Slanshroom- thanks for the computer warning- but it's all virus-free on my Mac... sorry you got a virus though, hope the pics didn't cause it. I think it more likely to be from a music download site, don't know... when I used to have a PC that was where the probs always seemed to start.
Cap Steve- I was in the chat last night but must have checked out before you were there... C.I. Holmes
Zenfish- lol definitely pizza for Matt... we will see you again one day!

On the Frank/Steve point. You listen to those two clips that Zen posted then listen to Flexable ...
Can you hear the influence?

Good Afternoon Satchland..... Simply A Gorgeous Day In Chicago. How Are you Today?
Water Proof Soap..... Some nice words about Kayla. Yeah, we're all kinda stuck on her....lol...... That was Cool of you.
OPCS470...... Nice Vid. Did your keyboardist happen to see the vid on Billy Preston sing "That's The Way God Planned It" from The Concert For Bangla Desh posted last week?...lol..... Really you all played well. That's a great song. Congrats on the Jemfest Gig.
Have A Great Day Everyone ! ! !
Edit..... Civgeek.... Flexable is one of my favorite CD's. "Call It Sleep" is unbelievable. Best song for Whammy Bar techniques ever. Plus you have a very young Stu Hamm and Chad Wakerman on there. Spectacular playing. Ohh ! ! ! Can't forget "The Attitude Song". I have that also as Guitar Player Song Page when Vai was commin' up. Remember those?

I'll tell ya ZEN there is clearly one of the true musical geniuses of our time......rest well frank.
as to the influence on steve vai...............its SO obvious
and has been for those of us who have been listeners/fans
of Frank Zappa......and Mr. Vai has made ample statements to that effect!!!!
While on the subject matter of genius .......just wanted to make sure and give the "NOD OF APPROVAL" to the following:
The Mahavishnu Orchestra
Return to Forever
and all the respective members of those groups who went on to create music that not only displays the virtuosity they posess as instrumentalists............but the true genius of composition and form!!!!!!
Peace..............................................John

SILLY JOKE someone just sent me...
A letter was left on the dining room table.
My Dear Wife,
You will surely understand that I have certain needs that your 54 year old body can no longer supply. I am very happy with you and I value you as a good wife. Therefore, after reading this letter, I hope that you will not wrongly interpret the fact that I will be spending the evening with my 18 year old secretary at the Comfort Inn Hotel. Please don't be perturbed.
I shall be back home before midnight.
When he came home, he found the following letter on the dining room table:
My Dear Husband,
I received your letter and thank you for your honesty. I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that you are also 54 years old.
At the same time I would like to inform you that while you read this, I will be at the Hotel Fiesta with Michael, my tennis coach who, like your secretary, is also 18 years old.
As a successful businessman and with your excellent knowledge of math, you will understand that we are in the same situation, although with one small difference: 18 goes into 54 a lot more times than 54 goes into 18!
Therefore, I will not be back before lunchtime tomorrow.

right on the money with the P&W album.......Vai actually commented on becoming aquainted with re-harmonization thru his experience with FZ.....he was reffering to the "Liberty" cut off of P&W................
btw.........its really awesome to be reading posts and gaining new insights from musicians who truly appreciate geniuses rather than icons..........
one more expression of thanks:..........Rest peacefully Jaco Pastorious
Peace.....................................John

ZIPLOC OMELETES
QUICK & MESSLESS
NO TURNING & MIGHTY GOOD EATIN'
This works great !!! Good when you're alone or when all your family is together.
Best feature is that no one has to wait for their special omelet !!!
Have guests write their name on a quart-size Ziploc freezer bag with permanent marker.
Crack 2 eggs (large or extra-large) into the quart size Ziploc bag (not more than 2) shake
to combine them.
Put out a variety of ingredients such as: cheeses, ham, onion, green
pepper, tomato, hash browns, salsa, etc.
Each guest adds prepared ingredients of choice to their bag and shake.
Make sure to get the air out of the bag and zip it up.
Place the bags into rolling, boiling water for exactly 13 minutes . You
can usually cook 6-8 omelets in a large pot. For more, make another pot
of boiling water.
Open the bags and the omelet will roll out easily. Be prepared for
everyone to be amazed.
Nice to serve with fresh fruit and coffee cake; everyone gets involved
in the process and a great conversation piece.
Imagine having these ready the night before, and putting the bag in
boiling water while you get ready. And in 13 minutes, you have a nice
omlette for a quick breakfast!!!
