i finally listened to album and of course Asik Veysel. I liked joe's tribute.i think he understood vaysel's spirit.the intro, rhythm riff and melody are beautiful but i didn't like the improvisation solo (of course there were so nice words but generally i ddn't like the solo). i surfed in some turkish forums and people say the intro of Asik Vaysel sounds like Iron Maiden's Paschendale.i didn't listen to paschendale but i think a lot of people in this forum listened to it...

JOE,

I've just been out to get the new album. The shop only had one copy of the CD + DVD edition and I managed to get it!!

Excellent work man! Love it!!!! Do you know if there will be a tab book for the album.

Also, I've got my Club Joe Tickets for your Nottingham Royal Centre show. Can't wait to see you perform some of these new tunes live..

All the best Dan

What is your purpose?

Well I believe the purpose is to provide something whereby the crowd can interact with Joe/the band. Just like Crowd chant.

It's a nice little story on the podcast Joe but that stuff has been done so many times before and on so many levels.

Mini rant over, the rest of the album sounds like it will be pretty damned good man.

Austin BigBunny - Ugh...that really stinks. I guess they're holding it so it's released closer to the start of the Australia tour? If you (or anyone else) ends up not getting it from somewhere else online, email me...I can try to pick up a few extra copies at the Guitar Center in-store and snail mail them to you. It might be a bit more expensive, but you won't have to wait three months.

thanx for the offer Austin :) i've ordered from amazon so i'll just have to wait a couple of weeks, no dvd with it though - amazon ha've never let me down *touch wood* you going to one of those instores? ENJOY!!

Maximagnet BigBunny . .. Leanne . . .That sucks . . . . its a shame . . . I'd love to mail u a copy just to keep you going!
Hope you're still painting?
That U2 one you did was REALLY COOL!!!

hi Maxi, i actually just started painting again...in the very early stages though. 2 paintings, one of Cliff Burton on art paper and a Satch one on canvas...i actually started sketching the Satch one a year ago but as usual i jumped to something else >=;P

Jason understand man, family are important...but like Bowie said 'they'll f**k you up they will' ;) j/k

I just heard samples from all the songs and was blown away by the last song: Andalusia. I allways wanted to hear Joe throw down accoustically. I was trying to think of where i heard that name and then this sunday the paper did a story on a georgia writer named Flannery O'connor who called the farmhouse where she wrote "Andalusia" I wonder if this is where Joe got it from?....Can't wait for the release

Webmaster I was using Wise2u as a handle, even posted pictures in your archives, but i forgot the password and dont have the e-mail i signed up with. Is there anyway I can get my handle back? my current e-mail is davefmwise2u@yahoo.com.....I appreciate it.

P.S. Joe when you come to Atlanta this time book the Fox if you can, it's so much better than the tabernacle, in so many ways.

Hey Joe, thanks for inspiring me to pick up the guitar again after putting it down for a long time. If you see Paul Gilbert, say thanks to him too please.

Are you going to come to Japan on this tour? I hope so, I still need to see you live. Please try to do so.

Also, is there any reason you last two albums are mastered so much louder than most CDs? They're the loudest albums I have bought in the last few years or so.

God bless and rock out.

Let me just start by saying I DO like the new album a lot.
Now I'm a huge Buckethead fan & this guy always leaves me speechless, how somebody can put out that sheer amount of music AND still have it all be very original & inspiring just literally blows my mind. That said, I don't love everything he's done (most of it though), like Kevin's Noodle House did almost nothing for me. But then released at the same time was Decoding The Tomb Of Bansheebot which is easily now one of my favorite albums of all time. I'm a complete & total guitar freak, always have been. I listen to a LOT of players & in my opinion Buckethead manages to blow all of them away.
So... on to my rating of PSATMOR (remember now, I said I do like it) there's a lot of nice playing there but is it just me or do the drum lines just drone on a little? Is Joe really staying on the cutting edge with this album? Is he playing anything very original that he never played before? I hear a lot of "familliar" (no, not the "same") sounds here and there, and again I find the drum lines less than inspiring. When I go back and listen to the first G3 and all the albums before that the material was over the top, I'd listen and say "I've never heard anything like that before" but it's just not like that anymore for me with Joe. Then I go back and listen to Crime Slunk Scene or Enter The Chicken or Kaleidoscalp or Thanatopsis and I'm constantly impressed, I hear something new every time I listen & it never stops blowing my mind.
Keep in mind I'm not trying to say "this guitarist is better than that guitarist" really I do love them all in their own special way, and always will. I do really like PSATMOR (Andalusia is a masterpiece!) but maybe I'm just getting a little bit spoiled by Buckethead, his stuff is just all over the place, from the heaviest heavy (death-metal-esque) to the softest/sweetest (check out Electric Tears) he's never the same thing twice.. and those drum beats are insane!
Back in the day, when Stu was with Joe the basslines were VERY inspired, lots of improv'd stuff and fancy fills. Now I find the bass is very static & is just "along for the ride" if you will. This will hopefully change on the road when Brad can spread his wings a little & spice it up a bit.
I know that this won't be a popular opinion around here, but this is how I honestly feel about the new album, as I said (& it bears repeating) I do like it but I guess what I'm saying is that I'm not truly passionately in love with it. I think that Joe CAN do a lot better, he has in the past.

So, anyone who wants to get a feel for what I'm going on about, check out Buckethead's latest album Decoding The Tomb Of Bansheebot (or Pepper's Ghost easily just as good) and tell me that's not one of the most amazing guitar albums you've ever heard.

And just one more thing, on a side note, I would LOVE to hear Joe do a metal album, that would rock my tiny World inside out.

smooches,
» Phy³ . . .

I must admit I know little about Son Seals. So thx, I will check more about him. From Chicago blues I like Willie Dixon, though being a bassist, he's the composer of many classics as "Little Red Rooster", "I just want to make love to you!" and "Hoochie Coochie Man" among others.

This dudes from amazon uk are really fast. PSATMOR is already with me before april 1st ! Someone has said "Andalusia" deserves a grammy. I don't care about those stupid grammy jury. It's an awesome track, and everybody will realize that.

AlexanderCaetano
you're really fast, dude ! I admire everyone who can play guitar like that. I'm a frustrated guitar player, and, you know? I laid down my guitar when I discoverd Satch at the very early 90ies LOL

BigBunny - Is Amazon not selling the CD/DVD version? CD Universe is...maybe you should cancel your order and go with them instead?

Igneousiceman - I think Snakes & Arrows is a big improvement over Rush's last few albums. Not that those were bad...I like them a lot, but you know what I mean.

It seems to be a return to their past sound...not as far into the past as I would like, but I think Snakes & Arrows is very comparable to Presto and I'm more than happy with that. My favorite run of Rush albums is Signals through Hold Your Fire, with my favorite being Power Windows.

My biggest (and only, basically) complaint about Snakes & Arrows is that too many of the songs have similar tempos so everything seems to blend together.

What are your thoughts on it? What are your favorite Rush albums?

Phydeaux_3 - I'm only going off the samples of PSATMOR, but I agree. It sounds a bit "safe" to me in some ways, even though there are some cool parts. One of the few things I didn't like about Super Colossal was that the songs for the most part tended to stay safe and familiar, with maybe a more experimental thing used as the pre-chorus or the bridge or something.

From the samples I think the last two PSATMOR tracks are the most experimental, and I know I'm being picky but it bugs me that he's ending the album with that stuff instead of starting with it. I think he could do so much more.

I also agree with you about the simple bass/drum parts. I guess that comes out of Joe playing everything on his demos...

I have more to say but I'll wait until I have the album tomorrow.

...Austin...
