Mari, 962, Stevee T, Mthead and othersThankyou for your concern about my aunt, I really do appreciate it.
Stevee T
Thanks for your comments about my song and guitar playing. The wierd thing is that up until the friday before christmas I hadn't touched a guitar for a month because of all the work I had to do at University...I think when I got my new one I went into overdrive and just practiced my ass off...I love this new guitar so much...I don't think I'll be asking for a new guitar for a good number of years yet.
MThead
I worked in a different way to my usual process on that song. Usually I'll do the drums first and then come up with a guitar part to go with it. But for that song I came up with the guitar part first then worked out the Bpm and the time signature etc...I think it worked well, much better than my other method.
Thanks for your comments they're much appreciated.

marimariSRV About Pain of Salvation, I think they are from Sweden. I checked their site for any tours, they seem to just be playing around Europe. They did have one show in the US a few years back I noticed on their tour page. I'll email them and see if I get a response, I'd really like to see these guys live, they are an awesome band. I'm listening to this one song right now by them, 'Water', the singer plays a short solo that sounds very Vai influenced (not sure who their influences are though.) Have you listened to any songs by Pain of Salvation yet? I bought 'One Hour By The Concrete Lake' last week, really great CD. Awesome band and the singer is very impressive. I'm going to pick up more of their CD's either today or tomorrow. Also, they have a DVD out called 'Be' that is supposed to be unbelievable (check out reviews on amazon.com for their CD's and the DVD.) Yeah, I picked up guitar at a very early age. I've really improved my playing once I found out about Satch, Vai, and Malmsteen a few years back. Dream Theater had a huge influence on me, the wierd timings and just the difficulty level of their songs made me A LOT better. I've been trying to get a prog. metal/rock band going, not having too much luck, can't find anybody (yet, other than a drummer) who is really at the same level as me and can handle or even grasp what the hell I'm playing and what they have to play. Check out Pain of Salvation when you can, this band is really, really good. They aren't some new band either, they've been around for a while. I waited too long to finally pick up some of their stuff, don't know why I waited, but I've been missing out.
-I'll be able to post up some of my songs hopefully sometime soon, I'd like to hear what others think about it.

Hey everybody, its been a while since I've posted. I hope everyones holidays went well. But anyways I am applying to Berklee and I am wondering if there is like a Steve Vai scholarship out there. Maybe Im wrong but I thought heard that he had one. Also, has anyone gone to school there? If so can you tell me about your audition, like what you played and how long you had been playing for. Thank You everyone.

IbanezGuitarist I've been thinking about going to Berklee also, I already asked about Berklee here, only got a few responses, but they were helpful. There was, I think, only 1 person that went there, but he hasn't posted in a long time. He got a scholarship to Berklee and ended up not liking it and left. Your best bet would be to take a trip to Berklee and check it out yourself. Berklee is the most known music school, but there are others. I've gotten a few in the mail from other music schools, I don't remember the others, I was like bombarded by Berklee, I got a ton of stuff from them in the mail for a few months in a row. It's really a place you have to check out for yourself rather than hear about, it's perfect for some, or alright, and for some it's really just not for them. Hope that helps somewhat. I've been wanting to send out a demo to them to see if I had any chance for a scholarship, once I do I'll let you know if I get any feedback. I'm pretty sure they do give out scholarships if you send them a demo or audition...but they don't give them out to your everyday musician, you have to stand out and not only show them you know what you are doing, but show them what you got.

Thanks Guitarmiester... I was up there about a month ago, we stayed with my cousin who lives a block away. I really liked it up there. Im applied already and my audition is going to be at the end of the month. Im not sure what Im going to audition with but I think its going to be a Jason Becker song and a Stevie Ray Vaughan song, because they want two contrasting pieces. I'm really excited about it. The only way I can go there is if i get a scholarship, b/c $47,000 a year is a little too much for my family. Do you know what you're going to tryout with yet? How long have you been playing for and who are some of you influnces? Also what do you plan on majoring in at Berklee. I want to major in music business and minor in guitar. Good Luck with everything and let me know how everything goes. We'll have to jam next year at Berklee together.
BTW: Where are you from? Im from upstate NY, and depending on where you live I can tell you a couple other colleges around that I applied too.

Yeah, the only way I'm going there is if I can get a scholarship also. I'm not sure yet what I'll major in, I'll figure it all out. My influences are Satch, Vai, Petrucci, Malmsteen, Gilbert...those are my main influences. At the time, I'm mainly into prog. music, Dream Theater and Pain of Salvation, both amazing prog. rock/metal bands. I live in NJ. I've been playing since I was either 4 or 5, I've gone more in depth about my playing a few times here, recently too, so if interested just check out my posts. Off to play some guitar, I've been working on finishing this one song, it's coming out better than I expected, the solo I put in it is awesome, nothing but arpeggios for the whole solo, really amazing solo (and I'm not talking about fast arpeggio runs all over the neck, somewhat fast, but I made it so I can get every note in and play it all in an interesting way, arpeggiating it made it sound 10 times better than any other technique. I can't wait to post up some of my music online for other to check out.

Joe, I felt kinda bad when they asked me what my favorite Satch song was, I think they are all works of art. I just picked one of the many that really relaxes me. I've been a fan since your first album. I actually started to play in the early 90's until I had a bad accident at work in 94 and lost the use of of my left hand. I am now trying to learn to play again since I am starting to get the feeling back in my fingers. There is nothing better than the sweet sound of a guitar. I have never heard you fail at a song yet. Keep up the wonderful sound and I hope to play as good as you someday.

2006 is going to be a year for me to listen to a LOT of music, read a LOT of books, and watch a LOT of movies.
And to stop using the word "LOT" so much. ;-)
962: You can count me in the Forgotten, Pt2 Fan Club as well. I *looooooove* that song.
I still haven't seen the EC Crossroads DVD as of yet. It'd be a HELLUVA lot of fun to see Billy Gibbons and Steve Vai play on the same stage. Maybe if they have another one, Joe will be there?
