Happy Sunday Satchland......

Clarky.......Thanks for your response. I did the research cuz I wanted to know if what I was doing was wrong or right. I wanted to break a bad habit if I had one. From this I realized no bad habits. This is great news cuz now I can move forword and not spend time correcting something I possibly was doing wrong. I find my picking style is a little of both. Alternate and Alternitive. I lean more toward Alternitve but sometimes do Alternate picking. You mentioned " Do whatever it takes to play the lick". That's exactly what my approch is but thought with this hybrid stuff going on with my picking technique that I was doing something wrong and wanted to correct it NOW ! ! ! I'm really focusing on this more than ever as I want to build speed and do sweep arps. I don't want to be a Metal or Neo Classical guitarist I just what to flawlesssly exicute these techniques and use them when I feel it. As for Timbre.....I really don't make a conscience effort to pick for the Timbre but I'm going to be more aware now that you've mentioned it. It's more about feel. I'll use three upstrokes in a row if it naturally feels better that way. But maybe I'm subconsciencely doing that for the Timbre as three upstrokes in a row is not a common way to pick. Thanks again

Slans......Points well taken. I thank all of you. Everyone's opinions mean a great deal to mean as all are incredible players, This has been very educational for me. Thanks again. Take Care......

Al...... Be very careful...... You may father a........ Smurf

Have A Great Day Everyone ! ! ! !

I have a problem. My danged guitar doesn't stay in tune! I put new strings on, graphited the nut and did it all neat and proper. (By the way it's an Ibanez Sa36fm i think- with a non-locking trem) I find that playing a bit of blues (ie: bends) will often put it out of tune far too quickly. I also find that doing small divebombs and the like also puts it out. Does anyone else have this problem? Or have any remedies? :-( Any help or respones appreciated. :-)

Hi Joe, hi everyone

A message to Joe:

I was looking at a video of you on youtube, where you played "surfing with the alien" on a fender stratocaster. I gotta say it inspired me to play the song differently:)

I just wanted to say it was really cool seeing you playing that.

All Y'all - thanks for the congrats on my Marshall endorsement..
you guys are so cool.... thanks a zill..
and you know that this means that the guy that is way too loud is about to get louder.. lol..
Zen - wow!!! amazing news about the CDs.. have you planned the artwork yet??
Slan - Morgan, Bulldog and now Mashall... dude this is like some really cool jigsaw and all the bits are fitting together so sweet....
still totally blown away bro...
Superstrings - dude... your comments about "flatter and thinner"
I'm an RG player myself right now but I'm in the process of switching over to Morgan Custom.Guitars.
MGC tried to guide me away from super thin necks because of the detrimental effects they have on tone and stability. So the 7-string MGC I have has - by my standards at least - a much thicker neck than I'm used to. Did it slow me down???? absolutely not...
in fact, when I go back to playing an RG it feels like a twig...
so right now I'm really enjoying the feel and tone for chunkier necks..
surferj - dude I thought they did make a leftie JS once upon a time - could it have been something like a JS470L from the early / mid 90's - cos being a leftie myself, something in my lil' brain is telling me I tried on out once... but it was a long time ago so I'm not 100% certain...
anyways I opted for the RG in the end cos it seemed more versatile to me...
keniko - I think the greatest single bad habit is to stop experimenting and goofing with stuff... some folks get really anal about alternate picking.. like it's 'the only true way and everything else is faking'... but that's just not right... I find that I not only mix up the techniques I opt for to create tonal differences, but also 'where' along the string I pick.. a harder more defined tone is found closer to the bridge, and a smoother warmer tone right over the end of the neck... and everything in between... use it all.. making a guitar sing is not just about flawlessly executing licks.. it's also about making choices that effect dynamics and timbre and exploiting them.. the guitar is such a versatile instrument... so why impose limitations on it via technique... also.. be careful of the whole "flawless' trip.. a guitar that sings - warts an all - is far more exciting than a technical display of perfection - that can often be about as interesting to listen to as a sewing machine... lol...
alecandro - thanks bro.... thnks a zill..
btw, is your album done yet?????????????

Hi there. I hope you really read this, Joe. I am 12 years old. My name is Grant. I am in a band called Still Pending. Even though I play drums in my band, music is pretty much my life and guitar is really my favorite. You are my idol and inspiration to play. I just learned Satch Boogie for a guitar recital. It was really hard but it was cool to learn. There is a video of me playing it on YouTube. I know you're probably super busy, but it would be so cool if you'd check it out. Here's a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OaL79cxQfmk. You are really awesome and I hope I get to see you some day! Grant

Hello everyone. This is my first time here and I can't believe I haven't been here before. First let me say that Joe Satriani has been a huge influence on my playing and I wouldn't be the guitarist that I am today without his inspiration. I've actually seen Joe live 15 times and have been blown away everytime. Meeting Joe after the Halloween show 2003 at the Kravis Center W.P.B. was an experience I'll never forget. Joe you rock, man. A nicer guy you'll never meet. So talented and yet so humble. Please come back soon I'll definitely be there. As for the rest of you axeslingers I look forward to hearing about anything guitar related. I'll try to be as intereting as I can. That's all for now. See ya and thank you Joe you're a real credit to humanity.

hey joe! ha ha ! Iv'e been a fan since surfin' and because of my tax statis It's taken me this long to write you! I've been playing original music for about 14 years and just quit my cover band of only a year to pusue my dream of the new music I have been working on! We have played 71 weekends since 2006 to dec. 2007 and I think you could be the only one to help guide me in pursuing my dream and maybe become a g3 opener! If this sounds interesting to you, please contact me for further details! I wouldn't waste your time because I think this new music is the shit! I am just asking for your honest opinion about this music I've been working on and only one chance to hear it. Please take consideration and I promise I won't waste your time! I'm sure you get this all the time but as my idol and mentor please give this a chance! no matter what, you have and will always move me with your way of expressing the guitar the way a guitar should always sound ! thank you joe! -james
