Webmaster Jon, would you mind fixing the Guitar Center appearance for April 10th, changing it to Clackamas, Portland, OR not CA....don't want people to think Portland is in California :)

Thank you Joe for doing podcasts for us like you do. They are very cool and give people something more to look forward to. Hope you liked the "alien" pictures from Reno 2005, that was such a great show....well geez, ALL the EWJS shows we saw that tour were fantastic....6 in all :) Any hope of any more EWJS shows ever? Or is that just too hard on you guys.....I don't know how you did it when you did do those shows!

Listening to Nickelback's cd "All the Right Reasons".....my Joe is Far Away and I can't get through that song without breaking down every time. Maybe one day there will be no tears...but I can't see it ever happening.

Big hugs to J and T, you please be careful on your journey tomorrow.

Matt is a porpoise?

If you live outside the US and want to preorder PSATMOR, get it through CD Universe.

Phydeaux_3 - Thanks for sharing...it's always neat to hear stories from people who got into Satch during the early years.

Something that's kinda funny...at the time that I bought Surfing With The Alien it was the only album missing from my collection. So in a sense it was the last Satch album I bought (this was in 2001, so it's not counting the albums that have been released since then, of course), which is weird because it's a groundbreaking album that was so many people's first introduction to Satch. But I had heard live tracks of some songs (on Dreaming #11 and Time Machine) and seen Joe three times in concert before buying the album.

RyTunes - I did some digging around on T2J (hey, the search function isn't too bad) and found this from juju808 on 3/3/04:

Big Time - Peter Gabriel
Dont Give Up - Peter Gabriel
Heroes - David Bowie
Minerva - Deftones
Are You Experienced? - Jimi Hendrix
Machine Gun - Jimi Hendrix
Beautiful Day - U2
I'm Waiting for the Man - Velvet Underground
Casino Boogie - Rolling Stones
Sign O' the Times - Prince
Standin' Round Crying - Eric Clapton
I Believe in a thing Called Love - The Darkness
Presence of the Lord - Blind Faith

JimiHfan - Hi...keep in touch. I should be able to get the day off work, which means I'll be at the Guitar Center Hollywood gig as well...
matt king - "Digital recording of course also takes it's toll and honsetly i think some of what joe used to be has been lost to it ~ but none the less his new records always inspired me in some way"

I feel exactly the same way about Joe's recent music...and I also agree about Crystal Planet. It's not my favorite (it's probably #2 behind ITLIS?), but I think it's his best album.

sneaky penguin - The last G3 tour wasn't recorded for CD/DVD.

Clarky- Now I'm really confused. My friends tell me I'm partially retarded so help me out here. Gmaj (ionian) G-A-B-C-D-E-F# is this correct? If so the maj triad from the root G would be G-B-D right? G being the root, B being the maj 3rd, and D being the perfect 5th. Observing the above scale A looks oddly like the 2nd and C interestingly enough looks like the 4th. Somehow my warped mind describes a Gsus4 as G-C-D and Gsus2 as G-A-D. Sus meaning (to me) to suspend the 3rd B, and leaving in the 3rd it becomes Gmaj11 G-B-D-C (omiting of course the 7th F# and 9th A). So where in the spelling G-D-A-D (to me this looks like Dsus4 in 1st inv. or a D5/G) does the 4th lie? In other words where is the C if it's a sus4 and C is the 4th? And how did the A get in there if it's the 2nd? Are these valid questions? Should I put my guitars away and take a job as an old yak gelder? Will they send me someplace special? How will I be able to continue playing if I can't even count to 4?

Hey Webmaster!

Anyplace we can upload and share some past Satch concerts? How about adding a page of live performances and/or past setlists? I got a several great recordings of Flying In a Blue Dream Tour I'd like to post.....How about I get to share a recorded show where it was Eric Johson opening for Satch then later that night Stevie Ray Vaughn. It was recorded several show before the tragic events at Alpine Valley.

I'm waiting for a proper place to post these newly converted MP3's!

hey Joe, I heard you were coming 2 Phoenix and I'm going out 2 buy an Ibanez with the hopes that you'll be able 2 sign it. I probably should be paying on some bills with the money (that's what I'm hearing), but people just don't understand what it means 2 have an autographed Ibanez by Joe Satriani. how often will I get a chance like this? I'll see you in Phoenix, Joe. have a safe trip. (and please sign my guitar!) take care, native rocker

Clarky:

Yes,...That was the stuff.Here's what I did:

There was a series of frequency #'s that were catagorized by the increments you would typically find on any 10 band E.Q..Here's an example:

15KHz:Icrease to brighten cymbals,string instruments

10 KHz:Increase to brighten vocals

7 KHz:Increase to add sharpness to guitars, finger sound to bass

5 KHz:Reduce to soften thin guitar,Increase low frequency drum attack on foot/toms

3 KHz:Increase for more attack on acoustic/electric guitars/pluck on bass

1.5 KHz:Reduce to remove dullness of guitars/clarity on bass

800 Hz:Reduce to remove "Cheap sound on guitars", Increase for clarity & punch on bass

400Hz:Increase to add clarity on bass lines,Reduce to remove "cardboard" sound on drums

200Hz:Increase to add fullness to guitar/snare(harder sound)

100Hz:Reduce to remove boom on guitars/add clarity,Increase for harder bass sound

50Hz:Increase to add more fullness to lowest frequency instruments like kick drums & Bass.

I took these basic guidelines & printed them out on 1 sheet of paper. Then I cut each catagory into little strips, then taped them on the wall next to my computer in the shape of a basic E.Q. curve(wave)..

Very fast reference when mixing!!!.It helped me out a great deal.Maybe you should try it too.I have a tendancy to add too much treble to the overall mix but I have recently learned to back off a little more than I normally would listen to music. Then I can go back & add more in increments if needed. 1 or 2 Khz really makes a difference in the overall mix.You can also apply that to other frequencies seperatelly during recording or mix down.My best advice is to compare your mix to the most awsome recording you have ever heard then use that as your sole reference.I use Dream Theater's Metropolis :"Scenes from a memory" for my ref....I don't quite get the same results as they do simply because I don't use amps & don't have a bazillion dollars worth of equipment to work with. But it does however, give me something to strive for.

I have a set of 250 watt JVC Home stereo speakers hooked up to a 400 watt Onkyo reciever.I have that running my computer monitor rather than a cheap pair of desktop speakers. What I hear is basically what I get...give or take a few dB"s on certain frequencies that my speakers can't handle or over emphesize.I will mix at a low volume first then take a break.Go back later & crank it up.You have to give your ears a break. The book recommends that you do the loud volumes first thing the next day. They also recommend self powered monitors because they heat up quickly & remain at a steady temp & power output thru out the session as apposed to non-powered that gradually lose their response sensitivity over time from heat and the loss of definition thru wires & such....

Try that E.Q. on the wall trick....It really works well bro!..........Have fun;)

PhilTheMetalhead - On the bonus DVD from Dream Theater's Systematic Chaos, they show screen shots of them mixing in all the voices for Repentance. The sound clips have the people's names on them, and even though they blur it out a little bit, you can still tell who is who. Joe's clip is the one that starts "I really regret not being able to see my friend Andy..." Steve Vai's clip goes something like "I want to thank you for helping me to see my own selfishness..."

Pretty cool stuff, and great song.

I just gotta say that the podcasts are awesome and I am so excited for the new album. It is just plain ear candy. I can really relate to the musterion. Sometimes you just gotta believe and the musterion isn't really a musterion at all but just faith. I wrote a song recently called from dark to light and it is similiar to that kind of spiritual journey. Joe is so good an putting his ideas and feelings into songs. Incredible. I am trying to do the same but got a long way to go. Thanks so much for the inspiration Joe!!

Joe,

Is there any chance of a G3 with Mr Vai anytime soon?

Will be attending your concert at Bristol Colston Hall, England so see you there.

Also, I'll have to agree with the other guys. Any chance of a photo together?

Regards,

Hi from the Philippines. We have been toying with the idea of seeing you and Steve on G3 with perhaps a female guitarist. I don't know if you have done this already but well, we are in the Philippines and G3 DVDs are hard to come by. This could be fascinating for many of us :) Batten? Carina Alfie? The choices are endless. Rock on. By the way, if you have little time, please listen to my compositions, which I recorded raw. I would be very honored to have the master listening to them: MY SONGS

Satch blues- Thanks for that - I actually had no idea which was Satch's voice lol they all sound kinda the same. Everytime I listened to it I tried to figure out which was Joe's and never could lol. I'll listen out for the names next time I do listen to it.

More songs worth looking at from DT:

These Walls

Octavarium

Prescence of enemies part 1

Satriella - I'm not gonna e-mail you- it will only depress you and that's never good. Thank you for the offer though, I appreciate it a lot.

Allanex1- Don't know if Joe's had a look, but from what I heard they sound pretty damn good. Very Satch-esque. How long have you been playing?
