ovation1 I forgot to mention, I emailed someone at the official Racer X site about the DVD's, and they said they'll be putting DVD's for sale soon, and specifically said the Snowball of Doom will be $39+shipping. (at least I'm assuming they were talking about SoD, that was the one I asked about, along with SSO, but they also said to post on the site where to find SSO.) So, I'll just order SSO from Guitar9 and either ebay or pay $39+shipping for the SoD.
JOE_FEVER As for coming up with songs, I have a few different ways: (1)Most of the time I'll have something in my head (either a riff or melody). (2)I'll just play and work on an idea that I like (and I don't just keep the 1st thing, I'll record things I like on a 4 track, but I'm very hard on myself, it has to be at a certain level in order for me to keep the idea. Kinda strange, but that's what happens when you listen to such amazing musicians, at least for me, you tend to compare yourself when you really shouldn't. (3)Just wait for inspiration to strike. It's really what works best for you, there's really no set way to coming up with songs. As for melody or riff 1st, I've done it both ways, either had a nice melody then worked on a riff, or the opposite way.
-I'll probably be missing for a while...really don't feel like explaining, sorry... Rock on everybody!

im not sure if i like the new tune yet, its good but different in some way, the start of it sounds like one of those new bands out nowadays, kinda reminded me of radiohead.. but then the melody kicks in, undecided here

its really different from famous melodies like Time from Crystal Planet where rhythm and lead line is a lot more complex harmonically. But in my opinion, its simplicity as its best. I do understand what you mean though:)

Awesome...Ten Words is another good one. :-) I'll have to wait until I hear the whole thing before I can be more specific (obviously), but in a weird way this song reminds me a lot of what I went through over the summer. I wish I had it to listen to back then...
Tilmonator - Joe hates the age-restricted gigs as much as we do. Sadly, though, I have a feeling his choice in situations like this is "21+" or "no gig". In the past he's said he tries to stay away from age restrictions...but there are times when there's nothing he can do.
...Austin...

Hrh Fish, I really don't get your point, sorry. Basically, I only have a few students who are at a level suitable for working on modes anyway, and I'm happy with the way I'm teaching it to them 'cause they understand it well. And I'm also very happy with my own interpretation of modal theories and how I go about applying them.
It seemed like you were saying you regards modes purely as inversions, ie. "I'm playing in the key of A Major so I can play an A 1st inversion" and that's supposed to make it less complicated? That just means you're not hearing what B Dorian sounds like in it's own right!
I don't think it over-complicates things just to learn seven patterns and their respective names. Indeed, with the kids I teach it works out really nicely to properly show them how to investigate the flavour of each mode....apart from anything else, it makes them feel like they've achieved something if they can refer to the latin names of these seven scales and actually know what they're talking about.
Also, I have to come back to something Chris said about tonality and dominant notes/keys. A song I recorded a few months ago came out of writing a riff and chord pattern using notes purely from the Dorian scale, and was in the key of A.
The bulk of the song was A Dorian.....yeah it was G Ionian, but that suggest that the key that dominates the song is G major, which it's not.
I phrased a few bits as G Major just to emphasise them, and similarly, played a few phrases in A Mixolydian instead of Dorian, but it's really important to understand modes properly and individually, if you want to have good command over their use.
alexandre, thanks for checking out the new tune amigo! Yeah, I wish I could easily record with a real drummer.....drum tracks are a real weak point for me 'cause I do them all myself and could probably use some guidance from a real drummer! haha
SOTD: "Wanted Man" ~ Andy Timmons, or possibly "You Can Count On Me" by the same texas-based genius. Both songs have similarly SRV-coloured grooves with cool vocals and excellent lead guitars! Andy rocks
Andy Timmons for G3!
edit:
Joe/Webmaster Jon, I had preordered the new album through amazon-UK ('cause we can't use your Sony store here, grrr) and I just got an e-mail this morning saying that amazon-uk has "Cancelled' this item.
I was wondering if you can shed some light on why they've suddenly cancelled supply of "Super Colossal" when they have always had a good supply of Joe's new stuff in the past?
Has the Sony-Epic grip got so tight that you can now only sell your music in the USA?

zinc master my mother taught me was fuuuny!! 15. M! y mother taught me about ENVY. "There are millions of less fortunate children in this world who don't have wonderful parents like you do." reminded me of a forward i got.....it goes like this......
Speech by Thomas Friedman of New York Times....
"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were told to eat our vegetables at dinner and not to leave them. Mothers said, 'think of the starving children in India and finish the dinner.'
And now I tell my children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India who would make you starve, if you don't'
