Rubber Johnny et al

The 'cum lately' was just a gentle piss take, a Johnny cum lately is a new kid in town (shit, sounds like the eagles!) your name, few posts, work it out.

I'm afraid I disagree with the clothing remarks, IMHO much of what artistes wear on stage is all about entertainment and appealing to the audience.

A discerning audience apreciates experimentation and the exploration of new direction/ideas just as much as technical ability.

Recently someone posted that Vai was trying to outdo his mentor, to me that is to be expected. How else can a pupil gauge his worth? However, a pupil can only test himself against what he has been taught, if the teacher is constantly evolving the pupil will remain exactly that, a pupil.

Joe Satriani, you are an original!

Keep rocking all.

Steve.

Chat Stat!!

I deleted my last message......but this is the same....... I am done with the Chat.....I'm tired of rude behavior. Grow up. Good Bye.

JOe, I will talk to you when I see you......Hopefully soon! I have a CD Burner but I do NOT burn CD's....I buy them..... I try my best to support the artists. I love knowing that I am giving back to them just a lilttle of what they've given to me. I try to make a difference........I've always loved having the Album and the Cover/Jacket to check out. That was almost as good as the Music..............depending on the group. Keep up the good work, I wil continue to support YOU and all the other artists that I can. God Bless you.

All My Best,

Mari

JOHNNYVOLUME...Dude ,,as a FELLOW BELIEVER IN A HIGHER POWER I CHOOSE TO CALL GOD,,I can see your point to a certain extent,,however,,,& trust me,,NOT JUDGING YOU,,(boy thats a first for me),,BUT,If you own a few of STEVE's albums & YOU dont think THEY are PROPER..THEN WHY DONT YOU BURN THEM!!??

Music is a PERSONAL choice..CHRISTIAN,,PAGEN..ETC..I saw an interwiew w/ JOE & STEEVE on a cable channel..JOE not only was amazed at how much STEEVE was soo egar to learn AS STEEVE was JOE wanting to teach,,at one point JOE said..DAMN..I NEED TO COME UP W/NEW THINGS..THIS GUY IS GOOD!!

Yet they jammed for HOURS together & enjoyed each others talents. They both have seperate styles as anyone can see,,,STEVE,,God ,,he played with ..(AT A YOUNG AGE.).one of THE MOST TALENTED guys in the bussiness,,however as weird Frank was,,he was a GENIUS.

STEEVE's clothes,,well...Its his choice,,just like the music WE CHOOSE to listen to,,WEIERD?? YES AT TIMES,,BUT,,keep in mind he is a genius,,like JOE & others..JOE is layed back...yet can BOLT out some of THE BEST LICKS AROUND..STEEVE is very dramatic,,yet soo passionate at times.,,but can do the same.

If you go see them play together,,You will see them do the "HARRIGATU BOW"..meaning RESPECT for each other..JOE loves to play with STEEVE,& STEEVE loves to play with JOE...DUDE,,try to open your mind abit,,they are different!!

On a softer note,,if you choose to listen to CHRISTAIN guitarists,,check out MARC SEAL...he's a great guitarest that plays at a local church here in my town,,yet has studied JOES & STEEVES music,,MATT BISSONETTE,,,(JOES BASS PLAYER) has played a few gigs w/him at THE COACH HOUSE here in town,,,CALM DOWN,,enjoy the music & let GOD guide your life,,you will know when its not right.

CAPT STEEVE,,WELL PUT

TWINS ARE DOIN WELL IN THE OVEN,,

Michelle I am 24 and as I said I have liked his music since I was five or six. As far as why I own some of Vai's cd's well...I am not so religious that I will refute a musicians work because I dont necessarily like his physical image. I have seen Joe three times live and perhaps another reason I am biased against vai is because every time I saw them play together vai did seem to have an urge to outplay joe. Also, my father and I have no personal relationship and that has caused me alot of pain in my life. I can honestly say that besides the Red Wings and George Foreman Joe is one of the only things that we use as a bonding thing. I payed for the tickets every time and took my dad to see him. The concerts we went to together (and 7 red wing games) are the only thing me and my father have ever done together. Joe means more to me than just a musician, he bonded my father and I. It sounds pathetic I know but it is the truth.

Dakook, thank you for not making me feel like I have an acid mouth. I was scared that I was no longer welcome here and it did hurt a little, after reading your post I feel much better. To change the subject a little here is an idea I thought of in school today...has anyone ever heard of the band 311? ok Chad Sexton percusionist (one of the best), Les Claypool, Joe, and maybe Dino formerly of Fear Factory in a project band....yes, styles can clash but imagine the possibilities! or maybe you could replace eddie with the singer from Type O Negative

For me, it only works on Asians - which is rather fortunate because thats all I really care about. Canadians rank highly too though.

I'm really looking for the set meal choice though - not flavor of the day. I'm getting too tired for that. see - 10:15pm - bedtime.

Mine sucked too, luggin kitchen cabinets into this huge loft appartment complex, bad back and all and my 2 wheel dolly blew a tire, so that meant I had to lug uppers and bases and pantries into their respective rooms by bare back... pain in the arse that's for sure...

10 appartments finished, 50 more to go

I guess it could be worse... I could be a suicide bomber or one of those guys who stirs the sewage treatment tanks just right after thanksgiving eh?

SteveT - every time I 'ball park' a date on my album release I end up blowing it... either by getting dragged into David Cross recording / touring obligations, or by signing up for other little projects like JemFest, GASfest, T2J CD etc etc...
right now though I know for sure that I am due to be recording for DC real soon, and we are touring in April, so from late Jan all the hard prep work will start.. so right now I am 100% focused into completing the project
I'm working real hard at it...
and I'm really not into making promises I can't keep - not if I can help it that is....
once the album is mastered and the art work is done I'll have a better idea for sure..

Satriella - wow... what a nice thing to read first thing in the morning.. thanks for your lovely comments...

Canada?? where do you get a Canadian reference? I've never been there and I'm English... lol... living in Berks..
Satan and and Mutha were recorded in a hotel room in Cambridge, England, PRM Boxter was recorded in a hotel room in Dublin, Éire...

Selling out Wembley?... oh I wish... lol... oh do I wish.. lmao..

PRM Boxter was simply a demonstration of a technique called "melodic substitution" and all the fun that can be had with it... I had a big pile of fun recording that one cos it's not really song.. just me noodling and showing off.. lol..

"you should be up there showing Joe how it's done"... lol...
erm... a highly flattering comment... hugely appreciated too...
but Satch is a true master.. and a hero of mine too..
so I'm not really sure that I'd be showing him anything at all... lmao...
however, your comments are really very nice and I very grateful indeed...

albums:
right now I'm putting the finishing touches on my first album "Shredz and an Exhibition"
I have to fix the rhythm guitars on one song, mix it and then I'm taking the recordings to a studio in the US to master the album..
this project has light at the end of the tunnel.. it's close to completion

the 2nd album "Volume For" is in the conceptual stage. I have a few ideas for it.
"Space Time" may appear on Volume For, but this has not yet been decided.
I'm also working on a song called "Indigo" and another called "Sur La Mare De Tranquilité" [not sure about the grammar - I'll get it checked]

once again... thanks for your lovely comments...
I'm blown away...

Suzie - the Argies have "the hand of God"

we have "the head of Owen"....

I'm going to see the England U19 game tomorrow night
we're playing the Swiss
sometimes I think the 'schoolboys', U19 and U21 footie can be even more exciting than the senior national squad..
because these guys are up and coming. They have everything to gain and everything to lose..
so they play their asses off....

come on England ! ! !

Civgeek - bro.. I don't know if you've ever played footie...
but just something I think I could point out... cos I used to play myself as a kid and now I'm a goal keeper coach for three different youth teams...

when you take a serious kick on the side of the ankle or knee it really hurts like hell...
it's most often not serious, but the bone has no muscle covering it, just skin...
so when you take a bad knock it'll totally floor you.. no question...
normally you'll just need a few minutes for the stinging pain to die down and then you can get up and "run it off"..
the ref cannot continue the game with a player 'down' on the pitch so he'll call the marshalls or team medics to take you from the pitch..
most often, by the time you've been picked up, carried to the side of the pitch the pain is beginning to subside..
the team physio may take a quick look, apply a cold compress for a minute or so... then you'll be up... having a light jog to run it off.. and then trying to get back onto the pitch..

believe me... it hurts like fuck... but most often clears up quickly too...
because of the nature of the game, it's not the sort of injury you'd see often in American football..

Zen - obviously I'm pretty intimate with Fripp's style... what with having hd to play a pile of Crimson stuff live...

and I love 70's Santana... the way he meanders through a long lyrical solo... like going on a long dreamy journey...

in your playing, at times I can hear the Santana dream journeys but with elements of Fripp's angularity...
it's a remarkably nice combination and you're very good at it..

I just thought the flanger was a little strong...
there are some nice notes in there but they're not easy to hear because of the intensity of the effect..

but then, if that's is the effect you intended that's ok by me..
it was simply an observation...

the McLaughlin influence may well be me hearing Metheny being fused with Fripp... think about it a little and the result would not be a million miles frm McLaughlin...
pace, dissonance, angular lines and abrupt phrasing..
and I hear all this in your style..

I really didn't hear any influences from your blue side, although I know you're a big blues fan...

interesting stuff though....

it'd be interesting to hear you in a full band setting..

Mari - when the first album is done I'll be yelling... don't worry about that.. lmao..
