Ken : Musical life is very hard... i renounced here to build a blues band after 5 years of research, & 2 years of work with a good drummer.. it has been a very big frustration. But it was that or turn nut into my head & heart.

About Hendrix, i've listened to a lot. The Electric Ladyland is a masterpiece. Hendrix has done with Blues what Haëndel had done with italian classical school.

I keep the Jimi Blues & the Band of Gypsies as two monuments of Bluesrock.

Jimi playing the Born under a Bad sign (Albert King)

That's what i call an outstanding blue feeling. Sad the guy was so fragile inside his head.

Hendrix is a milestone in rock music and in guitar playing.
It's a weird thougth, but maybe we wouldn't have had Joe without his death, and maybe if he hadn't died we would have enjoyed new musical wonders.
The blues roots are strong for Jimi and for Joe, and such is the feeling they are capable to scatter to the audience when they play
If Joe talks about The wind cries Mary we'll better have a look at it

Hendrix genius is powerfull, indeed.. but..

Without Delta Memphis Orlean Chicago Blues..

& Without British Boom..

I try to mean.. the creative & synthetic power of Hendrix is out of doubt..

But the point is onto Guitar, Jeff Beck has been visionnary on several things before him. That's simply the truth.

I mean that, as Haëndel had studied Scarlatti harpsichord, Hendrix has studied Beck guitar while he was in the London's shadows. (you can notice that Hendrix is compared here to Haëndel)

So much guys study nowadays Hendrix without studying Beck.. but Hendrix had studied Beck.

The Legend wants that Hendrix was the best. I'm just wondering now what is better?

To be flash in the pan as Hendrix or Van Halen?

Or to be straight ahead your time all along a life, as Beck?

Once, Clapton has said : "I get something that Beck doesn't get. Beck gets something i don't get. But Hendrix overshoots us both."

I would like to add nowadays that Beck gets something that neither Hendrix nor Clapton get:

A very long creative & evolutive life. Beck is the strongest brain. The Maëstro into & beyond a whole human attitude.

Hendrix has never been more than a young kid, with a powerful genius. A manish boy who is dead, depressive, into his own vomit.

Special respect for Page : Led Zeppelin.

If Hendrix has been the alive blue crossroad of his time, Beck is the genuine Scarlatti of electric guitar. A genius at the ground of all the rest after him.

M'not sure there's a best one. M'not sure that to say there's a best one means anything brilliant or deep.

But if Hendrix as been the best one, Beck is The Maëstro.

Where is the difference between a best one & a maëstro? Probably inside something we call the human standing.

Hug.

& to be back to Joe Satriani, what Joe has essentially built onto guitar?

A bridge.

A bridge between Beck, Hendrix & Van Halen.

I don't say that Joe has awaked a morning thinking in his mind : "I'm gonna to build a bridge".

But signing up himself into a filiation of guitar genius, it's what he has done with a rare feeling of melody.

Hug.

Good weekend.

What I say is that Jimi surprised all UK guitar players when he landed in London. That doesn't mean Clapton and Beck weren't good at all, but both, among many others, recognized the powerful innovative strenght of Jimi's playing.
Beck
Clapton
I've always wondered what Jimi would have done if he has had at least 20 years of career.

Ibanez : i already knew all that & it's contained into my post.

Hendrix is dead. Your question has absolutly no sense. It's over for him since long time. Reality.

You can idolize Hendrix as much as you want, he has studied the english. He was probably the more powerful improviser.. he has understood everything about Stratocaster which existed long time before he starts to play guitar, but he's not the first tone visionnary.

If you listen the Jimi tone in England, & compare it to the tone he got before in USA, you catch what english brought to him.

It's not a question of idolizing. You would be surprised to know you've propably heard more Hendrix than me. I avoid to fall in the choose thing, who is better than the other is what for me has no sense. Hendrix could learn from english, but english learn from him. An mostly they all learned mainly from Robert Johnson and the american pioneers.

Ibanez : there's always interactivity, of course.. good point.. but i'm talking about vision.

Hendrix = Haendel, but an Haendel which he's never become adult.

Beck = Scarlatti, a Scarlatti at the top of his life.

Nothing more to say. I know i'm right.

You are not forced to agree.

Guitar man : Third stone from the sun, Drivin South, Jam back at the house, Who knows, Machine gun are some of my favs.

Talking about that, check this guys

Hear my train comin'

from here comes the joe wah legato.

M le Zen Poisson - I'm interested to read what you have to say about Beck saying that he was influenced by the likes of Chuck Berry, Steve Cropper, Cliff Gallup and Les Paul.

I see your point, an even agree to it.
Beck has reached maturity, as Joe is reaching it. Both have had the time, which is not only luck, but steering his lives with a solid head over their shoulders.
Jimi was not able to take the oontrol of his live, and was driven by the showbizz industry that sucked four years on the bursting explosion of his talent.
Another genius with a ruined personal live was Robert Johnson. If you take into account his value as a person, you will not consider him a Master (I do not either) but we cannot deny his musical influence and mastering for all modern guitarists (only musically speaking)

Guitarman,
"All along the Watchtower" is one of my fav, although it's a Dylan tune. Hendrix cover is one of the rare covers that surpasses the original version. I do love "Red House", "Little Wing" among others

Castle : yeap.. even if Jimi hated his own voice.

I remember that the Jeff Beck Group with Rod Stewart has been an attempt to go beyond Yardbirds, Cream, The Experience.. but it not really worked..

The Bomb has been Led Zeppelin... Plant & Bohnam have chosen Jimmy Page..

and MC-5, Deep Purple & Black Sabbath.

So Jeff Beck is gone onto instrumental way, innovating with each album. The electric guitar player.

In 78, all has been exploded.

& now, Beck is still here.

I love Joe & Jeff. But not at all for the same reasons.

To me, as for the Cube, the Maestro is Beck.

Fair enough.

The Jeff Beck Group. Saw them.

Too bad about Hendrix. It was the time. He did not respect his own gift. Sad.

Beck keeps getting better.

Joe Satrini - I have a question for Satch, if you wouldn't mind asking... Why did he choose to team up with Vox for a line of pedals? I could see him going to Vox for a wah pedal, but I would have never expected an entire line of pedals, just seems to deviate from his usual selection of pedals.

I have two auditions for two different bands coming up that I'm really excited about! It'll be nice to take a break from my solo project and start playing with a band and playing live again. Wish me luck everyone!
