Clear your stuffed nose!

Forget Sudafed. An easier, quicker, and cheaper way to relieve sinus pressure is by alternately thrusting your tongue against the roof of your mouth, then pressing between your eyebrows with one finger.

This causes the vomer bone, which runs through the nasal passages to the mouth, to rock back and forth, says Lisa DeStefano, D.O., an assistant professor at the Michigan State University college of osteopathic medicine.

The motion loosens congestion; after 20 seconds, you'll feel your sinuses start to drain.

Unstitch your side!

If you're like most people, when you run, you exhale as your right foot hits the ground. This puts downward pressure on your liver (which lives on your right side), which then tugs at the diaphragm and creates a side stitch, according to The Doctors Book of Home Remedies for Men. The fix: Exhale as your left foot strikes the ground.

Make your heart stand still

Trying to quell first-date jitters? Blow on your thumb. The vagus nerve, which governs heart rate, can be controlled through breathing, says Ben Abo, an emergency medical-services specialist at the University of Pittsburgh. It'll get your heart rate back to normal.

Thaw your brain!

Too much Chipwich too fast will freeze the brains of lesser men. As for you, press your tongue flat against the roof of your mouth, covering as much as you can.

"Since the nerves in the roof of your mouth get extremely cold, your body thinks your brain is freezing, too," says Abo.

"In compensating, it overheats, causing an ice-cream headache." The more pressure you apply to the roof of your mouth, the faster your headache will subside.

Prevent near-sightedness

Poor distance vision is rarely caused by genetics, says Anne Barber, O.D., an optometrist in Tacoma, Washington. "It's usually caused by near-point stress."

In other words, staring at your computer screen for too long. So flex your way to 20/20 vision. Every few hours during the day, close your eyes, tense your body, take a deep breath, and, after a few seconds, release your breath and muscles at the same time.

Tightening and releasing muscles such as the biceps and glutes can trick involuntary muscles—like the eyes—into relaxing as well.

Wake the dead

If your hand falls asleep while you're driving or sitting in an odd position, rock your head from side to side. It'll painlessly banish your pins and needles in less than a minute, says Dr. DeStefano.

A tingly hand or arm is often the result of compression in the bundle of nerves in your neck; loosening your neck muscles releases the pressure. Compressed nerves lower in the body govern the feet, so don't let your sleeping dogs lie. Stand up and walk around.

Impress your friends!

this one is pretty neat

Next time you're at a party, try this trick:

Have a person hold one arm straight out to the side, palm down, and instruct him to maintain this position. Then place two fingers on his wrist and push down. He'll resist.

Now have him put one foot on a surface that's a half inch higher (a few magazines) and repeat. This time his arm will cave like the French.

By misaligning his hips, you've offset his spine, says Rachel Cosgrove, C.S.C.S., co-owner of Results Fitness, in Santa Clarita, California. Your brain senses that the spine is vulnerable, so it shuts down the body's ability to resist.

Breathe underwater

If you're dying to retrieve that quarter from the bottom of the pool, take several short breaths first—essentially, hyperventilate.

When you're underwater, it's not a lack of oxygen that makes you desperate for a breath; it's the buildup of carbon dioxide, which makes your blood acidic, which signals your brain that somethin' ain't right.

"When you hyperventilate, the influx of oxygen lowers blood acidity," says Jonathan Armbruster, Ph.D., an associate professor of biology at Auburn University. "This tricks your brain into thinking it has more oxygen." It'll buy you up to 10 seconds.

Read minds

Your own that is.

"If you're giving a speech the next day, review it before falling asleep," says Candi Heimgartner, an instructor of biological sciences at the University of Idaho.

Since most memory consolidation happens during sleep, anything you read right before bed is more likely to be encoded as long-term memory.

Up for auction Number 806 - Ibanez 10th Anniversary guitar starting today January 3rd. # 7379570306 VERY RARE, collector guitar. Well-known since Steve Vai plays one. www.HarryBrett.NET just sold his Crystal Planet & now this one, as told plays too similiar guitars to you & VAI. He loves the Ibanez, since stay in tune while using the whammy bar & to have his white one airbrushed for own image. He hopes to attend The Namm Show - wishes he had a booth, but to see what it all about. He's currently changing his songs on his website & to REdownload them, as 11 songs were done in less than 2 days, almost all in just 1 take & not 1 rehearsal done with Charlie Daniel's drummer & Larry Carlton's bass player. Hope he gets to meet you someday - he's mostly self-taught, started at the age of 8 & big fans of you, Vai, Page, Van Halen, Malmsteen, Morse, Marino, Lynch, Nugent, Vaughan, Beck, Johnson,...His direct email is on his site as well (harrybrett@comcast.net).

Happy birthday to me, la lala la la laaaa :-p

marimariSRV, haha, it seems all my hard work (yeah, right!) promoting Andy has paid off! A bunch of you folks have discovered how great he is, and I'm seeing a whole lot of people saying they'd like to see Andy on the next G3. of course, mikey helped by posting the link to Austin's Page O' Stuff! :-)

Just listening to EJ at the moment - did you get the DVD or CD of Austin City Limits? His live recording of Righteous kicks ass!

js1200js1000, cool to hear you were with all your cool folks for christmas.....whereabout was that? Was it Ontario? Speaking of which.....what's Ontario like?
Powerslave, haha, Vai and Billy Gibbons on the same stage? That'd be worth seeing. Yeah, Joe has to get on the next one, and Andy deserves to be there too!
CamK, while I see your point, I'd suggest that those who persevere with more effort get more response. It's really just like going to a big party or something......when you get there, there's already loads of people there and it will generally take you a while to establish yourself. Tell us all more about yourself, what your favourite tunes are, why you like Joe, join in any discussions that are already going......unlike all other messageboards, you will probably be welcomed into people's conversations!

Peace :-]

Cliff, happy new year dude! I ordered two of Dramagods: Love on Japanese import from Revolution International! Definitely worth the 25 quid a pop, if you ask me. Can't wait to hear the whole thing!
Satriella, so did you buy that copy of EJ's Venus Isle album? You should consider using amazon to get your CD list, you'll get the whole lot, no trouble!

Hugs x

Anybody else from canada, please feel free to tell me anything about your area and all the good things (and bad things if there are any) about living where you live.

I'm trying to build up a basic idea of what to expect from what, on outward appearances, seems to be one of the finest countries on earth.

thanks guys... i've had a pretty rough day :-( mom, he wasn't that old... in the summer of 2004 he took redundancy and early retirement, so i'm guessing he was somewhere between 58 and 62... a few weeks ago he was diagnosed as athsmatic, the doc gave him an inhaler... on boxing day (dec 26th!) night he fell out of his bed (he was a drinker) and was immobile... the paramedics took him to hospital and it seemed he was doing better... then it turns out he had liver failure and fluid in his lungs... this led to internal bleeding and all other kinds of unpleasantness... he ADORED my kids, we tried to tell them today and lucy actually looked pensive & sad, i think she understood...
