I found this somewhere else and thought it was cool:

Teen saves woman who once saved him

There are some weird Back to the Future-type things here... If she hadn't saved him, he'd be dead...and he wouldn't be around to save her later, so she'd be dead. But they're both still here.

punkdude75 - Collective Soul's longtime lead guitarist actually left a few years ago (after they released their greatest hits album). The new guy they're playing with is Joel Kosche.

There are hardly any solos on Youth, CS's most recent studio album. And Joel didn't play many solos the first time I saw the band (I think it was in February of last year), but he let loose a bit more when I saw them a few months later (August, I think...?). I hope he continues to grow comfortable in the band and there are a lot of solos on their next album.

I had a hard time "getting" Youth because the solos just weren't there...the album didn't seem complete to me. But looking back at it now, I think it's a great album...and it's one that the band really needed to make at this point in their career. The songwriting reminds me of the Disciplined Breakdown album.

Collective Soul had seven #1 singles in six years. Man, they are such a great band. I can't say that enough. Part of me wishes they were still as popular now as they used to be, but another part of me enjoys seeing them in tiny clubs. ;-)

ovation1 - Do you post over at Mike Portnoy's forum? I've lurked there for a few months, but I've never posted anything. Maybe I should change that...LOL.

...Austin...

Do the Stu: Yeah...I was kind of wondering how the new lead guitarist was going to be able to fill Ross CHildress's shoes. Not only is the guy a unique and phenominal lead soloist, but he is responsible for much of the compositional layered nature of the Collective soul albums. Dosage is still the best I think...really one of the most brilliant rock studio albums. I've always thought the production on that one is amazing.

Cliff, my first suggestion would be putting the Wolfgang after the volume and Wah pedals. Definitely keep the Wah before the other effects 'cause it's the best place for it. I guess putting the delay and chorus in the effects loop but keeping the others in-line from guitar to amp might help.

Clarky, cheers bro, I will take your suggestion into account, probably try it myself. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be an ass about it.....I got lots of people slamming me for something I'm not guilty of at the moment, so I guess I have a bit of a tendancy to be irritable! Sorry matey!
OCPS470, question about your Red Box Pro and THD Hotplate setup: Do you run the amp's speaker out -- speaker in on the Red Box Pro -- from the Red Box's "Thru" -- to speaker in on the Hotplate -- from speaker out on the Hotplate -- speaker in on your cab?

As far as I can figure out this is the right chain to use but I thought I'd ask first.....better safe than sorry! Also if it is right I'll need to get another speaker lead, and I don't want to do that if there's no point! Cheers dude

LucySorets, thanks!

powerslave - the reason the battery hasn't failed is because you use it every day... the more a unit is powered up, the less battery is used to hold the memory....
if you've not done it allready, you may want to look into soring it's config either with a MIDI filer unit or a software MIDI tool like MIDI-OX... if you save your settings via something like MIDI_X, make sure that your PC MIDI is not running via the joystick port, but running via USB or a proper MIDI port on your sound card...
MIDI via the joystick can [and did for me] corrupt the MIDI file...

If you're looking to replace the GP16... you must check out the Boss GT Pro.... It's a really serious piece of kit and is not as costly as you'd expect....

right now, my Digitech 2120 is back in the menders... I sispect that they didn't quite fix it first time around... if it turns out that it's going to start getting unrealiable - cos it has had a very hard life - then I'll be looking to replace it... the GT Pro is the very first unit I'll be checking out.... it looks very powerful indeed.... I've not heard one yet... but I've seen one in the local guitar store and I've read the specs..... over the next few weeks I'm going to try one out....

slansh - the thing with my 2120 is - as you'll understand - the zillions of hours invested getting it just right... the gigs and rehearsals it takes for a minor tweak here and there... that sort of refinement just takes so long to get right.... and I love the unit too.. it's so powerful and sounds great....

on tone though.. I think I'm getting itchy feet... time for a change.. although I'd personally prefer the 2120 be there to make the new tone for me....

but saying that.... I'm really enjoying my SansAmp PSA-1 right now....

Suzie - Jonathan Ross and man in the same sentence???

have you taken leave of your senses wman?? lmao..

Mikey - using the SansAmp is funnily enough making me alter my technique a little.... it's like it needs to be driven a different way to the 2120... you need to be more dynamic.. and to get it to scream you need to dig in a little deeper... I have a very gentle technique to this is taking some getting used to...
but I'm enjoying it greatly.....

Shredz... that is finished.... I'm now in the process of saving up the cash to go get it mastered.... as luck would have it.. I'm on tour in March so it's not like I've nothing to do in the mean time... lol..

962 - ha... I'm not slamming you... jeez.. lol... you should know me better than that... lol...
I looked at your plan... I saw exactly what you're trying to achieve... I personally only run a plan like that one if I have a good 4 or more hours of practice ahead of me.... so that I can give each subject a good seeing to....

when teaching.. a very good thing to keep in mind is....

learn little.... but learn it well....

so be mindful of cramming too much information into a student..
even more so with a novice....

so matey.... will you be coming to the Poole gig??

Clarky...let me know how you like the GT Pro...I've been using the GT6 for several years now, just tried the GT8 on Sat & Sunday....excellent unit...I think the GT8 might be the floor model of the Pro.....?

Zen - ok.. so when you are improvising or composing it is of course possible to have "accidents" whereby you aim to generate a specific tonality and get it wrong...
so essentially you miss the target and get a different result....
sometimes this can sound unpleasent... but on the other hand.. some accidents can have a remarkably pleasing outcome...
and this is one of the reasons that I whole-heartedly encourage experimentation, composition and general noodling around no matter how advanced or novice the musician may be....
creativity is something to be nurtured right from day 1..
it is of great importance to encourage creativity and experimentation without fear or shame....
I know for a fact that many are shy when it comes to writing.... "all my songs suck... blah blah"
continue with such an attitude.. and creativity will never develop... and then that guys songs will continue to suck... lol...

getting back on track though.. lol..
the real killer part about having a solid theoretical knowledge, backed up by a strong sense of aural perception is....

that when these happy accidents occur, you can immediately understand the impact of what is occurring at that given moment....
this means that this "accident" can now become a repeatable moment in any key of your chosing and therefore be absorbed into your stock of expressive vocabulary...

this is therefore one of the many paths of development...

for me, the greatest question in music is "what if?"

even if the answer at the time is a bad one....

continue to ask the question..
