Comic Monkey - Some years ago I had to join a ship in Esmeraldas. The international flight went into Quito where I managed a few days before a domestic flight to Esmeraldas. While I was in Quito there was an electrical storm, thunder and lightning with torrential rain amongst the magnificent peaks. Truly awesome!

Satchiella - Guam is a lump of rock in the middle of nowhere in the Pacific. It is home to a US military base (or at least it used to be). Some nice folks there.

Kiwi girl - AWMAWY is one of Joe's many love songs dedicated to his wife Rubina. I have been amazed by the power of such songs ever since Clapton used Wonderful Tonight to take George Harrison's woman away from him.

Keep rocking

Steve.

Hi Joe,

It is very exciting to even wish that you'll get to actually read this message. I'm from Melbourne, Australia and I've been listening to your music everyday. When I first saw you live last year at the Forum, I thought there's nothing so breathtaking about watching someone like you. I've also seen Steve Vai in 2004 in Melbourne and wondering if you can have your next G3 tour in Australia. This idea was reinforced after I spoke to people I knew, people I met at the Forum last year and specially when I talked to Brett Garsed (my immediate neighbour). Brett Garsed is one of the greatest guitarists in Australia and have played guitar for John Fahrnam for ages. As his music is very much melodic and inspirational as yours, my dream would be to see you, Steve Vai and Bret Garsed play together. It would change many lives in Australia who think G3 is the greatest tour ever to be performed in the history of guitar. We are all waiting for you in Australia......counting days........ Please consider.... Thank you..... Sini

Hey gang,

CroNumber9 - Glad to help out! Now I'm trying to spread the word, which is never easy, but hopefully some people will donate and help out. :) http://www.soundaid.org

Satriella - Nope, I haven't touched the photo section in about a month. I'm waiting to get my other PC back online (by June 5th) so I can add your drawing, too. I've only been able to make text updates since the move, but things are coming together over here, slowly but surely.

How's everyone else doing? I hope well!

$2 bill. Are people really this dumb?

Part One

On my way home from work, I stopped at Taco Bell for a quick bite to eat. In my billfold are a $50 bill and a $2 bill. I figure that with a $2 bill, I can get something to eat and not have to worry about anyone getting irritated at me for trying to break a $50 bill.

Me: "Hi, I'd like one seven-layer burrito please, to go."

Server: "That'll be $1.04. Eat in?"

Me: "No, it's to go." At this point, I open my billfold and hand him the $2 bill. He looks at it kind of funny.

Server: "Uh, hang on a sec, I'll be right back."

He goes to talk to his manager, who is still within my earshot.

The following conversation occurs between the two of them: Server: "Hey, you ever see a $2 bill?" Manager: "No. A what?"

Server: "A $2 bill. This guy just gave it to me."

Manager: "Ask for something else There's no such thing as a $2 bill." Server: "Yeah, thought so"

He comes back to me and says, "We don't take these. Do you have anything else?"

Me: "Just this fifty. You don't take $2 bills? Why?"

Server: "I don't know."

Me: "See here where it says legal tender?"

Server: "Yeah."

Me: "So, why won't you take it?"

Server: "Well, hang on a sec."

He goes back to his manager, who has been watching me like I'm a shoplifter, and says to him, "He says I have to take it." Manager: "Doesn't he have anything else?! "

Server: "Yeah, a fifty. I'll get it and you can open the safe and get change'' Manager: "I'm not opening the safe with him in here."

Server: "What should I do?"

Manager: "Tell him to come back later when he has real money."

Server: "I can't tell him that! You tell him."

Manager: "Just tell him."

Server: "No way! This is weird. I'm going in back."

The manager approaches me and says, "I'm sorry, but we don't take big bills this time of night."

Me: "It's only seven o'clock! Well then, here's a two dollar bill."

Manager: "We don't take those, either."

Me: "Why not?"

Manager: "I think you know why."

Me: "No really, tell me why."

Manager: "Please leave before I call mall security."

Me: "Excuse me?"

Manager: "Please leave before I call mall security."

Me: "What on earth for?"

Manager: "Please, sir."

Me: "Uh, go ahead, call them"

Manager: "Would you please just leave?"

Me: "No."

Manager: "Fine -- have it your way then."

Me: "Hey, that's Burger King, isn't it?"

$2 bill. Are people really this dumb?

Conclusion

At this point, he backs away from me and calls mall security on the phone around the corner. I have two people staring at me from the dining area, and I begin laughing out loud, just for effect. A few minutes later this 45-year-oldish guy comes in.

Guard: "Yeah, Mike, what's up?"

Manager (whispering): "This guy is trying to give me some (pause) funny money."

Guard: "No kidding! What?"

Manager: "Get this .. a two dollar bill."

Guard (incredulous): "Why would a guy fake a two dollar bill?"

Manager: "I don't know. He's kinda weird. He says the only other thing he has is a fifty."

Guard: "Oh, so the fifty's fake!"

Manager: "No, the two dollar bill is."

Guard: "Why would he fake a two dollar bill?"

Manager: "I don't know! Can you talk to him, and get him out of here?"

Guard: "Yeah."

Security Guard walks over to me and......

Guard: "Mike here tells me you have some fake bills you're trying to use"

Me: "Uh, no."

Guard: "Lemme see 'em."

Me: "Why?"

Guard: " Do you want me to get the cops in here?"

At this point I am ready to say, "Sure, please!" but I want to eat, so I say "I'm just trying to buy a burrito and pay for it with this two dollar bill. I put the bill up near his face, and he flinches like I'm taking a swing at him. He takes the bill, turns it over a few times in his hands, and says, Hey, Mike, what's wrong with this bill?"

Manager: "It's fake."

Guard: "It doesn't look fake to me."

Manager: "But it's a two dollar bill."

Guard: "Yeah?"

Manager: "Well, there's no such thing, is there?"

The security guard and I both look at him like he's an idiot, and it dawns on the guy that he has no clue.

So, it turns out that my burrito was free, and he threw in a small drink and some of those cinnamon thingies, too.

Made me want to get a whole stack of two dollar bills just to see what happens when I try to buy stuff. If I got the right group of people, I could probably end up in jail. You get free food there, too!

Roth predicts Van Halen comeback

DETROIT (Billboard) - Now that he's lost his radio job, David Lee Roth is seeking gainful employment in another capacity -- as lead singer of Van Halen. Again.

"I see it absolutely as an inevitability," says Roth, who was deposed by CBS Radio in late April as one of Howard Stern's replacements. "There's contact between the two camps, and they have legitimate management; Irv Azoff is part of their loop now.

"To me, it's not rocket surgery. It's very simple to put together. And as far as hurt feelings and water under the dam, like what's-her-name says to what's-her-name at the end of the movie 'Chicago' -- 'So what? It's showbiz!' So I definitely see it happening."

Despite that claim, Roth -- who was Van Halen's singer from 1974-1985 -- acknowledges that he hasn't seen Edward Van Halen "in a couple of years." The last time Roth recorded with Van Halen was for the group's "Best Of Van Halen Volume 1" album in 1996, though there have been periodic rumors ever since.

Roth isn't sitting around while he waits for the call, however. He joins the John Jorgensen bluegrass band for two songs -- "Jump" and "Jamie's Cryin' " -- on "Strummin' With the Devil: The Southern Side of Van Halen," a bluegrass-styled tribute to Van Halen. Roth calls it "a detour" as well as "an interesting return ... Before there was rock 'n' roll, there was me and a single guitar, flat pickin' Doc Watson (songs)." Roth plans to make a number of TV appearances on behalf of the album, which comes out June 6.

Roth is also planning to tour later this summer to play Van Halen hits -- "I'm so proud of that music," he says -- favorites from his solo album and covers. He'll leave the banjos and fiddles at home, though.

"I like to bring out the brass section now and the keyboard players and the singers and so forth," Roth explains. "It's probably a little closer to the Rolling Stones' revue than to the early three-piece power trio. But the demand is amazing; I guess I'm lucky enough to be one of those guys now who can point at the map and say 'Let's go here' -- or, rather, my favorite expression, which is 'Let's follow the sun."'

Apart from that, I don't see what's so clever about rocket science. Light touch paper, piss off out of the way, rocket goes up! Job done.

guys - my Ibanez RG7620 Morgan Custom

on me site in the equipment page, if you click on Envy there are pics of the beautiful Morgan Custom body and headstock being modified...

this is going to be the nuts when it's done....

the finish will be an electric blue sunburst over the quilted top..

she's almost done.... it's like waiting for Santa Christmas.. lol..

Slansh - I looked at what that guy was saying... if I read it right, he's implying that the FX loop is after the digital stage.. if that is his thinking... he's talking bollox....
the FX loop is after the compressor and before the overdive... it's placement is therefore spot on...
so I can use the 2120 compressor and then pump a big fat compressed signal into the loop into something like a SansAmp or JMP-1 for example...
that guy talks about a "saturated power tube "... what the fuck?? like the on board unit don't offer enough dirt?? he needs his head testing...
what I do is to hit the compressor first - which is set to compress very very gently] - and use its output gain to really crank up the level.. then I stuff that into the overdrive in it's full saturation setting but with a gain set at only 44%...
this gives tons of dirt that is less fizzy and a tad more respncive to dynamics...
it you want the tone to get fatter still... which I do... I running through the quad detuner and do me trickery in there to emulate the effect of "tracked" guitars...
so my riffing tone live is in fact 5 guitars spread out across the stereo image..
it sounds monsterous.... and in the studio, I simply recreate this the real way by recording the parts one by one [which is actually nicer and more controlable
Yoda - I've sent another mail to "dontspill" justas a test....

Good Morning Satchland...... How Are We Today?

zinc...... Thanks for the info on the Eagles cd release. That's great news. Another great band with great songs. Don Felder is prolly the most underated guitarist in Rock. He's really a great player. Now how'd you eat Taco Bell in between laughing your A double S off?..... Great story. I love it.

Satriella..... Hi Hon. We haven't found anybody yet but we have an audition next week. The band I recorded last week live offered me a position as they made personal chages. There're geeting a lot of offers to play "Cruise Nights". Some areas around Chicago have places where car owners can show there custom street cars. The music the band plays is all 60's stuff from Yardbirds, Beatles, etc. It's perfect music for these events. It'll be a lot of fun. I haven't played with these guys for over 30 yrs. so it's gonna be great playin' togather again. I'll still keep The Blues Mavericks going this is just a fun side project. Hugs.

gottahavejoe..... I hope you check out that issue of Guitar One. It really is a great issue. Good luck to you. Hugs.

Have A Great Day Everyone ! ! !

BTW....Satriella..... You mentioned a Guitar Techniques mag with Joe and Steve Vai. Can you get back issues of this? Have you seen this issue? How is it? Just curious. Hugs

Captain Steve

Very true - should have been brain surgery or rocket science - combining the two didn't make sense.

michelle

I go back and forth on the Eagles - at times I really like them, other times they are like the plague to me (stay away).

I would like to hear NEW music from them, again.

Clarky:I wondered about that. The 2101 i had, the fxs loop was after the comp & pre amp but b4 the fxs so when i read that post i was kinda scratchin the head wondering why that would change with the 2120, he did say HOPEFULLY,lol

here it is

The 2120 has an FX loop, which means that you can insert some form of saturated power tube in the effects loop, hopefully after distortion

He goes on t say this

Alas, the online manual indicates poorer placement of the effects loop than for the 2101

Is that true about the online manual??Sounds t me like he doesnt have the unit, likes t rant bull or maybe both.I would have thought the fx loop being between the comp and pre amp a big plus!

I,m confused

Stevee T:I,m workin on it bud, have 4 tracks rec at mo with no backin, should have 5 in the next 2 or so days.Currently saving cash best i can t buy an apple G4 or G5 with pro tools LE with little success so far, the bills just seem t keep coming ARGH, i,ve birthday prezzies t buy for family etc & having work hassle so the target has moved forward. But hey i,ve got time t practice, jeez whats that, lol

Slansh - I've had numerous chats with Digitech tech-support in the US... they're a top bunch of guys....
according to them.. the 2101 was the most flexible and configurable of the three models... but was not all that user friendly....
the 2112 was simplified to make it more attractive and the 2120 was a sort of "best of both"...
also - and this is interesting - a 2112 with the 2120 upgrade, is exactly the same as a 2120.. it's not an upgrade that takes it close... it is exact...

an FX loop is and always has been to my knowledge a pre-amp feature... normally post dirt and pre power amp...

in the 2120 it is pre dirt.. maybe that's what he's getting all excited about....
normally your digital FX are the last things in the FX chain, so I guess that'd only hurt if you wanted a digital thing in the 2120 FX loop because the return of the loop goes into the overdrive....

but look at it this way and you'll see Digitech's logic...
the digital stage of the 2120 has almost every effect known to man... lol... delays, reverbs, harmonizers etc etc.. a list that is massive... like what could you possibly want to add to it....
so if you felt the need to add something what would you add??
maybe another pre-amp like a Triaxis?? well that'll be fine just as it is..
I do agree that the loop should be the final thing before the noise-gate and therefore the otherside of the over-drive...
but to be honest... I ran my Sansamp through the loop, and the 2120's on board overdrive blows it away...

so I've never found it an issue or a limitation cos I've never had to use it... because everything I've stcuk in the loop turned out to be inferior to what the 2120 had to offer....
and if I did have a Triaxis and I wanted only to exploit the 2120's digital stage... surely the 2120 would be in the Triaxis FX loop not the other way around......

the most important thing is.... that having two 2120's in the same rack... means they may have babies...
so I get lots of free stomp boxes... lol..

Clarky:I recon thats it..to have the fxs loop option b4 the digi preamp is what he was after,i can sympathize with that, even better b4 the comp would be cool.I found the Boss comp although not the best, had a character I couldn’t find with the onboard Digi & the tones of the pre amp couldn’t compare with my old Korg OV1 I had to combine through the fxs loop t suck the tone out my head, even then it didn’t deliver, even when i turned the onboard comp & pre amp off....wierd, now that was after 4 years fuckin around with it!

I had however a friend that had the old studio original fxs part of the unit b4 the 2101 came out “ do you remember that?”& when I combined it with my pedal setup it was ear candy heaven. So I bought the 2101 unit thinking its bound to be able t reproduce the same colours in tone.It fullfilled the fxs side no end, but for the life of me I couldn’t get what I heard b4 through the same 4b 12 marshall i had & its been driving me nuts ever since, lmao

Now maybe I,m getting picky, lol

Slansh - not picky.. I know what you mean....
there is this elusive tone utopia....
you get really really close....
you then change a setting or a unit or amp or something..
and then it's gone forever... lmao....

been there...

on the FX loop thing.. I think it's placement should be programable... because every patch scenario is diferent...
and this should include the digital stage too...
like imagine having a real old analogue delay that you want after the quad-detuner but before the reverb.... and only on your lead / solo guitar patch that you use for ballads...
and in another patch you may want to drop a valve compressor in at the front....

makes sense to me....
