Honey, will you marry... Oh. Never mind...

LONDON (Reuters) - It is the one moment every man wants to get right -- and which London floor-fitter Lefkos Hajji could hardly have got more wrong.

The luckless 28 year-old's dreams of giving his sweetheart, Leanne, 26, the ultimate proposal have literally vanished into thin air.

Hajji, of Hackney, east London, had concealed a $12,000 engagement ring inside a helium balloon. The idea was that she would pop the balloon as he popped the question.

But as he left the shop, a gust of wind pulled the balloon from his hand and he watched the ring -- and quite possibly the affections of his girlfriend -- sailing away over the rooftops.

"I couldn't believe it," he told The Sun newspaper.

"I just watched as it went further and further into the air.

"I felt like such a plonker. It cost a fortune and I knew my girlfriend would kill me."

Hajji spent two hours in his car trying to chase and find the balloon, without success.

"I thought I would give Leanne a pin so I could literally pop the question," he said.

"But I had to tell her the story -- she went absolutely mad. Now she is refusing to speak to me until I get her a new ring."

He is hoping the ring will still turn up.

"It would be amazing if someone found it," he added.

You are right, I forgot Whitesnake.

They have been promising AC/DC for a while - they are way overdue for a new one.

slanshroom - That prank video is one of the greatest things I've ever seen. Thanks for sharing that, haha.

cheese101 - I'm doing OK, all things considered. I'm still working as a copy editor at a newspaper, but I'm now working out of a different office and doing nearly twice the work for the same pay (editing stuff for two papers instead of one). It's lame in some ways but awesome in others. There was a period of time about two weeks ago where I thought I may have been out of a job...but it all worked out. So I can't complain.

In the larger picture, I'm really itching to up and move somewhere completely new. I don't quite know where I'd be headed, but I like the idea of a fresh start. Lately I've been looking for a reason to stay in the Long Beach area, and I don't kow if I have anything...so...

I know we don't have tour dates yet, but do you see yourself making it to any SoCal Satch shows this time around? It'd be nice to hang out with you and Chris again...

matt king - Hahaha...In-N-Out is so amazing.

We had a really bad night at work two Sundays ago. Our network was down and we had all kinds of other problems. So as a result, management bought us In-N-Out for dinner. We ordered about $80 worth of food for 16 people...single burgers, double burgers, quadruple burgers, grilled cheeses (burgers without the burger), all kinds of fries, and several milk shakes and sodas. They cooked all of that food in 12 minutes without making any mistakes on any of the several special orders. Delicious.

marimariSRV - You're getting married? Congrats! :-)

::sigh:: I need to find a girlfriend...haha.

...Austin...

You're right. AC/DC is LONG overdue but I read this recently which makes me hopeful:

Bassist Cliff "Williams told Spinner.com last month that AC/DC will enter the studio March 1('08) to begin recording its first new album in eight years."

Slan - I decided that the best way to learn logic is to write and record music right away.. then I only have to learn how to solves the problems that confront me at that moment in the creative process... so right now I'm writing with the sequencer and learning all that side of things.. when it's time to drop stuff to 'tape' then I'll figure that side out.. then mixing and so on...
I'm doing ok I think so far...

canchito - a lil' advice... if you really want to nail 'music theory'... spend some time really getting your head around intervals because they are essentially the alphabet of music... this then arms you with the principle linguistic tools with which you can talk about notes and how they relate to each other...
wizard - with respect to this comment:
What I was trying to demonstrate was going from the 7th mode of E harmonic min which is D# alt double flat 7 by using D# maj........
- ok dude.. I totally see where you're coming from.. here's a tip though when describing modes to folk....
you start by deriving the mode from the 'parent' scale - nothing unusual about that at all... but to put the icing on the cake of understanding maybe then show the mode in question with respect to the same tonic note as the parent.. then the differences really leap out at you.. and then leap out to your ears even more so when you play them that way....
here's a real simple example to illustrate my thinking..

parent key = C maj - C, D, E, F, G, A, B
spelt with the following intervals
tonic, maj 2nd, maj 3rd, perf 4th, perf 5th, maj 6th, maj 7th

the object being debated is the Dorian mode - which is derived by locating it's tonic on the 2nd degree of the major scale - in this case D
the notes you end up with are D, E, F, G, A, B, C
this therefore generate the intervals as follows
tonic, maj 2nd, min 3rd, perf 4th, perf 5th, maj 6th, min 7th

then our pupil stick this on the guitar and plays it... then plays C, then D Dorian.. then C again... hmmm.. sounds just like C being played some other way... and thinks... "so what's the big deal about modes..."
and why is this?? it's because they have a head full of the parent major tonality... so they're playing the same note pool in a different place...
they therefore completely fail to "hear" that Dorian is a minor scale with a major 6th...

solution.... continue to explain by describing the mode using the same tonic - in this case C..

C Dorian is: C, D, Eb, F, G, A, Bb

play C major, then C Dorian and wow... the tonality really stares you in the face... it's a whole new scale...

the challenge should you choose to accept it.... lol...
go again on the 7th mode of E harm min...
and this time, complete a good job by showing both E harm min and it's 7th mode with E as the tonic... list the intervals too.. the " stare and compare" is more striking and more obvious...
and then you can really hear it when you play it too....

sound like a plan????? lol...

Alan....now you're actually starting to hurt my feelings.

And I did remember that a year ago yesterday, Chris and I were in Reno to see G3 and give Joe and the guys the St. Patricks goofy stuff....it was such a great show, we had the best time that night. Maybe they still have some of those green presents and can have fun with them again this year. Either that, or maybe Galen took this last year to really grow out his chest hairs, and dyed them green for the day today :)

Austin....I remember In-n-Out toooooo.....sooo good....might be worth a trip to Southern Cali again some day :) You never know where or when we might pop up, if it's in your neighborhood, I'd be sure to give you a shout out. We've been to various shows in California, to Nevada, and even clear across to Washington DC and New Jersey to see Joe....and I may even be headed to Ireland in May, so see.....you just never know!

But I must say....doing twice the work for the same pay doesn't really compute.....change might just be what you need!

Matt King....put down and back away from the CHEESE sammich immediately....u cannibal!

Keniko, thank you :)

Chelle....Dotty said to tell you thank you and she wants to spank you if you ever come out here. I told her you were the one telling me to call her Dotty :) So I lied! Better you than me, I grew up on the receiving end of her paddle!

Amir K, how are you holding up honey? Thinking of you...
