better and it brought memories of your live in San Francisco DVD. I think your playing was also improved a lot since "Yngwie-tour"
Thanks again

I would love to... ;)

I talked to keeley, and he send me the mods in the DS-1...both the Seeing Eye Mod and the Ultra Mod, and I'm intending in doing it myself....already have the components for the mods...
...about the all tube amp, I'm about to buy one.
...I'm still in doubt about what amp I should get...and I'm getting an HandMade amp.( all point to point , hand wired )
...I'm thinking in a Marshall JCM800 or a Soldano Slo100...which one do you think I should get?!?!?!
I know the Soldano Slo100 has much distortion, and the JCM800 sounds more vintage...but with the Boss DS-1 as main distortion or as a boost...wich one will sound better?!?!
...I don't play heavy metal, my intencion is to get a sound like Joe, Vai, Van Halen...
Anyone have any idea?!?!

Rowashburn...does a store near you have both to try... maybe Joe's Peavey head too? I had a JCM800 was too thin for me...I think Joe's or a 5150 might do....IMHO...Soldano...is sweeter from my experience, and maybe not edgy enough...best to try them yourself...of course....

St. Joe! How's it hanging?
I recently did a Google image search for "Satriani". I was looking for a new screensaver for my phone.
I ended up discovering some fantastic paintings by Carol Satriani. Is she your mum? Really melted my mind the way she captures light.Awesome stuff...
Guess you're not the only talent in the family, huh?
I was also wondering; is there any truth in the rumour that you sang backing vocals on Crowded House's debut?
Hope you're having fun in the studio. Cheers!
