Hybes : No prob. EVH's story is a miraculous one, but a very sad one.. a few like Charlie Parker on sax.. & some others ones.

Talking about old generation, fortunatly, we still get Jeff Beck among us.

Igneousiceman: Yeah thanks for listening again! Good stuff. I guess what I've tried to do with my stuff (obviously heavily influenced by JS) is create memorable and interesting melodies, rather than simply play really fast! - I know there are a lot of awesome technical players out there, but what a lot of them lack for me is feel and sense of melody (without sounding big headed!)

Yeah with the composition aspect I tend to base a track around a mode of the scale to give the piece a certain flavour, which does rely on theory, but at the same time, thinking too much about theory ruins creativity a bit, so yeah you need a balance I reckon!

It says you play guitar! what sort of stuff do you do?

Nice to hear from you!

Nick, that's very interesting what you say about the whole theory aspect.Personally, I just take tackle the guitar from a non theory point of view. Unfortunately that means getting lost now and again! I am learning a few scales though, and that does appear to have helped.

Starting to get into a band called Edguy now-their lead singer sounds almost exactly like Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden vocalist)

Check em out here

Igneousiceman: That's what I do - I just play what I feel like, no real practice "regime", but scales will help. Pentatonics are useful, but you probably already know it.

By the way, superb rythm Cream power with Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce. It's not strange EVH loves it !

I was actually gonna post that ZZ Top was one of the loudest I've been to also! LOL! August 10, 2005 - We had seats up front, and this huuuuuge speaker unit was hanging from the ceiling right above our heads that sent the bass directly into the depths of yer skull and down into yer ribcage. My husband was asking for mercy, but I was lovin' it! It was feckin' great! lol! ZZ Top is by far one of the best bands I've ever seen. Their performance was so incredibly ass kicking, and the music was killer!

MICHELLE- totally agree, one of the best i've seen, that gig at the bowl, you could hear the first support band as clear as a bell from where we parked the car about a mile away. Where did you see them in 05, if it was in the UK i wont be chuffed i missed it.

Igneousiceman, SRV come on part 3 is a classic! He makes that wah pedal scream! Good choice of track.

Sorry I forgot to say that I'm finishing Fusion at the minute, redesigning the artwork etc. The whole selling my stuff on my website is pretty unsuccessful to be honest, its just great if I can get people to listen online!

The whole jamming and 'using your ears' thing is the thing to do in my eyes rather than get bogged down with theory. But yeah if you learn all the modes ie. phrygian, lydian etc, then it does help with the whole Satch thing :-)

hybes - You're in Oklahoma, right? Hopefully Joe plays somewhere near you on this tour. If not, what about saving up to take a vacation to California or the New York area and catch two or three shows in a row...?
Zenfish - "If you listen to VH's music, you hear that his musical culture goes far beyond Cream.. maybe you ignore that he was pianist & drummer before playing guitar. & that his father is a jazz musician"

The problem isn't with EVH's fans thinking he's one dimensional. I mean, it's been going on DECADES now since Eddie has done some his best guitar work. If Eddie wants us to know there are other aspects to his playing, he should show us.

When was the last time he came up with a riff like Girl Gone Bad, House Of Pain, or 5150? There are almost hints of that stuff on For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge and Balance, but those albums are around 15 years old.

I don't know what EVH's expectations are, but when you've only released three songs in the past 10 years it's hard for fans to think much of anything. I don't feel that he owes the fans anything, but sometimes it seems like he wants the rewards without doing all the work.

lorenzo001 - Hmmm? Click the "Joe Messages" button toward the top of this page and dig through them...Joe doesn't have all that many posts.

...Austin...

Do the Stu - I would LOVE to head to New York or Cali to catch a couple shows. I have not been able to have an adventure like that in years. I hope there's enough time when the schedule is released for me to get it worked out. Has anyone heard a time frame when the US tour is getting released?

I got my new Dennon headphones yesterday. My wife told me I look like I have flying saucers on my head! I told her I was trying to be like Jeff!!! She was clueless. Poor thing just isn't a rock and roll fan.

Hey Zen, if we're going for old cheezy videos, I prefer something like this!

Steve, Billy, & Greg - just like yesterday - only the Dave's have changed to protect the innocent. ;-)

They were a crazy bunch of mothers. lol!

And since we're talking old friends... Shy Boy

And since PG is putting some stank on the fretboard, might as well pull this one up too!!

That one stands the hair up on the back of my neck ffs! lol!
