Apple rolls out new iPod home stereo box, Mac mini

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Apple Computer Inc. (Nasdaq:AAPL - news) on Tuesday introduced a new iPod "Hi-Fi" home stereo system and a new Mac mini powered by an Intel (Nasdaq:INTC - news) chip the company said was nearly five times faster than the previous version,

Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs said the iPod home stereo, which is not designed to be portable but is easy to carry, is compatible with all versions of the iPod. The machine sells for $349 and is available today.

"It's a home stereo reinvented for the iPod age," Jobs said.

The latest addition to the iPod family marks Apple's latest attempt to tighten its grip on the booming market for digital music machines.

Apple is far and away the leader in digital music players, with nearly 62 percent of the U.S. market for MP3 players in the fourth quarter of 2005, up from 52 percent in the year-earlier quarter, according to market research firm NPD Group.

Since the IPod's introduction in October 2001, Cupertino, California-based Apple has sold more than 42 million of the sleek devices, with about a third of that total coming in the fourth quarter of 2005. iPod sales accounted for 51 percent of the company's $5.75 billion in revenue in that quarter.

Apple also introduced on Tuesday a new Mac mini with a single core Intel chip as much as three times faster than the previous version. He also said the Mac mini with an even more powerful dual core Intel chip was nearly five times as fast as the previous version.

The Mac mini is Apple's entry level machine aimed at people who already have a computer or are thinking about replacing one because it is sold without a monitor, keyboard or mouse.

Jobs said the single core Mac mini sells for $599 while the machine with the dual core chip retails for $799. Both models are available today, Jobs said.

The new products come as Apple is moving its entire lineup of Macintosh notebook and desktop PCs and servers to Intel microprocessors by the end of 2006.

At the Macworld conference in January, Jobs unveiled the MacBook Pro notebook and the iMac all-in-one desktop PC, both of which use Intel's chips and related elements.

OllyNo1, are you still using your JCM800? As far as I know they're 16ohm amps, aren't they?

Anyway, there should be something on your amp, or cab, or literature that came with either, telling you what the impedence in Ohms is. And if it's 16ohms, you need a 16ohm hotplate....that's the bright electric blue one! THD colour-code the Hotplate for different impedences.

Oh cool, that's the Laney you got?! Mikey D (ovation1) might be interested to hear about that, as I mentioned it to him the other day. I duno...he might not be interestd at all, but anyway, as practice amps go, those things are pretty fabulous! haha.

cuthbert, haha, love it man! What the hell would a Scottish Bank be doing buying an Enzo? And why does the press seem surprised that an empty magazine was found near the crash site?!

Of course it was, these kind of ridiculous accidents never happen without their fair share of unexpected 'twists'!

SteveeT..... I'm fine. Thanks for askin'. Cindy's a little down. A vertibrae in her neck has pinch the nerves effecting her Left arm. She's been out of school for two weeks and they're going to start docking her pay. SUCKS. She has been in a lot of pain but on the mend.....nothing life threatning just a little bump in the road. We'll get through this. Somehow we always do. Like I told Fireman....LOVE is the best medicine. Take Care.

Joe....Pod Casts are awesome. I love them all. Kinda wish "Super Colossal" was a twenty song CD. I'm going to miss watching new ones when "Crowd Chant" is posted....lol.... Take Care and We'll see you in Chicago on April 5th. God Bless

Have A Great Evening Everyone ! ! !

Ollyno1 and 962: I ended up going with the THD hotplate on the recommendation of DCK, and because I read alot of scary user reviews about the Marshall Powerbrake. The big issue is that the power break is built with a device that absorbs the load. This device is glued via adheasive into the circuitry of the powerbreak. The typical defect, is that the glue heats up and loosens, alowing the load absorbing part of the circuitry to fall apart, leaving you with an amp that is essentially running loadless....thus killing your amp and making you dump a load haah! I wasn't going to take a chance on that.

Miss Beatrice, the church organist, was in her eighties. She was admired for her sweetness and kindness to all. One afternoon the pastor came to call on her and she showed him into her quaint sitting room. She invited him to have a seat while she prepared tea.

As he sat facing her old Hammond organ, the young minister noticed a cut-glass bowl sitting on top of it. The bowl was filled with water, and in the water floated, of all things, a condom! When she returned with tea and scones, they began to chat.

The pastor tried to stifle his curiosity about the bowl of water and its strange floater, but soon it got the better of him and He could no longer resist. "Miss Beatrice", he said, "I wonder if you would tell me about this?" pointing to the bowl.

"Oh, yes," she replied, "Isn't it wonderful? I was walking through the Park a few months ago and I found this little package on the ground. The directions said to place it on the organ, keep it wet and that it would prevent the spread of disease. Do you know I haven't had the flu all winter?"
