Why such dislike of "I Just Wanna Rock"?The hook is only at the beginning and end of the song. The middle of the song has killer guitar work and just plain rocks. It is definately better than Crowd Chant ever was.Just my opinion.

Youtube's down right now, and I've never posted vids before but you can be sure I will! As for the meeting Joe etc. I live in the St. Louis area, so I actually had to drive 5 1/2 hours with my dad out there. I've only seen Joe once aside from that show, and it was a school nite, so I left at 11 or so, and didn't get home until midnight. Which means no encore, or post-show etc. The Chicago show was really monumental for me, and I got a LOT of people asking me about it at school today. I'm sure I'll be able to see him again eventually though. Take care my friend! I'll let you know as soon as those videos hit youtube!

Just got back from seeing Jackson Browne play an acoustic show. It was good, but he ain't no Joe.
The one song that stuck out was Lives In The Balance -
Ive been waiting for something to happen
For a week or a month or a year
With the blood in the ink of the headlines
And the sound of the crowd in my ear
You might ask what it takes to remember
When you know that youve seen it before
Where a government lies to a people
And a country is drifting to war
And theres a shadow on the faces
Of the men who send the guns
To the wars that are fought in places
Where their business interest runs
On the radio talk shows and the t.v.-
You hear one thing again and again-
How the u.s.a. stands for freedom-
And we come to the aid of a friend-
But who are the ones that we call our friends--
These governments killing their own?
Or the people who finally cant take any more-
And they pick up a gun or a brick or a stone-
There are lives in the balance-
There are people under fire-
There are children at the cannons-
And there is blood on the wire-
Theres a shadow on the faces-
Of the men who fan the flames-
Of the wars that are fought in places-
Where we cant even say the names-
They sell us the president the same way-
They sell us our clothes and our cars-
They sell us every thing from youth to religion-
The same time they sell us our wars-
I want to know who the men in the shadows are-
I want to hear somebody asking them why-
They can be counted on to tell us who our enemies are-
But theyre never the ones to fight or to die-
And there are lives in the balance-
There are people under fire-
There are children at the cannons-
And there is blood on the wire.

KenCampbell - Yeah, life is more or less OK. I'm kinda unhappy about a few work-related things, but in the end I still have a job so I can't really complain.
T2J is addicting...I'm glad I'm back. I don't know how I managed to be away for as long as I was.
Pluvious - I probably touched on some of this in my other reply, but again...I'm sure Joe is aware of the general concept of albums getting louder and louder over the years.
Regardless of what the waveform looks like, though, I again have to say that I just don't think the mastering job is all that bad on PSATMOR. I don't get tired (ear fatigue) listening to it like I do with some other recent releases.
Joe's music is instrumental, so there's no vocals to compete with. He's also a solo artist, so his guitar doesn't really have to compete with other instruments. I think it sounds fine.
I agree that the album lacks dynamics, but it isn't mastered so hot that some of the actual music is lost. So I'm happy with it.
Keniko / Joeman9 - Thanks for the info about the new songs. Hopefully I'll come up with something decent if they do allow me to record tomorrow.
Phil_mt - Hi...welcome to the site.
That effect on I Just Wanna Rock is done with a talk box. The effect was made famous by Peter Frampton on Do You Feel Like We Do. It's also used by Joe Perry on Aerosmith's Sweet Emotion.
Phydeaux_3 - I suspect MP3s have a bit to do with music being mastered the way it is. More people are listening to music as singles in a shuffled format instead of tracks in an album format. So everyone is mastering their tracks louder and louder so they stand out against all of the other new music out there.
I think it's lousy, but there's not much that can be done about it. I love Porcupine Tree's latest two releases, Fear Of A Blank Planet and Nil Recurring, because they're mastered the way music should be. They sound excellent, and it's fun to crank them up really LOUD. I miss that about music.
michelle - Jackson Browne? Awesome...I'd love to see him in concert some day. How big was the venue?
Chris Gray - Buy the album twice. When you get the CD/DVD version, give your first one to someone else and make a new fan.
I'll probably leave for the Guitar Center gig in about 12 hours. You don't have to pay me before then, obviously, but if you want the album and can give me your word that you'll pay me back for the cost of the CD/DVD and shipping to Australia, I'll get you a copy. Maybe I can get Joe to sign it for you, too.
Let me know.
EDIT - I'm leaving now, actually...a bit earlier than I thought. Maybe someone else at one of the last few shows can help you out, or maybe there will be extras when Joe does his Australia tour.
...Austin...

Hey Joe! Thanks for offering your fans a chance to express themselves and ask questions. Just wondering when you come to Australia in July whether you plan to bring anyone with you as an opening act? I am absolutely pumped to see you play all your hits plus the new album in Sydney but it would be just be the greatest thing ever to happen if we got to see you and someone like Paul Gilbert (who I know is opening for you in the UK) or Steve Vai or John Petrucci or any number of other guitar virtuosos that you know. Regardless of what happens in terms of opening acts, I know that I am gonna be there listening to some fine music from you and your band.
Regards from Sydney, Australia!

Hi Joe,
My son Ryan is a 14 year old guitar student whose dream is to have you as his guitar teacher. We were thrilled to hear that you are playing in Brisbane Australia July 17 2008, but when I tried to buy tickets today I was informed that the Tivoli theatre is an 'over 18 - GA ' venue. What a bummer! Please tell us there will be some opportunity for Ryan to see you perform live before he turns 18 in 2012!
Cheers

I've hit the same problem myself, it seems.
Since Joe isn't gracing New Zealand any time soon, I decided to head over to the Brisbane concert at the Tivoli the day before my brother's birthday, but since I am only 17 and turning 18 in September (annoyingly), I may have trouble getting a ticket.
I really want to see Joe, and it's a bit ironic, yet still upsetting to have to miss out on seeing my hero for this minor detail.
If anyone (Joe, concert organisers, anybody with influence, haha) can change this minor detail I would be incredibly grateful!

Joe, your music is amazing! Each track brings out different emotions in me that are subconsciously there but need a vehicle to bring them to the surface....your music does that. Thank you for doing that. One of the greatest emotions I have felt in life is the birth of my daughter. I can still remember seeing here eyes open for the first time as the sun's rays hit here face, ready to take on the world. It would be great if you could write a piece that would reflect the feelings and optimism asscociated with such an amazing experience.

First off, I absolutely dig the new album. Without sounding too weird, I needed it! Between some nice spring-like weather and a new Satch disc....life is good! I'm also really excited about the Saturator Pedal. I'm very much into the sound of my guitar and always sort of tweak things to experiment with new sounds. I want to ask where you place the Saturator in your chain of command of your signal and where it souned the best? Also, did your gain setting on the amp change as a result of the pedal?
Looking forward to a future Detroit show and will be rocking the new disc until then! Thanks for doing your thang!

Joe,
Awesome show on Saturday in Chicago. I almost didn't think I was gonna make it up there. I drove up from Indianapolis and I am so glad I did. The weather was just awesome. I gotta chance to try some of Chicago's famous pizza while we were waiting in line. That was cool of them guys to come down there and feed us and keep us going till the doors opened. During the clinic, I never got a chance to ask my questions. SO, I'll ask now. HOW DO FEEL ABOUT IBANEZ'S PROGRESS IN THE GUITAR INDUSTRY? WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THEIR NEW ZR TREM? WILL YOU EVER USE A DIFFERENT TYPE OF TREM OTHER THAN THE EDGE PRO? AND WHAT ARE THE PROS AND CONS BETWEEN A STRAIGHT HEADSTOCK AND AN ANGLED ONE. Anyways, I didn't stick around for the signings. There was just too many people and my girfriend kept wining that it was too freakin hot in there. Yeah, next time she's not going. I did pick up the new album while I was there and its just great. You really can mix the old with the new. It's like new age alternative hard rock mixed with classic rock. I love it. It's growing on me so quick. My favs are Overdriver and Andalusia. Thanks, Joe!! COme to Indianapolis dude.
Kevin
