Zenfish...... true Frank had several degrees of humor- been listening to Frank since LP days- but besides the observation, i'm just paying hommage to all of my favorite guitarist ... er .artist I should say, since they go beyond the mere virtuoso in to the realm of artist. I truly thank God for having such talent here on the 3rd rock from the sun, because it/ they proves my point that the guitar is the most expressional instrument that there is.... Hey by the way just listened to sinfonie 1st movement.... very interesting... good stuff, thank you master zenfish. Can't wait for sinfonie 2nd movement....er. that is if there's one comming. Thanx again zen !! lol :} MT

Hi everyone!

962, "I knew you'd enjoy Andy Timmons! Correct me if I'm wrong, but is he not just one of the coolest players ever?!"

Simon, you were so right...I was amazed by the man, he has a great level in everything. And yeah he is a super cool guy...very smiling!

Well, here is my review of Guitar Fest 2005 with Andy Timmons as main star past Thursday December 1st...

The concert was absolutely awesome! One of the coolest things was the venue, "Ritmo y Compás" is small and intimate (there are no barriers between stage and audience) and the cool and friendly atmosphere rubbed off on the artists, so the interaction with the audience is magic.

The show began with Tony Hernando, one of the main guitar heros in Spain as well as music producer and guitar teacher with his own school of music, he played fantastic but in my opinion he is too technical...and there's no much soul in his music. Anyway he delighted first row guitarists that were even filming with tiny cameras his incredible playing.

Someone commented me that in the 2003 edition of Guitar Fest he played "For The Love of God" and "Flying in a Blue Dream" literally "note by note" stunning everybody!

He was acompanied by the monster showman of drums Mike Terrana! There was a moment at his drum solo that he played soooo fast...that had Matrix effect haha

It took a long time to change gear, almost 40 minutes...but at 23:35 Andy Timmons on stage!

It was my first time seeing him and discovering his music and I'm impressed. I loved every song, every note, he is incredible. Versatility, energy, technique, melodic sense...and he smiles all the time, very cool! His show lasted about two hours, he played 17 songs.

I took notes to post the setlist here ;-), he played mainly songs of his last album "That Was Then This Is Now" and many new songs from his upcoming new album, so here it goes:

Super 70's
Pink Champagne Spark
Falling Down
Beautiful, strange (very Satch ;-)
I remember Stevie (incredible tribute to Stevie Ray Vaughan, he had a real guitar ecstasy during this song...a fussion with his guitar almost religious, it was the "climax" of the concert!)
Turn Away (he dedicated this song to Tony Hernando, it seems that they had become very good friends...)
New song (?)
Electric Gipsy
New song ("Move on" or "Gone" ? or something that sounds like that)
A song with oriental influences ?
All is Forgiven
Farmer Sez (the Texas cowboy moment, we shouted "yihaaaa" and stuff loudly haha...it was very funny)
Pungent Larry
New song ("Deliver us"?)
Cry for you

Encore:

Groove or Die
ZZ Top's La Grange with Tony Hernando, it reminds me to something ;-)

At the end, it took place a guitar raffle, the winner of the guitar, that was full of happiness, was asked if he played guitar, he said he doesn't play guitar..., then some people of the audience included myself shouted something like "play something, don't be shy!" and he said he plays a little, then we shouted "play play" and he played the latest part of Eddie Van Halen's Eruption with his brand new guitar, he played really well! I think he will never forget his first moment of glory...it was a real party for everyone. A memorable night.

You can see pictures from the show here:

Andy Timmons in Madrid 2005

Andy Timmons doesn't have a message board (?) so I posted them at Vai's General Music Discussion thread.

Enjoy :-)

Slansh, great Les Paul quote...... bwahaha!!! Think I will dig out the "McLaughlin DiMeola De Lucia Live in San Fran" for another spin..... Some eminently hummable tunes on that particular opus as I recall LMBFAO.......

Other great quote of the day from the late Georgie Best " I spent fully 90% of my career earnings on woman booze and drugs. The other 10% I squandered."

Good Morning Satchland..... How are you guys?

It's friggin' cold in Chicago. I remember telling JS1200 I don't mind the Winter as long as it's doesn't get into the teens or single digits. Well is a balmy 5 degrees. I shouldn't have opened my mouth. That's Chicago. It gives us charcter and I'm the biggest charater there is...lol....Sunday it's forecasted to be 39. Go figure.

Mari.... Glad you had a great birthday with Yngwie. Also, happy you were a hit at your reunion. As for the guy hiting on you at B.B.'s...well.....you can't blame him for that. Take care my friend. Hugs to you.

mtlhead....No problem bro. I'm glad you're a player...er....guitar player that is. You are a musician if you know how to play any instrument. It's up to you or any individual on how far you want to take it. Just because you don't read music doesn't mean you're not a musician. If you saw the recent posts on people's fav players. Most on the list don't read. Again, it depends on what you want to do. Have fun and enjoy playing guitar. Take care.

DAKOOK.....I'm glad I made the list along with Stevee T. Thanks bro. About more feeling with the SRV stuff....It's funny....some people say they feel every note of our version of Texas Flood...others say.....needs more feeling. It's interesting how people can listen to the same song with different ways on how they interpret it. It happens to me also, Somedays when I listen to that version. I'll feel every note...other days...it will just pass me by. Thanks for your comments. Handshakes to you....lol....

Angelina.....How are you today? Hope all is well with the twins. BTW....That's me singing and playing guitar on the web site. Thanks for your comments. Hugs...

Kayla....Did that mountain open up yet? Hugs.

Have A Great Day Everyone ! ! !

Happy Monday everyone! Listened to a portion of the sinphonie this AM. Interesting look forward to hearing more.

My husband put the Christmas tree lights up last night and we listened to Christmas music under the beautiful crescent moon and either Venus or Mars which was so bright.

Liminous ......Don't know about Joe coming out with a 7 string. You've reminded me of some Christmas Cd's. I highly recommend Two and I've had these for a couple years and love them. It's a little laid back but the piano work is great. It's Vince Girauldi's Charlie Brown Christmas. I hear you laughing...lol....But really it's great. It's the sound track from A Charlie Brown Christmas. It's soft and soothing and Vince's trio plays great. Yes....it has the Linus and Lucy theme. A must have. The other is by an Aussie( Hello Mr. Ramsay ) Gary Hoey. Not only is Gary a great guitar player he's a multi-instrumentalist. Gary played all the instruments, engineered, produced this CD. It's called HO HO Hoey. It's awesome a musit have also for a Chrictmas Rock CD. Thanks for reminding me. Anybody have these CD's ?

Angelina....Thanks again for your kind words. Cindy's doing good..... a little under the weather today. Thanks for asking. Email me your address and I'll send you and Rick a DVD and CD. Thanks.

peaceandguitars... shut up. I love Fripp's music. However, he will perhaps only be more successfully than I will ever be musicianship wise. As for performing, he should not be asked ever again in his lifetime to participate in an occasion such as G3or anything of the like. God forbid the man stands up and shows at least a hint of enjoyment or appreciation for being who and where he is. He needs to stop dressing like a science teacher and freakin rock out and stop sitting in the goddamn dark.

mikesb:Now theres a challenge!!! sing the entire CD of Friday Night in San Francisco, someone is going to at sometime, might as well be you man, lol. If y ever get round to interview the great spandex one again y might want to do a duet of Far Beyond the Sun with Ronnie, just make sure you both have an HS3 single coil, 70,s strat microphone, lmao

Zen:Thats quite a compliment bro, thanks, although i feel those players have a greater chance at a kick at the ball due to the fact they have a more rock orientated vibe.Ronnie has been pressing me to follow code for a follow up album in that vein, although i feel personally to stick to my guns with the clean guitar sounds playing some mental celtic stuff would be better in the long run for us, however, its looking like its a 50/50 split & i,ll have to do both, trouble is, damned if i can find a powerful enough rock sound on guitar that makes my arm hairs stand up, finding that tone is such a personal affair, valuable time & money & here is why

On the Peavey 50, i,m going to trade it in & get back to old Hiwatt bass amp heads & Marshall cabs, my overdrive sound has never been the same since i had my Hiwatt head stolen.I spent today with all the gear i have trying to produce what i had years ago with the same guitar & pedals, but no dice, so my only other alternative is to change my Peavey/GT6 & move on.The VG88 V2 is great for clean sounds, to open tune for different tracks & to experiment with, no complaints there, but click on COSM amp stuff & you find the same synthy wasp in a jam jar tone, the Boss GT6 is the same without the synthetic vibe, it also sports terrible fxs distorting the original tonal colour as apposed to Digitechs 2101 which retains it.I just need 3 good sounds, Clean, Solo, Rhythm, man its driving me nuts! have the clean, but nailing the other 2!!! Playing well is one thing friend, finding amazing tone is another fish so to speak

mari:The next will be better darlin i promise & thanks for making the effort, good luck in all hon

Sheesh. No disrespect to the Frippster. But, come on. What the Fripp!? Maybe I am being a little too uh "narrow minded" or critical. I imagine he was a pleasure to work with, but I don't think he was a good selection to have on a G3 tour. I've been a fan of Mr. Fripp for a long time. I mean no disrespect to the man. He is amazing, but I am just utterly disgusted at what I saw. When I heard the next G3 tour was going to be with Fripp I was excited because I was almost positive I'd get to see a different side of him to even the smallest extent. Anyway, chill satchologists! Fripper the ripper!
