~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hello to all my fellow Satchlanders ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have returned from a brief hiatus and it is good to see many of you still posting. Hey out to Michelle, StevieT, Cuth, Zenfish, Satriella, JS1000/1200, Stans, and Bake The Duck (er, I mean cubie).
If we are naming a new album I vote for something physics-related.....
how about The Singularity?
Solutions to the equations of general relativity or another theory of gravity (such as supergravity), often result in encountering points where the metric blows up to infinity. However, many of these points are in fact completely regular. Moreover, the infinities are merely a result of using an inappropriate coordinate system at this point. Thus, in order to test whether there is a singularity at a certain point, one must check whether at this point diffeomorphism invariant quantities (i.e. scalars) become infinite. Such quantities are the same in every coordinate system, so these infinities will not "go away" by a change of coordinates.
An example is the Schwarzschild solution which describes a non-rotating, uncharged black hole. In coordinate systems convenient for working in regions far away from the black hole, a part of the metric becomes infinite at the event horizon. However, spacetime at the event horizon is regular. The regularity becomes evident when changing to another coordinate system (such as the Kruskal coordinates), where the metric is perfectly smooth. On the other hand, in the center of the black hole, where the metric becomes infinite as well, the solutions suggest singularity exists. The existence of the singularity can be verified by noting that the square of the Riemann tensor, RìíñóRìíñó, which is diffeomorphism invariant, is infinite. While in a non-rotating black hole the singularity occurs at a single point in the model coordinates, called a "point singularity," in a rotating black hole, also known as a Kerr black hole, the singularity occurs on a ring (a circular line), defined as a "ring singularity." Such a singularity may also theoretically become a wormhole. More generally, a spacetime is considered singular if it is geodesically incomplete, meaning that there are freely-falling particles whose motion cannot be determined at a finite time at the point of reaching the singularity. For example, any observer below the event horizon of a nonrotating black hole would fall into its center within a finite period of time. The simplest Big Bang cosmological model of the universe contains a causal singularity at the start of time (t=0), where all timelike geodesics have no extensions into the past. Extrapolating backward to this hypothetical time 0 results in a universe of size 0 in all spatial dimensions, infinite density, infinite temperature, and infinite space-time curvature.
...OK ...ok ... I know... you are all saying "Thank you, Stephen Frickin' Hawking!"
Just don't get me started on the next quantum idea I have for a new Joe album title, String Theory
Cool beans. Anyway, keep rockin', everybody! Joe is law! PEACE!
Hey, Joe and everyone. I'm Dragon and I'm new to the site. I discovered Joe's music about two years ago and I've been creatively inspired every time I hear one of his songs.
Anyway, I look forward to interacting with everyone here on the site, so hello!
Hey Joe - excited to hear you're back in the studio! Can't wait to hear what comes out of it. Anyway, in light of your comment about not having a working name for the new album I was wondering what kind of feel this one's going to have. Throwing out some suggestions might be fun - especially if there was an overall idea, a vibe you were going for that we could all track with. Anything you could give us? What kind of thoughts have been a theme for you in this project? Love to hear from you if you get a moment! BTW - I've been a fan for YEARS - but haven't frequented the website much lately so my name won't stand out - maybe that'll change...
ok i'm new so iunno if this is where i should post this but yea
a few days ago i read the bulleton that said new project title idea's where welcomed...well im sure i could figure out somthing that would be desirable...but i dont know the feel or theme of the album in progress...so maybe if joe could give a ruff description of what he's got so far or plans to have about the feel of it and then it would be a lot easier....
also when you go on tour again you should come to tennessee and alret me...i always miss you and Vai and Malmsteen like buy a few days evertime one of you has been remotely close to where i can make it...it sucks
Hey all, check this out I accidentally found this on YouTube.
Joe Satriani at the 2002 Montreux Jazz Festival playing Mind Storm live!
Never heard it live before, and this is no fan video, this real time Montreux Jazz Festival video.
Anyone know why Joe didn't release this one? Its freakin' awesome! I'd love to see the full concert. Plus, how did this guy get his hands on this great piece of video?
Thoughts? Meditations? Cool Comments?
WhammyFreak.
WhammyFreak, as far as I understand, they record all the Montreux shows for t.v. over there, so yes, it is a professional recording. I have a bootleg with Joe's entire 2000 and 2002 concerts on it, so it's possible to obtain a copy if you watch places like ebay or get to know other fans interested in trading boots. The shows are great, he even does Clouds Race Across the Sky, it's a gorgeous piece of music :) He does New Last Jam, and Seven String too....quite a few from Strange Beautiful Music in the 2002 show.
I LOVE IT!!
HI JOE, HOWS RECORDING GOING?? Hugs :)
whammyfreak, geeezuz, joseph, and maryjane - thanks for the vid!! That was just what I needed today! They put so much stank on that tune it's not even right. lol! Now I have to go look thru my lil' stack of prezzies and see which Joe flick I wanna watch. Coolies baby!
T-Bones, yer so fulla Satch info it's redickerous! lol! Ppl. make fun of me because I know so much about him. Imagine if I could retain all the technical stuffs too! lol! Me lil' brain ain't that big though, plus it's fulla all sorts of things that should have been deleted years ago. It does however, hold all the important stuff like ya can't lick yer elbow, and the distance from yer wrist to yer elbow is how big yer foot is. Dunno what I would do without those chunks of information.
Hey, I'm not just another perty face...
edit: so much for a Satch vid. The band is here, and they're loud as hell. lol! Gad damn kids and their racket *shakes fist to the sky*. LOL! They're working on a new song, so we all know how those days go. lol! Start/stop, start/stop.....same part over and over. lol! They'll have it sounding great in a hour. Good times.
