962, I agree with your statement. Blind patriotism is dangerous, and follow the leader has gotten many people killed. Did the government those guys stood behind take care of the soldiers they sent to Vietnam? Are they taking care of the soldiers today? Barely. The war we are in today is total utter bullshit. Once again, so many lies. I give mad props to the soldiers who served and are serving this country. They deserve the utmost respect. I am more patriotic now than I've ever been, but that doesn't mean I agree with my government.

"There have been 2,327 coalition deaths, 2,130 Americans, one Australian, 98 Britons, 13 Bulgarians, two Danes, two Dutch, two Estonians, one Hungarian, 26 Italians, one Kazakh, one Latvian, 17 Poles, one Salvadoran, three Slovaks, 11 Spaniards, two Thai and 18 Ukrainians in the war in Iraq as of December 7, 2005, according to a CNN count. (Graphical breakdown of casualties). The list below is the names of the soldiers, Marines, airmen, sailors and Coast Guardsmen whose deaths have been reported by their country's governments. At least 15,955 U.S. troops have been wounded in action, according to the Pentagon."

http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2003/iraq/forces/casualties/

Take a look at the faces on the list of casualties and think about each and every person - and the families they've left behind. Take a look at their age and how they died and their hometowns. It doesn't matter what era it is, or what the profession of the soldier fighting is - dead is dead, and that's the bottom line. Why is an actor more important than a school teacher, and electrician, or a college student? I must say, it was interesting to see the actors and see those who survived the wars, but think of all the faces of the men and woman that could have been on that list of actors had they not been killed in war. Like I said, I have a great amount of respect for the military - the government is a different story.

song of the day - ROOSTER by Alice In Chains - one of the best songs ever written

Ain’t found a way to kill me yet

Eyes burn with stinging sweat

Seems every path leads me to nowhere

Wife and kids household pet

Army green was no safe bet

The bullets scream to me from somewhere

Here they come to snuff the rooster

Yeah here come the rooster, yeah

You know he ain’t gonna die

No, no, no, ya know he ain’t gonna die

Walkin’ tall machine gun man

They spit on me in my home land

Gloria sent me pictures of my boy

Got my pills ’gainst mosquito death

My buddy’s breathin’ his dyin’ breath

Oh God please won’t you help me make it through

Here they come to snuff the rooster

Yeah here come the rooster, yeah

You know he ain’t gonna die

No, no, no ya know he ain’t gonna die

OCPS470: Thanks for filling me in on the story about that ex Berklee guy.... Sounds like he was full of it to me also, and what a terrible thing to say about teachers.... It sounds like he had a bad experience and that drives his impression.... Too bad he had a bad attitude to go along with it, and I agree that there must be some dedicated teachers there....

....And on becoming a better player.... It's like Paul Clark said: It didnt make me a better player, but it opened avenues I never knew existed....

....Bowing right back at ya mari! :-)

michelle, thanks for sharing that list from CNN - those statistics are quite sickening. That's basically at least five thousand coallition troops who have been killed in the last couple of years, and nobody has the balls to stand in front of their five thousand families and tell them what the real reason was that their son/daughter/brother/sister/etc died. You're really switched on girl, keep it up!
Satriella, haha, you should maybe consider getting some of those CD's off amazon or something, then you don't have to wait until you go into London! It'll be cheaper too!

The email re respect etc. Of course people ought to remember those that died with compassion but I was disturbed by the email and did not agree with it at all. I also think of the Japanese that died and the great Japanese people that tried to stop Pearl Harbor from happening. To me, people are people. I have no elevated position for any nation over another. Love and respect for all. But I cant celebrate people dying or for the animousity one nation has for another, which when a war is won, is seen as a victory. I see it as a deeply sad and shameful event on the world. I was somewhat f a military guy in years gone by but now, I am pretty much anti-war and anti-death penalty. There has to be a better way if we can just get leaers not driven by politics and getting one over on the other. We are a very selfish people and its not good. I am not saying that i don't believe that certain war or conflict wasn't necessary at times, but it always became necessary because of the world's political obsessions.

Bottom line, as long as we celebrate and elevate one nation over another, we just keep on losing.

Let's just call it even, okay?

ISTANBUL (Reuters) - A Turkish villager who ran away with his friend's wife has offered his own wife in exchange, newspapers said on Thursday.

Farm laborer Cengiz Esme said Gulhan, his wife of 18 years, disappeared a month ago after leaving their village to go shopping in the southern Turkish town of Tarsus.

The 36-year-old said his village friend Mehmet Yaksi had telephoned him the next day and said: "I've run off with your wife .... You take my wife," the Radikal daily reported.

Esme pleaded for Gulhan to return and said he was ready to forgive her and make a fresh start elsewhere. The reports said Yaksi's wife, a mother of three, declined to comment on the situation.

A man was given the job of painting the white lines down the middle of a highway.

On his first day he painted six miles; the next day three miles; the following day less than a mile.

When the foreman asked the man why he kept painting less each day, he replied "I just can't do any better. Each day I keep getting farther away from the paint can."
