ATTENTION ALL MUSICIANS

I am in need of some help. I bought a powered stage monitor because of the number of channels on our POWERED mixer I am first in line of 3 diaisy chained monitors. To get the drummer enough volume so he can hear everything my monitor is way too loud. I thought my new purchase would be the cure of my problems.

My new powered monitor has volume controls but when we plug it into the powered mixer... it sounds terrible/distorted...

What are my options here..... Should I sell it and get a passive one?

Thanks a million for any help/suggestions you can give me.

I really was taken back by your thaumaturgic performance at the Warfield. My ears were not prepared to hear something with such dimensional perfection.Your sound was so deeply embedded in my head, that it took me 3 days(12hrs) of practice before my ear adjusted back to my level of play. Strange, but true!

OCPS470, no, but I have used amplitube. I know the sort of sound you mean! As for Line 6; that doesn't surprise me, I've never found their amp modelling that fantastic anyway. I think it'd be fine if they marketed it just as an effects processor in it's own right. I'd imagine their software bundle sounds like the POD does when you have it in A.I.R mode or whatever it is which makes it sound like a preamp!

thefireman, a common error is to have the output from the mixer/PA amp set too loud. With passive monitors you'd often run the PA output pretty high without thinking about it, but remember that powered monitors are amplifying the signal all by themselves.

I'd start by turning the monitor volume up to a decent level (between 5 and 7) then gradually increase the mixer output level (starting from zero) and see what happens....if it breaks up staright away then the problem is somewhere else in the setup!

edit: 2 things I keep forgetting to ask...

Has anybody tried DiMarzio's acoustic pickups? I was wondering what they're like, 'cause I really love the DiMarzio pickups in my electric guitars and am curious as to whether or not their acoustics are of the same standard.

ovation1, do you know what the chords are for any of Paul Gilbert's songs? Especially Boku No Atama and Six Billion People, and anything else like that!

I recently saw Joe and the band at the Tower Theatre in Upper Darby, Pa. What an incredible show I am 39 years old and played guitar from the time I was 12 to about 27 pretty steady in and out of bands but then marriage and kids took care of that and I stopped playing completely. After seeing Joe play live I was inspired and broke out the old guitar and have not been able to put it down since, the ideas are just pouring out of me. Everything about Joe , his sound ,his phrases, his equipment just oozes cool and inspiration. Thanks Joe for waking up a part of my life that has been asleep for far too long.
