Michelle...what was the purpose of the hand scanner? I know its not for fingerprints. Maybe now all post-Dimebag rock concerts are going to require a scanner to check for gunpowder residue.

Anyways...Your story reminded me of the Ramone's movie "Rock n Roll High School"...remember that one from the early 80's? There was that part of the movie where everyone is going into the concert venue and one guy gets stopped by security. They lift up his sunglasses and the guy says "You're stoned, you don't get in"...lol !

ovation1 Thanks for that link! HUGE help! Thank you! How is his playing on that DVD? Is it more of his lighter material or Racer X kind of stuff? I bought the Spaceship One CD a while ago, didn't like it at, there were only 2, maybe3 songs on it I liked. But, it'll probably be worth getting. I've got a lot on my list (this is just DVD's) (1)Racer X - Snowball of Doom (2)Paul Gilbert - Spaceship One (and maybe Eleven Thousand Notes) (3)Hammer of the Gods (hoping they will be selling it on tour!) (4)Opeth - Lamentations. Not even going to list my CD list, it's very long! Back to Paul...taking BRO slowly, the speed he played it at is unbelievable, I'm making sure I have it as clean as I can get it (and try to be up to speed.) I've got down everything up to (and a little further) past where the counterpoint melody comes in. I'll work on the rest of Scarified once I finish BRO. About Vai's acoustic playing...it is so good, I figured out a couple of his songs the other day - Ballerina 12/24 (and yes, with all the harmonies too! I have a harmonizer in my Korg/ToneWorks AX3000G and I also have the whammy that I can set to up a 6th, such a crazy song!) Melissa's Garden, Sisters, The Audience is Listening, and 2 others. Also, working on Satch - Midnight and Malmsteen - Black Star. Yea, I've got A LOT ofwork cut out for me for the next few weeks.

Good Morning Satchland......How has everyone been? I hope all is well. Many pages behind. I tried to log on yesterday, but couldn't and I figuired the server was down and Jon confirmed that. So what's up?

Thank you all for your comments on Sean's art work. I didn't expect that at all. I love your work Satriella. It's very good. Sean didn't have any schooling in drawing untill college. Most of what you see on his site was pre college. As a senior he was hand picked by the Florence Academy of Art to study life drawing in Florence. They only pick 28 students from around the world and Sean had the honor of being one of them. Sean spent his first 3 months of his senior year in Florence,Italy. What a wonderful experience for him. Thanks again I'll let him know how you all feel. You guys are great.

Satriella.....I hope you've able to work things out. How are you?

Mari.... Thanks for the email. Yes, you too have been a great friend and a inspiration to continue my quest in music. Thanks sweetie. Hugs. BTW...I'm happy Rockzilla is serving you well and got you through the resent snow storm. 20" of snow. NO THANKS ! ! !...lol.... Hugs again.

gottahavejoe..... How are you? Are you still on the mend? Always hugs.

Hrh fish..... Thanks for the site plug and for signing our guest book. I'm glad you like our site. That's Sean's design. Sean is a web designer by trade. Unfortunetly he's not drawing as much like he should. The old story. MONEY TALKS. He's so driven to be successful it's really quite inspiring. My other son Aaron is thinking of starting a Networking Consulting CO. Aaron has a degree in computer networking from Devry. Aaron's a brain with computers. If you guys have any problems with your computer, send me an email and I'm sure Aaron can figuire it out.

Band update: 2 weeks from this Sat. our first gig with the new line up. I'm pschyed. I can't wait. It's going to be a lot of fun. We expect about 100 people. We're going to ROCK. Speaking of......

From Vai's news letter there's a link to CBS. Steve's is talking about many things here and I'd thought I'd post the link. My connection speed at work sucks so the videos load real slow. It's great to see and hear Steve. Check it out.

Hi Joe..... Can't wait to see you in Chicago. Please consider sighning our Surfing With The Alien Mural. (see photo section) I know what the time constraints on tour must be like and what a imposition it would be. We'd be so honored.. Please let us know. Jon has our info. Thanks. Take care.

ovation1 You'll appreciate this... Here are the next two guitars I'm looking at: (1)Ibanez PGM-30 Paul Gilbert. The only thing, it's has the TRS II locking tremolo, I didn't really want another guitar with a floyd rose-type tremolo, but it's not big deal, such an amazing guitar. I have no problem with floyd-type trems. other than once you snap one string, they all go out. You probably know what that guitar looks like. Here's the 2nd I'm definitly buying (soon): (2)Ovation CK047 FKOA. I really like Ovation guitars, this one is even nicer being made of Koa! I'm definitly getting the Ovation (soon), once I come up with extra money the PGM-30 is mine!

Dave, I guess I left out the word "held. lol! It was a hand-held scanner. lmao!!! You know, the thing they wave all up on ya to find metal. lol! This time my daughters studded belt set it off. When we saw Godsmack, the gum wrapper in my back pocket set it off. lol! Speaking of metal detectors - my in-laws recently went on a cruise. My father in law forgot to get a paper from his doctor saying he had a knee replacement. lol! When he got to the airport, they made strip down to his BVD's. lmao!! You would think the huge scar across his knee would be a sure sign that a 70 yr old man had some sort of metal in there and wasn't a hazard to society. lol!

Looking forward to the new album! My computer is way over 5 years old so I haven't even attempted to download any of the podcasts!! :) LOL!

I got my G3 in Tokyo Dvd last week and I thought it was pretty good. I'm still waiting on details of where I can get one of those rubber chickens tho - Joe, any suggestions??!

962 - I figured out my sound problem at band rehearsals last nite. It seems to be my Boss DS-1 pedal. I've swapped the battery out and tried it on mains with and without the battery left in and it still seems to loose clarity and volume for no reason, even if I turn the level and tone controls as far up as I can when it happens.

I thought these things were pretty robust but I guess I'm either going to have to send it back for repair or consider another pedal. Anyone used the Marshalll Guvnor II? Any suggestions?

Our first gig of the year is at a really dodgy pub in the drummers local area in a few weeks - should be good, we've 7 new songs slotted in including Little Wing and All Your Love which I'm pretty stoked about getting in the set!

Cliff About the Marshall Guv'nor 2... I had the original Guv'nor, but not the GV-2. I actually was collecting all of the Marshall dist. and OD pedals about a year ago, I had all of them except the GV-2 (I didn't really want to buy it new, couldn't find one used.) But, the GV-2 is supposed to be really good, I was very impressed with the new line of Marshall pedals. The Jackhammer was really impressive, but the distortion mode had too much bass. The Bluesbreaker II is awesome, I still wish I didn't get rid of it, such amazing tones in that thing. I was really hoping to get the GV-2, pretty much gave up after I was doing some remodeling of my setup (sold all the Marshall pedals and every pedal I didn't use/need to buy other stuff, very happy with my sound at the time, for the 1st time.) What kind of amp are you using? If I come across a GV-2 for a good deal I'll let you know, from what I've heard about it, it's supposed to be pretty good.

-HOLY S***!!! FINALLY!!! Figured out all of BRO today (except the counterpoint melody)!!! I'm not going to work on the counterpoint melody until I have BRO down unbelievably clean. WOW! Is all I can really say right now... I really amazed myself with this one. Once I'm totally done with BRO, finishing the rest of Scarified! Can't believe I finished BRO today!!! Woooo!

Marimarisrv & Satriella Sorry I haven't sent Somewhere Over The Rainbow yet, as you can tell from what I just wrote, I've been extremely busy. I'll try and send it later on today if I can.

SteveeT - thanks again...
death cube k - I think it is no secret that Joe is an amazing guy, player and teacher. Part of the success in being a functional human being in the above 3 modes is the element of discipline. Slackers don't have the kind of career Joe has. As a teacher he was VERY demanding. You were expected to practice and you were held accountable - he delivered all the goods, but you were expected to do your part. Vai, Hammet, LaLonde, Rick Hunolt, Alex Skolnick are all part of the testimony of his dedication and success as a teacher - what a legacy. I don't think I know of any single teacher who has come close in rock to this kind of roster of successful and respected students. I can promise you that having Satch sitting about 3 feet away - watching you play through your exercises could provide a lot of incentive to practice them extensively. It was an experience that was nothing short of amazing. I had the good fortune to be able to afford hour lessons - for 3 1/2 years that transformed my life. It has been such a pleasure to watch Joe go from being relatively unknown to one of rocks most respected players - and deservedly so. I still have all my lesson plans and every so often go through them. One of them was a major reaming that I deserved and put the fire under my behind to get with the program. I'm glad I did!
Take care, and again, thanks for the warm welcome!

Sincerely,
Doug

Guitarmiester - Thanks for the info! I'm using a Marshall Valvestate 100w Combo amp at the mo. Similar to yourself, I got rid of my old digitech RP-6 Multi-Effects and bought a few different pedals to match the main effects that I use about 9months ago.

My main 2 effects are distortion and reverb (which I'm now dialing in from the amp) but I occasionally use a bit of chorus, delay and wah depending on the song I'm playing in the band.

My sound was loosing clarity at gigs and I thought it was my ears adjusting to the volume over the course of a set but it looks like the distortion pedal is playing up.

I'm currently using the in-built distortion channel on the amp and straight away it sounded less 'processed' than the pedal. Although I'm happy with the sound from the amp's distortion, I'm looking at getting a pedal that gets a similar sound as we occasionally do gigs where we play through a shared backline and I need to try and get the sound as consitent as possible hence a pedal to recreate the 'Marshall' sound (I'm thinking back to a Gary Moore interview where he said he used The Guvnor pedal with a Les Paul to get the sound on his Still Got The Blues album).

I can get some great fat sounds from my Peavey Wolfgang but also need something that can... er, go up to 11 (if you know what I mean!).

Keep me posted if you see any deals!

Every Motley show I have been to recently (last 3 tours - except when they toured with Megadeth) - young kids were there with parents. Parents were wasted or drunk.

Last summer, the 2 kids just sat there - about ages 9 and 13 or so - especially during when Tommy was using his camera. The look on the daughter's face said it all - shocked, outraged, ect. I was too.

The concert rocked - parts were slow, parts were boring, but the music rocked !!
