Hrh Fish, I really don't get your point, sorry. Basically, I only have a few students who are at a level suitable for working on modes anyway, and I'm happy with the way I'm teaching it to them 'cause they understand it well. And I'm also very happy with my own interpretation of modal theories and how I go about applying them.

It seemed like you were saying you regards modes purely as inversions, ie. "I'm playing in the key of A Major so I can play an A 1st inversion" and that's supposed to make it less complicated? That just means you're not hearing what B Dorian sounds like in it's own right!

I don't think it over-complicates things just to learn seven patterns and their respective names. Indeed, with the kids I teach it works out really nicely to properly show them how to investigate the flavour of each mode....apart from anything else, it makes them feel like they've achieved something if they can refer to the latin names of these seven scales and actually know what they're talking about.

Also, I have to come back to something Chris said about tonality and dominant notes/keys. A song I recorded a few months ago came out of writing a riff and chord pattern using notes purely from the Dorian scale, and was in the key of A.

The bulk of the song was A Dorian.....yeah it was G Ionian, but that suggest that the key that dominates the song is G major, which it's not.

I phrased a few bits as G Major just to emphasise them, and similarly, played a few phrases in A Mixolydian instead of Dorian, but it's really important to understand modes properly and individually, if you want to have good command over their use.

alexandre, thanks for checking out the new tune amigo! Yeah, I wish I could easily record with a real drummer.....drum tracks are a real weak point for me 'cause I do them all myself and could probably use some guidance from a real drummer! haha
SOTD: "Wanted Man" ~ Andy Timmons, or possibly "You Can Count On Me" by the same texas-based genius. Both songs have similarly SRV-coloured grooves with cool vocals and excellent lead guitars! Andy rocks

Andy Timmons for G3!

edit:

Joe/Webmaster Jon, I had preordered the new album through amazon-UK ('cause we can't use your Sony store here, grrr) and I just got an e-mail this morning saying that amazon-uk has "Cancelled' this item.

I was wondering if you can shed some light on why they've suddenly cancelled supply of "Super Colossal" when they have always had a good supply of Joe's new stuff in the past?

Has the Sony-Epic grip got so tight that you can now only sell your music in the USA?

zinc master my mother taught me was fuuuny!! 15. M! y mother taught me about ENVY. "There are millions of less fortunate children in this world who don't have wonderful parents like you do." reminded me of a forward i got.....it goes like this......

Speech by Thomas Friedman of New York Times....

"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were told to eat our vegetables at dinner and not to leave them. Mothers said, 'think of the starving children in India and finish the dinner.'

And now I tell my children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India who would make you starve, if you don't'

Hey Joe, My name is Jeremy, I live in Land O Lakes, Florida. I have been playing guitar since the age of 7 and am now 14 years old. The day the platinum tickets came out for Boca Raton we bought 2 of them for me and my brother as a B-day present. At the time we bought the tickets we didnt know you were coming to Tampa. It is a 10hr round trip to Boca Raton but its worth it. It would be great if we could get those backstage passes for the encore. Since your in the area my dad said if you still give lessons he would pay for me to have a lesson, that would be the best B-day present ever. Email me back at Cyberjagx2@aol.com or post a messege on the sight. Thanks! Jeremy

The Omni hotel is running a package deal on the suite with two tickets.

Hello Joe!

Frist, I would like to say that you are a great, amazing guitar player! I love your songs!

Now, I would ask you some thing... I'm from Brasil... so there is a great guitar player from here. His name is Kiko Loureiro. He's the Angra's guitar player, a great heavy metal band that has fans over all the world (most of them from Europe and Japan) So... Kilo Loureiro has a nice solo album, "No Gravity", with fantastic musics.

Finally... I want to see you, Steve and Kiko in a G3! preferable in Brasil! In Brasil, there is a lot of fans of you, Steve vai and Kiko. This G3... would be great!

It's all... thanks for attention and sorry about my english!

Good Morning Satchland....How about some comedy to start your day?

"Balls" Inspector

I don't know how they wrote this with a straight face. This was a real memo sent out by IBM to its employees in all seriousness. It went to all field engineers about a computer peripheral problem.

The author of this memo was quite genuine. The engineers rolled on the floor! Especially note the last couple of sentences.

'If a mouse fails to operate or should it perform erratically, it may need a ball replacement. Mouse balls are now available as FRU (Field Replacement Units). Because of the delicate nature of this procedure, replacement of mouse balls should only be attempted by properly trained personnel.

Before proceeding, determine the type of mouse balls by examining the underside of the mouse. Domestic balls will be larger and harder than foreign balls. Ball removal procedures differ depending upon the manufacturer of the mouse.

Foreign balls can be replaced using the pop off method. Domestic balls are replaced by using the twist off method.

Mouse balls are not usually static sensitive. However, excessive handling can result in sudden discharge.

Upon completion of ball replacement, the mouse may be used immediately. It is recommended that each person have a pair of spare balls for maintaining optimum customer satisfaction.

Any customer missing his balls should contact the local personnel in charge of removing and replacing these necessary items.

Please keep in mind that a customer without properly working balls is an unhappy customer.

Have A Great Day Everyone ! ! !

BTW....Make sure to check your mouse balls. You never know when they'll need replacing....lol....
