civgeek....sounds like in order for your sister in law to "be the best person she can be" she needs to grow up and find her own place to live. It's a hidden blessing...trust me...now she's directly out of your hair...lol. Good luck auditioning guitarists...wish I could audition for ya !

Satch-heads....I'm playing at a coming home party tonight for a guy who got hurt by a roadside bomb in Iraq. I guess he was riding lookout in a convoy and spotted something on the road. As he ducked his head inside to tell the driver to stop, a bomb went off !! According to the shrapnel found in his helmet, if he had'nt ducked at that exact moment he would have been mortally wounded...lucky guy.

peace, SD

I think everyone here would agree that 3pm till 7am is a really obnoxious time to play music...

Well the people who were doing it have just gone to bed, so now its my turn...time for some Prodigy methinks *turns up the bass*...

Joe

I can't wait for the new album, I'm sure its going to be awesome as always. One of my friends asked me a few days ago "Who I thought was the most consistantly good artist"...I couldn't narrow it down to one, but you were in the list along with T00L and The Prodigy.

Mowlie

Sorry about suddenly disapearing off msn the other day the network was being incredibly annoying and it was bullying msn lol...It kept failing to send messages and signing me out...ah well, sweeeeeet acoustic btw, bit more than I'm willing to pay for one though lol.

So a whale in the Thames, whaddaya know....lol

michelle: I hear ya girl, and yup, the Denver defense will be a big challenge for them, but I believe Ben Roethlisberger (wow, that was the right spell, lol!) will lead them to victory!.... Denver has got to lose after last week michelle ;-) BTW, I gave cookie (and the girls) a hug for you :-) and by god, if cookie isnt human, lmao, I think she is, haha!!.... She talks to me, lol, and also, I know Moey will guide you guys to the right kitty!! :-) :-)

DC Slater: I'm sure everyone will be happy with your release news bro, we IS kuul, lol!....

Keniko: Beer is good for you, lmmfao!!!! ;-)

FabLawyer of SBM: Right on man, JOE needs Roy' cd!!!!....

Master Yoda: We are doing fine my man, and we are looking forward to the 2nd edition of the T2J cd!!.... BTW, thanks for the update on Clarky, lol, I wouldnt want to have to play self defense to find out, gimme a sword, lmao!!.... Stay kuul bro....

alexandrecaetano: My friend, you and Portugal ROCK!! :-)

962: Amen my brotha!!.... I've got the album too, and it is the absolute best I've heard in a long time, and hell yeah.... There is a lot of unexpected shred as well as the kuulest grooves I've heard in a long time!!!!.... The drummer is the best thing about the band (besides Nuno of course, lol) because his groove is the closest thing to John Bonham I think I've ever heard!!.... AWESOME band!!....

alter_ego_of_joe, yeah I'll see if I can help you out. As a general rule I would highly recommend that you always start off your practice with 1-octave major and minor scales. Play them in different positions, preferably every key going from the first fret to the 12th. Then do some longer scales, ie. modal scales. If you want more info on modal scale exercises just let me know and I'll explain it.

After this, which takes about 10 minutes, I choose to spend another 5 or 10 doing technical warmup exercises. These are not scales, they are just patterns designed to improve dexterity, coordination and independence. Let me know your e-mail address and I'll mail you a document of the independence/warmup exercises that I teach all of my students. If you don't want to put your mail address up here, just mail me - airman_siro@yahoo.co.uk

Another good basic thing to get sorted is left-hand shape. Make sure your hand is relaxed all the time, keep your thumb loosely planted in the middle of the back of the neck. Most of the time it's best with it aligned between your first and middle fingers.

With the end of your thumb in the middle of the back of the neck it increases your reach across the fretboard and improves your hand shape - your fingers should be relaxed and nicely curved over so it's the very tips of your fingers that are contacting the fretboard. Basically, the straighter your fingers are, the more messy and more difficult your playing will be.

Even if you prefer to play in a mostly legato style like Joe, picking exercises are still hugely important. I prefer legato playing but use my 20 minutes of scales and warmups as picking exercises too.

Hope that's of some help to you! Peace

oh p.s. Satriella's the greatest, but she'd probably prefer to be referred to as a "dude-ess"! ;-)

alter_ego_of_joe - First of all, thanks for your feedback mate. I see 962 has already given some great ideas for you, so I just say play scales and modes, in different keys in different positions. And then do it again. And again. Speed comes in time. Just remember, world is full of guitarists who are faster than light, but only a very few (like our mr.Satch) who can ALSO write great music. Speed shouldn't be #1 thing in anyone's playing.
