Joe, I always wondered what exactly it means to be self taught. Im only 15 and as a beginning guitarist (year and a bit =/ ) i always read interviews of other guitarists who are self taught. Does that mean you just used books and stuff of that nature to teach yourself, instead of having a guitar teacher? I want to learn more about playing guitar ofcourse, but I had mixed answers about what it means to be self taught. Thanks.

Mr. Satriani I need your help!

Do you take any joint supplements like glucosamine? Does your fretting fingers ever get sore? My pinky on my fretting hand hurts after I play.. Its starting to scare me as I am only 21.

Care to share your ideas? Anyone?

Don Q - That's it: Sur la mare de la tranquilité...

I spoke to a French pal at work and he put me straight...
I get the masculine and feminine words mixed up...

thanx bro..

Zen - I'm going to scope your tracks out a few more times...

to find your center of gravity....
your influences are diverse and sometime ambiguous..
which makes for an interesting cocktail...

civgeek - aahhh yes... playing for the love of it....

shame how pro sports can dilute that sometimes...

hahaaa... and my center of gravity is 1664... lmao...

Satriella - if I get to play gigs in the UK I'll shout....
no probz....

my website is legal... because permission to download the music is granted by the artist.... and here is the address....

http://www.soundclick.com/clarky

I'm really glad you're enjoying my music...

plum - one of my best budz is Canadian... he's from Edmonton, Alberta... although he lives in Dallas Texas...

I've known him a long time.... he's an awesome guy...
a blast out on the town, and a super smart engineer.. I don't see him much... but I'll be in Dallas soon... so I'll be sure to hook up and sink a beer or ten with him... lol..

all you guys interested in my CD...
when it's done I'lll be shouting from the rooftops...

not long now...

yoda - I was never a rugby player... our team was disbanded just before our first game for knocking the shit out of the opponents before the game... lol...

I know what you mean abut the raking though... I got that a few times... being a keeper I had players coming in studs first on a "one on one" and when going for high crosses / corners....

and the ball hitting you in the thigh in the cold.... yup.. stings like fuck.. lmao...

the thing that got me pissed of though - especially in the cold - was stamping.. you're all moving around waiting for a corner to be struck.. and some dirty bastard stamps on your foot.....
but then... when it's time to go up for the high ball, I always made sure to make quite a bit more contact with him than was really needed... especially with elbows and knees to ribs and chin ....
and if I got two hands on the ball... shouted "keepers!!".. and made it look like a good take so I come away with the ball... then the ref most often sees it as a legitimate challenge... even if he's pretty hurt..

hahaa... we can all play silly fuckers... lmao..

slansh - hahaaaaa it was working / guesting on your song that made that little voice in my head say "Clarky... that was a lot of fun... you need to goof around with jazz a little more.."

playing on your track was a bit of an eye opener for me...
because it dumped me in uncharted terratory...
yes I've messed with jazz in practice.. but never in anger..

but then.. I guess my jazz is not really that jazzy in a classic sense... I had a blast working it out though... like solving a nice puzzle...

well spotted too... lol... DC's angular, angst ridden dissonance angle does rub off on me here and there...
it's like a cheaky schoolboy wanting to go against the grain and wanting to stick two fingers up at fashion and convention... lmao...
and from time to time I quite like that approach...

"let's get the lil' miss fashion 'n' convention, bend her over the bath, and do her up the hoop.... and where's me jerry can..."

lmao...

suzie - now imagine if that game were the final.............

babies would be made that night... lmao.....

erm... maybe not actually... everyone would be too lashed... lmao..

Hey gang... just picked up an awsome pedal... ISP Technologies Decimator Noise Reduction Pedal...

Anybody with a Boss single effect pedal board would love this pedal cause it would fit right in with the rest of your Boss pedals... I had my Boss Ds-1 cranked to full distortion with the gain cranked full as well, with the tone a couple of notches lower than half, and anything lower than -20 decibels doesn't even register, meaning that if I don't touch the strings, it doesn't even make a peep... and if you're curious what guitar I was using, it was my "Black Beauty" Fender American Strat. The only thing I might not like about it is that with delay it can cut off the repeats a little too soon, But I imagine with the right amount of fine tuning between distortion, delay and how much threshold you use on "The Decimator" you can get the right combination...

You might even like this pedal as well Joe, I'm sure you've got your noise gate situation in check but for the money and the quality of noise reduction it's worth every penny, and best of all Joe "It's Chrome" :)

ISP Technologies Decimator

Peace...

Bear!!

Hi to Joe and the crew -

I just read that the new G3 Live in Tokyo CD will install the dreaded Sony rootkit in your computer (see link below). I thought you'd want to know this rumour is going around and let us know if it's true. Not sure how relaible this info is. If false let's squash it right away.

http://www.idiotabroad.com/2005/11/cds-affected-by-the-sony-bmg-spyware/

Here's a shorter version: http://tinyurl.com/76mj3

See the update a page or so down.

I'm a huge fan, I reeeealy hope it isn't true. Will watch this space for a response...

This explains a lot...... It's a Full Frosty Moon or a Full Beaver Moon Tonight. The 1st frost occurs this month and Native Americans would set Beaver traps this month before winter arrived.

No wonder things are so damn crazy and people are being buggers.

marimariSRV, this is just a guess for your SOTD the blood & tears, but I think that's what she speaks in english before translating into her language, "let the might of your compassion arise to bring a quick end to the blood & tears" the leads at the begining of the song are some my favorites from Steve. I wonder has Steve Vai ever done "When opposites attract" live, that is a rocking song, I like to play it on repeat when i'm on my 12K bicycle, I start with this then I go to a bunch of Joe.

js1200js1000, you can't put pictures into a post right here on the messageboard. But you could put them up somewhere else - another messageboard or a web-photo hosting site - and put a link to them in your post.

However, if the pictures you want to share are "fan art" of Joe - a drawing of or inspired by Joe or a digitally altered photo - then like michelle said, you can send them to webmaster Jon and they might get added to the gallery.

Greetings, I have a question/ comment/ or just want to provide some food for thought. We live in a "relativistic" society commonly known as post-modernism, where there are no absolutes; the only exception is in the question. Most all things are considered "subjective", where the truth is with the one experiencing it. "Objective" being the other.

Is music at a point where there is no objective truth? What I mean by this: If say Joe, plays a song with one message in mind, should that not be the only message (one concpet/ truth), rather than have someone who does not understand the language re-interprit it to meet his idea of the message of the song? Simply put, could "Cryin'" be a song about chopping wood?

We are in a paradoxal society. Because his absolute value is hyper-relativism, hyper-subjectivity.

To say all is subjective is very dogmatic.

The objectivity is a construction. If people studied more Logic & Mathematics, Sciences, it would be less easy for them to hide themeselves behind the absolute relativism.

The post-modernism isn't a real concept, but a bastard word of sterile intellectuals unable to give a concept to their very imprecise intuitions.

The modernity, in Occident, is just starting to think about is own limits, politic, economic, ecologic, ideologic, cultural..

The Musicians are still working on the loop of Classic & Modern Eras. & the sensibility goes almost always faster than the mind.

When the musicians will have found the historic balance of classic & modern eras, we will be able to really talk about the begining of neo-modernity.

I seem to recall that we let the drongoes win the first ashes test to lull them into a false sense of security before going on to dominate the series. I see history repeating itself. Time will tell.

On another note, I fully understand your outrage at the disrespectful words toward the greatest Albanian that ever lived but IMHO the best way to react is to just ignore them.
