To All... Joe Satirani, Steve Vai, Jimi Hendricks and others... have proven my point...heres something not mentioned ( bout Jimi ) Jimi's music ..simply put, transended race (as his major fan base was white)and overcame prejudice thru his music but, had to go to Europe to be appreciated.. I.E. different country, different race ( also keep in mind the time period) so when he came back to the U.S. he was revered as the first 'Guitar God' even though racial relations at the time were poor to say the least - Rock the Heavens Jimi !!- and after just watching the G3 live in Tokyo ( incredible BTW ) i noticed the parallels .. to see all these people in a foreign country ..totally lovin the concert ( performed by foreigners)..again proving that the Arts transend all !!!! Thanx Joe and the rest of the wonderful people who made it happen.. one of the best things - only thing- i bought myself for my birthday!!!!! MT

962: I prefer to think of modes as colors.......if I have a minor chord, say cmin for example that I'm soloing over, I can play c dorian, c phrygian and c aolian. Dorian always sounds dark jazzy bluesy, Aolian sounds plain old dark minor, and phrygian sounds somewhat crossed between eastern and major tonalities. If I've got a major chord say cmajor I can play C Ionian, C lydian, and C mixolydian (although I usually reserve it for a C7 groove). Ionian is just the plain old major scale color, lydian gives a happy spacy ET type vibe, and mixolydian produces a happy jazzy bluesy sound. I rarely use locrian, except in cases where an out of key diminished chord is used for a bar. Any way, I think of modes as colors. Also, on top of that, you can play cmaj or cmin pent scale over a cmaj chord (or a C7) and you can play cmin pent scale over the cmin chord. You can also play a Cdiminished scale over a cmin, cm7, cmaj, c7, c6, cmin6, cdim, cwhole dim, and c half dim. That adds a whole extra soloing quality....oh I forgot to mention, you can throw in C harmonic minor over the cmin chord.......tons of options, tons of colors...lots of fun haah!

hmmmmm OCPS470 Interesting...some people see maths that way too...there was a bloke on the TV a while back...he is like the rain man...can't remember what they call them..they had a special name...ummmm...no....anyway there are only about 50 of them in the world...but he recited pi for three hours exactly while someone checked off the numbers on the list...but he said it was like a landscape in his head and he just looked along the landscape...colours shapes etc...they tried to trick him later by reading out pi to him and hooked him up to some machine...anyway afterwards his monitor showed where they had quoted a wrong number..by whatever a blip or something...i think it was a bit like a lie detector...anyway he said..he could see that the landscape was wrong cos there would be a big hole or a tree or colour wrong...it was a very interesting programme.

Hugs Satriella xx

MarimariSRV & Satriella I'm sending Beethoven's 5th right now. I was going to send that and Somewhere... in one email, but it would have taken forever to upload. So, sending them in seperate emails.

-EDIT: Computer is slow right now, so I can only send Beethoven's 5th, I'll send Somewhere over the rainbow later on today.

I bought my first guitar 20 years ago. An Encore 12 string. Probably had about 8 guitars throughout that time. One of the funest ones (if there is such a word) would be a BC Rich Mini Warlock. This thing was tiny with a built in speaker. I still can't play for shit but it's kept me amused on and off for quite awhile.

Joe, is the new record Super Colossal inspired in any way by comic book characters, possibly from Silver Surfer? Are Colossals not a barbaric breed of alien guitarists, with Super Colossals being even more deadly with the guitar than their colossal cousins? Catch you later dude!

Hey Joe,

Thought you'd like to know we had "love thing" as our wedding song on March 19, 2005.

When I first met my wife, she loved to hear me play along to that song, thus it was quite appropriate.

Cheers,

Darren

Hi Joe! I can't tell you how much I'm enjoying the podcasts from the new album. I can't wait to get it Mar. 14th!

A friend of mine was at the D'Addario show at NAMM and got you to autograph one of the invitations to it for me. Thank you so much for doing this; it means so much to me since I've been listening to your music since 1992. Learning your music has not only helped my technique but has expanded my understanding of songwriting. And now I have an autograph from one of my true musical role models. It's great being a fan of yours and meeting other fans. Hopefully I'll make the show in Denver on April 1st. It'll be the first time I get to see you play, and I know I'm going to have the time of my life. Hope this posting finds you doing great.
