Learning the notes on the fretboard as Blue_Moon said is definetely the most important thing. Now the way you choose to do this depends on you mostly.I learned the fretboard through modes. It got me familiar with the sound of each note and then I sat down to see which note is which.Joe is a pro user of modes...goes from one to another before you know it!

Oh and I highly recomend learning both modes and scales on each string linear...in my opinion it's much better than just going down/up scales on one position.

Hey everybody my name is stefano im new and i live in the UK i been playing guitar for about 9 months now and ever since i started playin i explored new music genres and came across joe satriani (even though i heard of him before i always stayed focused on one genre of music before i played guitar). Definately someone who i respect alot and very talented. My main aim as a guitarist is to be able to play similar speed and technique that joe has. The only problem is that since i have been playin for just 9 months i am struggling with developing the whole shredding speed. I was just wondering if anyone (including joe if you have time) could help me out with ways that i could achieve my goals (i.e. is there certain excersices that i should do coz at the moment i just go up and down the fret board with a metronome. Any help from you guys and joe would be great. P.s. joe you are a god on the guitar ;)

Slan the Man

Hello Roy, sorry for not getting back to you sooner but i've been on hols in Lanzagrotty. Chuffin hot!

I'm afraid the wee scamp hasn't been doing too much practising lately but he did have a little jam with the owner/main performer in a music bar we went to a few times. He had a play on a 110 year old mandolin (beautiful instrument, sweet sound). He also had a go on a limited edition acoustic (can't remember the name but I think it was made in Canada) worth well over six thou sterling.

I should be still home for a good month and half, mebbe a bit longer.

How's the music coming along? Still digging the new job?

Oh yeah, a quick Q. Where did Clarkus Maximus first get the nickname 'Lucifer'?

Steve.

Good Morning Satchland........How R We Today?

gruskada......Thanks !!! Much appreciated. Our son Sean did that for our 25th wedding anniversary 3 yrs. ago. It's to scale. He took tracing paper and trace the cd cover and projected that image on the wall. Than trace that and carefully outlined the lines. Home Depot color coded the paint to the exact colors. It took about 21/2 months to complete. Take Care.

Satriella..... How are You? How's your sketches commin' along? Joe's the best. I met Mick in the lobby at the Congress Theater in Chicago for G3 2007. When I introduced myself and Cindy. Mick knew exactly who we were from the mural and appoligized for not being able to sign the mural this time through. We met Joe after the show going to his bus with Dave LaRue and Mike Manning. When I indroduced us to Joe and before I could say anything else Joe said " I'm sorry we can't sigh your mural this time through. We've all seen it and it's awesome. Sometime when we have time in between shows and the schedule permitts we'll come out to sign it." I was like shetting in my pants. Gave Joe a big hug and told thanks for the great music and all he does for the fans. He's the best there is....no dout. And it's not because he may sigh our mural. Joe is the man. He'd do this for anyone and like I said in yestarday's post. This is what's sets Joe a part from everyone else. Joe did not forget where he came from.....and I think that's great. Hugs (sorry for the rant)

BTW.....The drummer sitch was just a bump in the road. I really thought we found a musicial brother. Let's just say some poeple are snakes. They lay in the grass waiting for that time to strike.......we'll leave it at that.

Amin K...... How long does it take to find a good drummer ? That's a very good question in which I don't have the answer . There's so many variables....... Talent? Right place at the right time? Luck ? I guess you just keep searching untill one comes along that you can work with. That's the key..... You spend years perfecting your instrument. When you have the chops the hardest thing is finding the right blend of musicians to play with. It's never gonna be perfect cuz there's to many personalities to deal with. You just have to find that blend that understands the real picture and is willing to work through it all when what they want is not what the band wants or needs. It's hard. But you can't give up cuz the music inside.......dies and doesn't that defeat the purpose of being a musician? Sorry.....I'm ranting again.......

Have A Great Day Everyone

Edit.....Mike .... AHHHHH ! ! ! ! Southern Rock. I love it. Thanks for the vid on The Henry Paul Band. The Outlaws......Hurry Sundown record is still one of may favorite guitar records. Those guys played there asses off. Some of the best guitar ever recorded. Take Care
