Finally took delivery of my Peavey JSX slanted cab and have had a chance to try out my JSX head. Awesome! :o)

I had to wait for 6 months for it to arrive but it was worth the wait.

I was told by Peavey not to expect it until the end of Jan '07 so thanks Joe if you had a hand in speeding it up! :0)

Clean channel is beautiful, ultra is crazy and crunch is full and rich. Now I just have to try taking a line out from the cab to see how it records without a mic. Very cool!

Thanks Joe for helping to develop such a great piece of kit.

Please hurry back over to the UK. Even my 12 year old is getting withdrawal symptoms... and he's a drummer! :o)

MarimariSRV & Stevee T I'll see what I can do. I have two more weeks left until the end of this semester. So, I might be able to make it. Would be cool to meet up with you guys.

Just got back, I was a witness to an accident. The car right in front of me made a left turn without even looking for oncoming traffic. A guy and his wife heading to AC skidded and t-boned their car. Luckily, the didn't try to swerve around the idiot, or they would have hit me head on. Since I've moved, I see at least 2 accidents a week. Horrible drivers over here.

Kenico - you're totally right.. and that's exactly what turned me onto Joe's playing right from the start... not the technique stuff, but his musical intuition... that unquantifyable 6th sense...
one of my fave tracks of all time is War..
the first section, despite the "up" vibe is very lyrical.. the note density is low, yet there is stiff a great intensity to the melody due to the very astute combination of note selection, and where / when to introduce bending and vibrato..
then in the final section the solo with the cocked wah is just blistering and the intensity rises even more.....
this song has it all for me.... great control, lyrical melodies, and then a real tear up at the end....
understanding this song's key compositional and performance attributes, was a milestone moment for me...
War changed my approach to my own compositional and playing style forever....
and then on the same album there is Crying... what greater contrast is there....

So what did I learn from Joe??????

- passion and emotion lead the way... - technique is simply the delivery mechanism..

killer lessons I'd say...
and that's why the "wow" factor simply does not wear off...

MikeSB - I totally know what you mean about the "mid-tempo nightmares"... lmao....
why??????
cos live, I have to play some of Fripp's King Crimson music when I'm out and about with the David Cross Band...
and that stuff just don't fall nice under the fingers for ya... you have to go chase it down and make it happen....
those notes are there simply because that's how it goes... not because that was the most convenient path to a faster lick... and that... is a huge difference...
in that sense Fripp and Schenker are not unalike...
I'm a huge Schenker fan myself....
there's a peculiar "scream" to his style... and it has nothing to do with his tone.... it's about his intensity and delivery... a full-on player...
and funnily enough, another player along with Joe that had a massive influence on me...

now a player to check out is our own Slansh....
cos his stuff is a total nightmare to play at 1/4 the speed that he actually plays it....
way to furious and way too fast... lmao...
don't you just hate that???? lol....

Mikey - "My thoughts exactly, although I think Mike has very bad technique...."
hmmmm ... well his technique seems pretty phenominal to me... for me personally, the bad part is not his playing but his approach....
but I've been thinking about this.... he's sort of set him self up for this... because now his fans simply expect it of him...
I'm wondering if he's painted himself into a corner and cut off any avenues to express himself differently....
but Petrucci with DT is not the same... their music covers a massive range of dynamics and vibes.... so he certainly has the scope available to demonstrate his full range in the same way Joe can... I guess he simply chooses not to...
which I think is a crying shame, cos JP is simply an all-round monster in every department....
personally, I think he should set out to prove less, and express more... and no matter what, his jaw-dropping ability would always shine though.....
but then... I guess.... who am I to judge.....??? lmao..

mthead101 glad u liked the song..

Juiced_765 Welcome to the site yes you can download them as an mp3 so no probs there enjoy

Clarky

G'day clarky, con grats on your cd.. mate I agree with you on John Petrucci, He really stood out as an awsome player and has a vibe on stage, but he doesnt seem to express himself much, like Joe or Steve do when there playing, I dunno if its shyness or what, he did move around sometimes with Dave on bass,(at the horden in sydney) Id still like more interaction with the crowd.. its how Steve and Joe grab u from the moment they come out. when I used to play live with my bands, I used to love to intereactt with the guys, not to show off or pretend to be like Joe, but just to have a good time and enjoy the moment..
