SupaaDave Yea, the JSX is 120 watts and the Mesa is 50 watts. Wattage really isn't a big thing for me. The Mesa might be 50 watts, but it's a LOUD 50 watter. Without a doubt it would be heard in the mix. Most Mesa amps have a wattage selector, I don't think the Solo 50 head does though. Both great heads, it's one really tough decision!

death cube k The LoneStar Special is nice, I was playing a few Mesa's...Lonestar special, Mark IV, Rect-o-verb, Nomad 45 and a few others. Still, the Solo 50 came out on top for most of them. They had more Mesa's, but the rest were a bit more pricey, triple rectifier and stilleto's.

Webmaster Thanks for the podcasts...

Joe Satriani Really liking the new stuff, can't wait for the album to come out! Trying to decide between a Mesa solo 50 head and your JSX...such a hard decision!!! The clean channel on your JSX is unbelievable!!! I didn't really get to test out the distortion yet, I only got to crank the Mesa, people entered the store when I got to the JSX...maybe tomorrow.

Hey Joe. All i can say to you is thankyou so much for originality with an instrument that so many people dont realize the potential of. u truly are an inspiration. U posted something a while back about learning music theory and forgetting it, and it would serve u well. How very true. that reminds me of a zen saying. The saying is, Before studying zen mountains are just mountains, trees are just trees, While studying zen these things are no longer just mountains and trees, When u understand zen, mountains are just mountains trees are just trees. How much of zen philosophy is in ur thinking i wonder?. Anyway good luck with the new album.

This post is fer my dear ally.....

The Montana Ranch Hand A successful Montana rancher died and left everything to his devoted wife. She was a very good-looking woman, and determined to keep the ranch, but knew very little about ranching, so she decided to place an ad in the newspaper for a ranch hand.

Two men applied for the job.

One was gay and the other a drunk.

She thought long and hard about it, and when no one else applied she decided to hire the gay guy, figuring it would be safer to have him around the house than the drunk.

He proved to be a hard worker who put in long hours every day and knew a lot about ranching.

For weeks, the two of them worked, and the ranch was doing very well.

Then one day, the rancher's widow said to the hired hand, "You have done a really good job, and the ranch looks great. You should go into town and kick up your heels."

The hired hand readily agreed and went into town one Saturday night.

One o'clock came, however, and he didn't return.

Two o'clock, and no hired hand. He returned around two-thirty, and upon entering the room, he found the rancher's widow sitting by the fireplace with a glass of wine, waiting for him.

She quietly called him over to her. "Unbutton my blouse and take it off," she said.

Trembling, he did as she directed.

"Now take off my boots."

He did as she asked, ever so slowly.

"Now take off my socks."

He removed each gently and placed them neatly by her boots.

"Now take off my skirt."

He slowly unbuttoned it, constantly watching her eyes in the fire light.

"Now take off my bra." Again, with trembling hands, he did as he was told and dropped it to the floor.

"Now," she said, "take off my panties."

By the light of the fire, he slowly pulled them down and off.

Then she looked at him and said,

"If you ever wear my clothes into town again, you're fired."

;)

You know what's really annoying...I was at the music store testing amps out again, pretty much every guitar I picked up was either in drop D or drop C! How can anyone like playing with the strings sooo close to the fretboard!

Thanks for the replies on my post about the amps... I'll try and stop by here now and then.

Guitarmeister: I'm sure you've seen me whoring the JSX on here before haah! I think they're great amps! To any one that is using Joe's JSX tone as a bench mark, I would say that me with my guitar sound very diff through the JSX than Joe does with his hands/gear. Also, the JSX is very responsive to the wood of the guitar.....if you have a basswood guitar, you can run the trebble and presence up high, like Joe does on his amp settings, if you have a balanced resonant mahog body (has lots of mids and high upper mids) you have to run the presence and trebble low. Basically the JSX will react very diff based on the guitar and player. I get a very smooth sound....like Vai's legacy tone, but with more definition in the bass end. I would tell you that the JSX Crunch channel alone has tons of amps in that channel. As far as other amps...check out the fender super sonic. It's a new amp that is just being introduced. It looks like a renaming/ repackaging of the Fender Prosonic that they quit making a few years back. The prosonic had a very liquid EJ type sound to the drive if I remember, and a Twin type sound to the clean.

OCPS470 Thanks for the info. I'll check it out, even though I'm pretty set on either the JSX or Mesa Solo 50.

I finally got EJ's 'Live in Austin' DVD this weekend along with Opeth's 'Lamentations' (Live at Shepherd's Bush Empire). I really haven't watched the EJ DVD much yet, the Opeth DVD is unbelievable! The 1st set is a clean/acoustic set, 2nd set the 'real' Opeth. But, from what I've watched so far on the EJ DVD, he was on fire, luckily that was caught on tape! I'm watching/listening to the Opeth 'Lamentations' DVD right now.... I missed them last week! They played in NY! And I knew they were in NY! Even if I would have went, the show was sold out anyway, I found out about it too late. Talk to you all later.

JOE: What are the guitar settings, sounds, amps and effects for this upcoming new tour?

Are you planning to play old songs or the new material?

What do you prefer: Ear Monitors or Regular monitors (speaker)?

And lastly: Can you make a CD with all your ballads, something like: "Satriani's best Ballads".?....I'm sure all of your fans will love that.....best wishes...

GTR miester - I have the Mesa Dual rectifier. I had used a solid state for years just because I wanted the stability. But, now that I have played through a tube amp (and I only use it for power) the warmth that it brought into my tone was amazing. Plus, the bass is much tighter. Anyway my $.02. Good luck with your search.
