Nike, Apple Team Up on iPod Running Gear

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Nike Inc. and Apple Computer Inc. have teamed up to try to become a runner's best friend.

The two companies announced Tuesday they are jointly developing a wireless system so some Nike shoes embedded with a sensor can communicate with Apple's iPod Nano music player to track a runner's performance and help choreograph songs to the moment.

The Nike+iPod Sport Kit, which will be available in two months at $29, has already won an endorsement from Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong, who plans to run his first New York marathon later this year.

"It will take working out to a whole other level," said Armstrong, who appeared at the companies' news conference in New York City.

The co-branded kit comes with a sensor that fits inside compatible Nike footwear — sold separately — and a wireless receiver that attaches to the iPod.

Data on running time, distance, pace and calories burned would be stored on the iPod, which could then display the information on-screen or deliver it audibly through headphones.

After the workout, the data also could be automatically sent to a personal runner's log at the new nikeplus.com Web site whenever the music player is synchronized to Apple's iTunes program.

The iPod will also incorporate a new "Power Song" feature, so a user can instantly queue up a piece of music for extra motivation at the push of a button.

The $100 Nike+ Air Zoom Moire shoe will be the first footwear designed to talk to the iPod, and more are planned, said Trevor Edwards, Nike's vice president of global brand management.

GROWLER

ANTON SHRED Its a beautiful day in Hawaii bro! Very much enjoyed your last posts. I have a few bass guitars, but my favorite is the old American Fender Jazz, although I just added the new 60th anniversary Precision with twin independent pu's with built in synth. You just merely set your protocol and when ready, punch the volume control. Its cool bruddah. My other bass is a piece of crap. A Tobias Growler which looks fantastic but sounds like crap. My Jazz bass is basically set up like MS of Grand Funk. Remember them? Extreme low Ohms, high compression, fuzz, and sustain. What more can yu ask from a bass. Sounds like you have a great set up buddy. Its too bad we cant get together and jam! Maybe one day. I'm out to California quite a bit.

Seems like the ROACHES (this will be our new anti-troll virus) are out. One of them seems to be injured. One down. Let me explain the crap that FISHBOY has been telling you. When I began posting not long ago FISHHEAD and his roaches disagreed with my views. Of course they did because they are stuck up roaches. Agreed. So he posts this bogus message stating that he has been in touch with the authorities of this website, the T2FGFMTGH. Whatever the hell that is. See, we must understand that this boy is on medication. He is most likely on a antipsychotic med Thorazine. Anyway this COCKROACH threatens to kick me off the site! Then he gives yu this bs about how tolerant he is to other viewpoints on the forum. This is like looking you right in the eye and stabbing you in the back. He is a HIPOcrite of he worst kind. So are his other ROACHES.

Then the troll deal springs up out of his nest of roaches. Sooo, listen to this buddy! Being that this island is so small, its easy to get to know alot of people quickly. Back when I practiced physical therapy I met and treated people from all walks of life. One in particular became a good friend and happens to be the chief prosecutor for the FBI. It just so happens he lives right down the street from me! So he comes over and checks this crap out posted by the ROACH. We sit back and have a good laugh, just like you and I do. Now he explains to me that all of these various agencies (FBI, CIA, S.W.A.T., etc) are all nationally and internationally networked. So I relate this fact to FISHHEAD and let him know that if I am actually denied access to this site, Joe will not have a site. Power and suggestion from the FBI, not me. What are friends for. Anyway, I am still here, and as you can see I'm not a bad dude. Just like everybody else, there are some people we get along with and some we dont. This is a given. You cant be liked by everybody. So there is the story. If it were up to FISHHEAD and the rest of the roaches we would be denied access. But its not up to him. We just keep on truckin dude.

Final note. Its a funny thing. Roaches can withstand tremendous amounts of radiation. I'm sure you know that already Tony, I just want to make a point. Here in Hawaii, and elsewhere they come out at night and eat trash and are disgusting creations. They spread diseases and multiply like rats. Some even fly. But man, when you catch them in the light standing still one sharp slap of the shoe and they are history.

I checked out the websites man. Fantastic! I have a few friends from Brazil and they know of Gustavo well. They knew him early on, and when they checked out his videos, they were in shock. They are still talking about him and for good reason. Tony, Aloha to you buddy. Oh, Cosmic Ape is from Central America. A good man. Dont know Delfino Pie though. Did you hear Cosmic's acoustic? He's great! Laters...............G OUT

Delfino, yeah I think they're in Liverpool dude....that'd be enough to put me off applying even if I did have the credentials! haha. Ooh that's harsh, I'm just kidding (honest)

js1200js1000, it's cool to see such positivity in your post bro, it seems like you're really keen to start with your studies! Keep in touch with your t2j family, keep us posted on how you get on! And yeah, thanks, I can't wait to see Joe again!
Suzie, good luck on thursday, I hope your interviewers are impressed! If you feel like you're flagging a little, sing at them, that should impress them ;-)
the_devil_666, unfortunately, the value is not something you really want to be asking about! I'd expect it to be not-quite-equal to what it cost you to do all that work :-( But I could be wrong, if you're lucky you might just make your money back.
ovation1, nice one bro, I'd be really interested in your insight! No problem if you're too busy to throw much time at it though, I know you're a busy dude!
Hrh Fish, I think I'm row D in the circle, somewhere a bit off-centre, right I think, but I could be wrong! Yeah, e-mail me nearer the time and I'll let you know whether or not I'm free to meet with people....I might be busy with my family!
If memory serves, there was discussion a few weeks ago about Eric Johnson's new DVD and what it's like?

I can thoroughly recommend it. Get EJ's Hot Licks Total Electric Guitar DVD along with his Hal Leonard Fine Art Of Guitar title and you'll be sitting on a really powerful resource.

I thoroughly enjoyed both DVD's, the only downside to the whole experience being that I now have an uncontrollable desire to buy a Fender Eric Johnson Strat 'cause it is SO nice :-p'

have a good week folks...

Gotta Have Joe, Try using a metronome and set it at about 40 to 60 bpm. Use the G major scale and do open string starting at the second fret then third fret, fifth, seventh, etc. When you can play that smoothly then just simply increase the bpm say by increments of 10 or so. A drum machine would work also. When you pick just use alternate down up down up. Hit the note and then pick three open E notes before going to the next fret. I learned that exercise from Troy Stetina and it can increase picking speed tremendously. Chromatic exercises also work great for the picking hand. Again, set the metronome slow and build speed when you are smooth. I hope that helps. Joe, come to Guam please!!! If you all get a chance check out my tunes at www.myspace.com/homeguitarist I love my JS 1000 and JSX combo

Reason 3.0 is pretty easy to use, theres a few tutorials out there on the net to get beginners going and they give you the low down on all the different features and functions and how to use them etc...I highly recommend it. With artists such as Mushroomhead and The Prodigy using it to make their music I don't see how anyone could go wrong with splashing out about £200 on it.

Cool Edit Pro 2, or Adobe Audition as its now know, is equally as awesome. Its a straight to the point multitrack recorder that has a wide array of effects. Very straight forward and easy to use.

I basically improvise on my guitar and come up with a riff, I then record it, import it into reason and find the time signature and tempo that its actually at then I create some empty bars and with a drum kit hi-hat I create a metronome for writing rhythm, leads etc...

After that I make a drum beat using either custom kits I've made myself or the default kits that ship with Reason. Then comes the fun bit of adding all the quirky electronica style noises, synths, keys etc...I find when a song comes together and starts sounding good to me I can't stop its just too much fun, I wish I was a better guitarist so I could get my ideas down better and had more 'tools' to play with.

DCK

Cheers dude, I'll have a better mix of it done by the end of the week *fingers crossed* at the moment I feel the volume can be a bit all over the place and some of the rhythm parts are a bit thin, but those are easily fixed :-), thanks for listening.

Yeah, Liverpool...er...I'd rather not cheers...Birmingham's not much better, but Liverpool has more of a reputation as being a shit hole.

Sorry to any scousers on the board, but face facts its not paradise.

gotta have Joe If you want to get your picking faster, try this...it works, and also works for your fretboard fingers when working on speed and accuracy.

Obviously, start off slow and build speed. You don't even need to have a chord or note(s) being fretted, you can just mute the strings with your fretboard hand. I mute the strings. Start simple - one strum every 4 beats, 2, 1... then 8th notes, 16th, and so on. The key, play all (from one strum every 4 beats all the way to 64ths) at the SAME tempo. Raise the tempo gradually. You don't even need a metronome, just tap you foot at a constant rate. I hope I explained it alright, it's a lot easier to show than say. I was actually working on my picking hand today, working on Dream Theater's 'Overture 1928', make sure I can play the rhythm and leads perfectly. Need any help, just let me know.

Matt King I know where Toms River Music is, I live literally 2 minutes away from the place (I live right behind the mall). What type of style is your music? I was going to see your band and a few others earlier this year, Mari told me about the 'Lord of the Strings' but I got sick that weekend out of nowhere for the 1st time in a while. I'll email you later. I'm working on Dream Theater's 'Overture 1928' right now, a friend wants to record the song...the whole song is pretty much guitar, he's got nothing to do for it! And, I gotta record a solo for DT's 'As I Am' for the 2nd time, he screwed something up, so I gotta put another solo in. talk to you later.

Satriella, sorry about delay...just check in from time to time. Well...can see how 'chompy' means 'damn tasty' but for me the whole Chompy thing is a bit of an old-joke-that-stuck-to-the-extent-that-even-my-sis's-kids-call-me-'Uncle Chompy'!!! What I really wanted to say was that Joe will blow you away if it is your first Satch gig! Am going to meet Joe at last as have purchased a package!! Yahoo! Now, the best thing about this is that I am going to meet him with my fiancee Lily....there's a long story behind this....wanna hear it?? Ok then...I was married to a cow who left me after 10 years of my running around after her every need. 1 day, 11 years ago, I asked her to come to see Satch with me and she ruined the evening by sitting down and saying she was bored,....get this...just as Satch started playing Flying in a Blue Dream!! Now I have met Lily...been with her for 3 years....a truly beautiful person....we get married in August..and she is totally up for meeting Joe..even though she loves R and B!!....what a turn-around...Life is good. Enjoy the show Satriella...you will LOVE it!! Vinnie/Keith/Joe etc www.davincimusic.co.uk

[br Heya, I just read Guitarmeisters post about picking speed, I agree a metronome is not always necessary but if you ever need a good metronome program on your computer so you can just sit and practice for hours on end (or, like me...until the clicks drive you insane) then try

Type metronome in the search thingy-ma-bob

Thats if you don't already have one lol.
