I've had the privilege to work with Glen Hughes. A lot of vocalists have this persona cos of the job. Its a bit up and down with Glen cos he's got an alcohol problem. I worked with him on the Phenomena demos and the guys at the studio went to school with him so to us he's not Glen Hughes the rock star it's just some geezer called Glen. He can take stick as well as dish it out and he's pretty decent when he's sober. He's big mates with Ozzy and they've been on a few benders together. If you bump into Ozzy at a party don't ask him to play the piano !! (That's another story !!)

He's a multi instrumentalist and can play guitar well. He's got a great voice naturally and they don't treat it much in the studio. At the time he was going out with Linda Blair out of the Exorcist and we kept buying mushy peas and pea soup for him!! He was born in Cannock, which is just down the road from my Moms'

Just experiment. A lot of the wammy bar stuff is messing about. Don't be afraid to try stuff and give it some abuse. You never know you may stumble on a couple of your own tricks.

For the car horn effect just use the volume control on the guitar. Make sure the volume is off then hit the fret board with your fingers and then turn the volume up. This also works with single notes/chords and is also used as a violin effect. Give it a try.

Just catching up with all the posts. Regarding your query about age limits. Minors are OK so long as they are accompanied with guardians. They aren't as strict in the UK with ages as they are in the US.

Make Fish the dish of the day!! Is your lad getting enough Omega 3 !!!

Scales are organised chronologically. Modal variations are built on seven tones. The #4th and b5th interval are the same musically speaking. It's not grammatically correct to write 1,2,3,b5.5.6.7. The correct way to spell the scale is 1,2,3,#4.5.6.7. This is so it makes chronological sense. If you already knew this that's cool but I thought I'd just put you on the right track if you didn't know bud.

Hth Fish-Catching up on old posts?

It looks like Paul Nelson isn't correct:He met Vai at Berklee.

MuzikMan: Steve Vai was your guru while you attended Berklee College of Music. How did you end up meeting Vai? Who are some of the more well-known and colorful characters you met in school? You must have some good tales to tell about your stay there. Paul: Steve was an excellent player even back then, the only problem was his sight reading, so we would get together and read music from saxophone books to improve together. After that he would give me lessons showing me some amazing stuff like his finger exercises, modal work and some great chordal stuff that I found out later was from his studies with Joe Satriani. And get this: the payment plan we worked out was that I would supply him with a carton of cigarettes for every one - hour lesson I took, not a bad deal! Randy Coven and Dave Rosenthal come to mind as a few notables from back then.

Thats where the English insult the peace sign reversed originates. As you said the Frech used to cut off the fingers to stop the English archers from using bows and arrows on them. In defiance to the French at the battle of Agincourt the English archers would show two digits rampant to piss the French off.

Hey Joe. I'm a new member, and you have being nr:1 sens 1987, when i was lokking at Metall Hammer on MTV, and they played Always With Me, Always With You. WOW ! AWESOME ! I have a question: On my cd "Engines Of Creation" is the peeklevel to high. My big problem is that my nr:1 favorite song in all categories "Cloud's race across the sky" only can be played at low volume. I have serch in record chops in Sweden, but its the same problem on every cd's i have found. Have yuo any ides how i can solve this sad problem? If not, pleace do "Cloud's race across the sky" and "Champagne?" on you'r next cd. I like all your songs, but specially tanks for all your soft happy beatyfull instumental goseboms songs. I whish that you gonna make a beatyfull instrumetal rock song whith just a litle pinch of reggae. (Like: Imperiet - Du Ska Va Pressident, but whidout lyriks.) Tanks for itroducing John Petrucci for me with G3 Live In Tokyo.

I hope you can understand my bad english.

That was a bit underhanded of your old bass player. He should at least have the curtosy to fill in until you find a suitable replacement. If I lived in Chicago I'd play bass for you!! Thats how bands split if you cant get replacements. Hope you sort it out soon.

Thats why I like working with computers they always turn up at rehersals and play exactly what you tell em to !!

Yep bud. I've been really busy for a while. I met Steve myself on the Skyscraper tour at Hammersmith. The crowd were making their way out of the venue and I spotted bass player Neil Murray and got talking to him as we have a couple of mutal friends. He invited me back stage and I got to meet Dave Lee Roth and Steve Vai. Steve gave me a load of picks. He's a very spiritual guy and so respectful of his fans. The security were hastling me cos I didn't have a back stage pass and he told em where to go and that I was cool to stay for a while.

[b]Clarky[b/] - I'm trying to sell them, but I haven't had any interest yet...

I know what you mean about 'Transgression'. I felt that way when I first got it, but it really grew on me very quickly. I think it's about as good as 'Archetype' now.

But yeah, Lamb Of God are always spot on, with very album. Fucking awesome band.

Clarky: I dont blame you for wanting to get the 2120 back to full service (I've seen that bad boy and it looks like an impressive machine!) cause if you've got the sound quality you want, stick to a proven good thing.... Let us know how it goes, and on the cd's.... lol, cant beat Warren Haynes for that low down blues of Gov't.... and Alexi w/ Bodom.... Still have to check em' out, I dont understand the hype over Alexi, but he is frequently plastered all over Japanese magazines, lol, and LoG.... Great Heavy Metal, but I could never get past the vox, and then one of the great masters in Mr. Trower.... Nice variety there bro, stay kuul....

Keniko: Hurry up and post!!.... Get off that damn 666, lmao!!....

Satriella: Nice logo for the Satch Realm! :-)

cuthbert1776: Werd bro, Operation Mindcrime is one of the greatest albums of all time!!....

....Later peeps....

COSMIC_APE Whats up dude? Another day in the surf buddy only this time it was BIG! The Hawaiian waters have almost taken my life a couple of times, but not at Sandys. A place called Makapuu. Its like a cove. It doesnt barrell out hollow with mind bending torque like Sandys, but it breaks big and long with plenty of foam. If it breaks often as your trying to get outside you have little time between sets to recover. Now I use 2 fins and 2 disc handboards for 360's and tricks, but that dont help when you cant get outside! Anyway, I'm bodysurfing 6-8 today and the adrenaline is pumping man! I get home, turn on the news and these guys are tow-in surfiing 63 foot sets!!!! Now, when a wave is measured, its measured by its back end and typically the front end or the crest is 2x the back end. This means the face that they are board surfing is 120 feet plus!!! Of course, they do this for big money, but.....This gives new meaning to "Surfing with the Alien".

Thanks for the heads up on the perfume scam. Never had that over here though. We did have the GHB scam going at the bars. GHB is typically a bodybuilding supplement that has been banned, but it can still be made at home. Havent heard of it lately as this guy who was importing it from Australia got busted! After he got out of prison, I beat the crap out of him, sent him to the hospital. When he got out of the hospital I did it again. He is now a cripple. I know one thing, he's not in Hawaii anymore! You know looking back, ladies should never go to bars, period. With all the drugs available now they are just sitting prey. If you do go ladies, never, as CS says, leave your drink alone. Always hold it in your hand, even if you go to the bathroom.

What the hell was I going to say? I think FISH mentioned Ozzy. As i was working the front desk at this hotel again in West Hollywood. The Oz and his beautiful wife, quite a bit heavier in the 80's, check in. The Oz is going to rehab she tells me. Why she told me, who knows. There were 2 observations I had about Oz, besides the letters O-Z-Z-Y tattoed accross his knuckles. 1) He was always loaded on something. One night he came down to the lobby to meet some of his friends. There were about 4 of us working the front desk at the time. After standing there for about 30 seconds he started to wobble. It wasnt an ordinary wobble, so we all decided to place bets as to whether or not he was going to go down before their conversation ended. Being the nice guy that I was, not am, I bet he would hit the carpet uninjured. I lost. He made it! 2) Working at the front desk alone. Get a call from you know who. He wants to put some money down on his hotel account. 1 hour later, while I'm checking in guests, here he comes with these overstuffed envelopes craddled in his arms. He makes a mad dash to the desk before the contents spill out. What the hell was in the envelopes but coins! Nickels, dimes, and penneys! After the guests leave to their room, he tells me to apply these coins to his account. Tony Iommi I liked, but this guy pissed me off! First, I lost money on the wobble bet, and now there's coins all over the lobby, desk and back office. I told him to pick all the coins up, put them in a bag and take em back to his room. You know what? He did. Just like a kid. If management would have known what I did I'm sure I would have been axed.

Well, that's that. I'm tired. G. OUT................LATERS

Suzie, you're recieving positive vibes....hope your interview is going well :-)
Jak The Ripper, welcome to t2j. You know, you're in luck, 'cause there's a good selection of well-read players and teachers right here who are regularly sharing help and suggestions without any cost. Do you know what aspects of your playing and music in general that you want to improve?

Hows your theory? Hows your technique? Tell us more about where you're at with your playing and I'm sure we can answer your questions!

HrH Fish, haha, a documentary about a "Mirkin Salesman" huh? Pubic wigs are called "mirkin"s! Tesco ~ Every little mirkin helps! :-D

also, do give the "edit post" function a try!

Acid Wire, the book does talk about use of the tremolo arm/whammy bar/wang bar.

When you say "and the whammy at the same time", are you referring to a Digitech Whammy pedal? 'cause it doesn't mention that....

I can't think of any book that does, to be honest, although if you got one of Joe's Songbooks where you know there's a tune that uses a Digitech Whammy pedal then it'd tell you to use it in there.
