ovation1, aww don't worry about it bro! I'll be building a new computer within the next week, then I'll be able to get broadband, and then it's all groovy 'cause I can get those GP files, and should be able to get a copy of GP off one of my students! Thanks though dude, I really appreciate your help!

I noticed your post about Bryan Beller; he was playing bass for Vai at the second Aching Hunger show in Holland!

Satriella, ah wicked. A six month intensive course sounds....ummm....intense!

The Black Crowes

The Black Crowes will issue The Lost Crowes, a two-CD compilation featuring many previously unavailable tracks, on Aug. 29.

The collection will include 26 songs from the sessions that produced 1993's Tall and 1997's Band, a pair of albums that never were officially released by the band.

Meanwhile, a DVD version of the Crowes' 1992 concert video, Who Killed Your Bird Out on That Windowsill, will hit stores the same day.

THE DOCTOR VISIT

Patient says, "Doc you must check my leg. Something's wrong. Just put your ear up to my thigh, you'll hear it."

The doctor cautiously places his ear to the man's thigh only to hear,"Give me $10. I'm desperate. I need $10."

"I've never seen or heard anything like this before. How long has this been going on?" the doctor asked.

"That's nothing, Doc. Put your ear to my knee."

The doctor put his ear to the man's knee and heard it say, "Please. I really need $5. Just $5. Please. I'm desperate."

"Sir, I really don't know what to tell you. I've never seen anything like this." The doctor was truly dumbfounded.

"Wait, Doc, that's not all of it. There's more. Just put your ear down on my ankle," the man urged him.

The doctor did as the man said and was amazed to hear his ankle plead, "Please, I just need $20. Please lend me $20, please. I am really desperate."

"I have no idea what to tell you," the doctor said. There's nothing about it in any of my books," he said as he frantically searched all his medical reference books.

"However... I can make a well-educated guess. Based on life and all my previous experiences, I can tell you with some certainty, that your leg seems to be broke in three places."

Mold in Outdated Pancake Mix Causes Acute Allergic Reaction

Netlore Archive: Email flier quotes a 'Dear Abby' column in which a parent describes her 14-year-old son's severe allergic reaction to mold in outdated pancake mix

Description: Email flier

Circulating since: April 2006

Status: True

DEAR ABBY: I recently made a batch of pancakes for my healthy 14-year-old son, using a mix that was in our pantry. He said that they tasted "funny," but ate them anyway. About 10 minutes later, he began having difficulty breathing and his lips began turning purple. I gave him his allergy pill, had him sit on the sofa and told him to relax. He was wheezing while inhaling and exhaling.

My husband, a volunteer firefighter and EMT, heated up some water, and we had my son lean over the water so the steam could clear his chest and sinuses. Soon, his breathing became more regular and his lips returned to a more normal color.

We checked the date on the box of pancake mix and, to my dismay, found it was very outdated. As a reference librarian at an academic institution, I have the ability to search through many research databases. I did just that, and found an article the next day that mentioned a 19-year-old male DYING after eating pancakes made with outdated mix. Apparently, the mold that forms in old pancake mix can be toxic!

When we told our friends about my son's close call, we were surprised at the number of people who mentioned that they should check their own pancake mix since they don't use it often, or they had purchased it some time ago. With so many people shopping at warehouse-type stores and buying large sizes of pancake mix, I hope your readers will take the time to check the expiration date on their boxes. -- SUE IN WYANTSKILL, N.Y.

DEAR SUE: Thank you for the warning. I certainly was not aware that pancake mix could turn moldy and cause an allergic reaction in someone with an allergy to mold -- but it's logical. I wonder if the same holds true for cake mix, brownie mix and cookie mix. If so, then a warning should be placed on the box for people like me.

We hear so often about discarding prescription and over-the-counter medications after their expiration dates, but I don't recall warnings about packaged items in the pantry. Heads up, folks!

Comments: This "Dear Abby" column was published in newspapers in April 2006. The story checks out. As Abby's correspondent mentions, her son's allergic reaction to the "funny-tasting" pancakes she fed him matches a case reported in the September 2001 issue of the American Journal of Forensic Medicine and Pathology in which a 19-year-old male with mold allergies died of anaphylactic shock after consuming pancakes made from an outdated mix.

Note that in both cases, the patient experiencing the attack had specific allergies pertaining to food molds.

These molds can grow in all kinds of food products, not just baking mixes, bacteriologist Chris Atkinson notes in an article in The Hub Weekly, so it behooves consumers to monitor the expiration dates on packaged foods across the board. Since not all food molds are visible to the naked eye or detectable by smell, nor are the mycotoxins they produce eliminated by cooking, Atkinson recommends a better-safe-than-sorry approach and shares several helpful tips for preventing mold contamination of food in the home.

Hey Joe Congrats on an excellent new album. "Redshift riders" is like a new "Flying in a Blue Dream", in fact all the songs on this album are like "Flying...". Anyways do you have any plans to come to Ireland in the near future on a tour or with G3? I'd gladly go to some of the dates in England but I have exams. Thanks

GROWLER I saw the RG vs. Kimo fight a couple months ago, Spike TV has been playing a lot of UFC lately, one day was nothing but Gracie's fights. Pride Fighting is good too, they have a lot of bigger guys and a few older UFC guys. I missed the Ultimate Fighter last night. The thing I don't like about these shows, all these guys do a ton of talking and then get in the octagon and then lose confidence or something... a lot of the fights on the past seasons (especially this season) have been pretty bad. Frank and Tito once it's over... I'm going with Tito, I think Frank should/better be doing some catching up with his technique. One of my favorites is Tim Sylvia, he's a BEAST! That's one guy I'd never want to get mad.

Fish, Michelle, 962 - The whole accent thing is cool. I remember an interview with Jody Foster, where she was talking about the French accent and how, like London, she could tell what part of Paris people grew up in by the way they talked. Here on the west coast the most obvious accent is the LACK of accent that we have. When you here people in movies or on national news, unless they are trying to portray a specific region, have a west caost sound. Where the regionallities (word?) are taken out. I addition to the accent is the use of language and just how two people who speak the same language, English, could easily not understand each other. What's a quid? Very cool stuff.

Guitarmeister: Hey dude, I agree on the fights. A lot of them aren't that great on the show, including last night. Matt, (Tito's pet), who' s supposed to be the winner, fought Mike, and it was very lackluster on both sides. Matt won but looked very, very sloppy, as did Mike too. Of course, Matt had to abandon his wrestling game and stand up, due to an arm injury during the pre-fight training that week. I think he hyperextended his right arm. As far as the coaches, you're talking about Ken Shamrock, not little brother Frank. I don't know about that one, the last fight they fought when Tito won, Ken was fighting with a torn Anterior Cruciate ligament. I had the same injury before and it's very nasty and takes a lot of time to rehab from. And the fight went all three rounds. So having said that, I'm not sure if Tito can win again. When he fought Forrest Griffin in UFC 59, he won by decision and that was hard to believe. He won the first round, but looked really winded after that, and Forrest looked better and better. I think Forrest should have won myself, think he would have knocked out Tito if it went any longer. Anyway, that was weird, cause Tito is known to have a really good cardio game in the past and in that fight he didn't. As far as the show goes, I really like Tito a lot more as a coach. He works his guys much more intelligently and dilligently than Shamrock has. He knows how to get in Ken's head too. I want Tito to win because of the way he is with his guys and all, should be good. I also think that Andre is going to put Tim Silvia down this time too. They both have a win now, and it should be good, barring nothing happens too early to one or the other. I think Andre is in better shape and has a better, more rounded game than Tim. Tim has that awesome reach, but seems a tad goofy and doesn't move that well in the ring. Who knows, it should be good. I think the best fighters on the show are as follows: Middleweights: Kendall Grove, and Kaleb Starnes the Hawaiin bra. Light Heavies: I like Michael Bisping the British lad to win the whole thing, very smart and very good skills with a lot of power. Nice guy too. Anyway, those are my predictions, ANYONE ELSE HAVE ANY? Later guitarmeister, Anton

Growler: Hey man how's it? Yeah what an insult to Royce and the family huh? You are right on the money on "Mayhem" Miller. This guy is very, very tough. I'm glad he won that fight recently and hope to see him back in the UFC soon. Last time I saw him fight was with Georges St. Pierre in April I think. Yeah this kid is 6'1 without an ounce of fat on him anywhere. The fight was great and went to the decision after three rounds. Great submission skills, can get out of almost anything on the ground. I think George is the premier fighter in welterweights though save Matt Hughes. Jason is right there though, what a heart this guy has. Cool you saw Kimo, man that guy is big huh? As far as the family, thanks for the offer but like I said her family is from and still lives in Hawaii. She's Hawaiin and Japanese, and they're all set staying at her aunts and all. Her grandpa owned like half a block of downtown district I guess. Anyhow, thanks for the postive vibes, had a killer supersetted arm workout with a bro yesterday during little ones nap at 12:00. Now I'm thinkin work out at naptime and do treadmill in morning and bike with the girl after nap every other day. Weights 4 times a week, Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri. And a quick 30 min run in the morning 4-5 times a week, plus the bike. I gained weight after the kid was born, had an arm injury too that was a bitch to go away(6 mos.) it's been a bit depressing but I'm coming back now. So Aloha Brah and enjoy the water for me. later Growlza, Anton

Anton Shred Yea, I was talking about Ken Shamrock the whole time, I don't think I've ever seen Frank fight. Andre is a great fighter, can't wait for the next fight with Andre and Sylvia. Tim definitely does wobble around in the octagon, but he's a huge guy, very powerful. I remember seeing one fight where out of nowhere he threw a head kick, didn't look like he put that much effort into it either, and knocked the guy out. He really connected with that kick though, dead on. About the Ultimate Fighter, Matt does look like he's got some good wrestling skills, but after seeing the one episode where the other guys actually put alittle mroe effort into training with Matt - Matt got kicked in the head and I think elbowed in the head too - 1st time he's ever really been hit, he took 4 days off and was pretty out of it, he thought he had a broken jaw or something... I was thinking his fight in the octagon would be a wake up call. I missed the show last night, but wasn't expecting it to be a good fight. All the guys want it so bad, but looks like they lose confidence and get alittle scared when they get in there, if I was in their shoes - go hard or go home, you're there to possible make a dream come true, why waste it!? They have Tito, Ken, and the other guys yelling stuff out that they can clearly hear, most of them barely use the advice?!

-I either have some recording to do (waiting for a call), if not I'm getting alittle sleep, lol, it's 1:23 PM right now... I'm pretty tired though, busy week.
