For the first time, Joe came to Portugal to do a show of his own (he'd been here twice, once opening for AC/DC and two years ago, at SuperBock festival). And I simply wonder how come this show didn't happenned sooner!
Joe has an entouraget of fans here in Portugal! Lisbon nearly sold out (and if it wasn't for the price on the tickets, which drove a few fans away, i'm sure), and I am proud to say that... well, the ends meet!
I've been following Joe's career for the last 20 years, since I got my hands on a "Crushing Day" single, around 1988, and I feel free to say:
- April '30, that amazing concert, didn't quite surprised me. Because Joe did his best. And his best is simply awesome! I couldn't have asked for more!
- 20 years passed, and Joe goes far beyond pleasing the usual fan-mob. He has the capability to reinvent himself, without drifting and tumbling away from his "sound". And if "Super Colossal" was a good, but yet "more of the same" album, it predicted a probable return of a guitar-hero to his very own roots. "Captain Satchafunkilus" is absolute Satriani Kick-Ass Rock! 20 years from now, some of the tracks on the new album will be listed as "must-do"'s in concerts and CD anthologies, and the reaction in concert to some songs can already show that!
- The concert, first one of the european tour, was also a good example of what a musician, an artist, has to do; instead of "dumping out" the new album and then play the old stuff back and forth, Joe did 5 or 6 songs from the new album, and then surprised everybody when, between some of the "oldies", he played "Time Machine", sat on a chair to play "Crushing Day" and revisited "Cryin'", which had been out of his live set for a while.
Let me resume just by saying that myself and, I'm sure, all the fans here in Portugal, want you to come back soon, Joe! Solo, or with the G3 guys, we just want to ROCK!
PS: My wife was with me, at the concert. She only new a few songs, mostly the ones I sometimes play at home. And you just got a new fan! She was absolutely amazed, she became a fan and I think that's pretty cool, right?
See ya soon, Satchman!

Anyone want a laugh? Go to the Virgin media home page, someone has compiled a list of the all time top ten guitarists. No Joe, Vai, Malmsteen, Van Halen, Gary Moore, Jeff Healey, Stevie Ray Vaughn, their list of omissions is endless, but its some of the people that ARE in it thats funny.

Hi Joe,
I was wondering if you would be interested in doing a live, call-in interview and getting airplay on an internet radio station based in Denver. I just started putting together this format last week, (though I have been radio for a while) and I have Farnk Marino (Mahogany Rush), David Lindley and a yioung guy named Thomas Leebs that have all agreed to do it. Send me a personal email and I will send you the whole explanation. This is going to be a great series of shows that will harken back to the way FM Radio was when it started.
You can see my musical background at www.garydeansmith.com and send an email from there.
I look forward to hearing form you.

Nine Inch Nails Offers Freebie Of New Album
Nine Inch Nails, in a surprise move, posted access to a free download of its complete new album, "The Slip," on its Web site at 12:01 a.m. this morning (May 5).
The ten-track album is available in several formats -- including MP3 and high-quality, lossless options like FLAC -- via a link on NIN.com. All of the formats come free of digital rights management.
A statement on the site from frontman Trent Reznor says simply, “Thank you for your continued and loyal support over the years -- this one's on me."
Nine Inch Nails plans to release “The Slip” on CD and vinyl in July and will use traditional brick-and-mortar distribution. Further details about the physical product have yet to be announced.
Manager Jim Guerinot tells Billboard.com that the timing for the free digital download felt right because "we just put a record out [and] we're going on-sale with tickets."
He adds that Reznor's "been in a prolific phase and we didn't want 'business' to get in the way of getting the art in the hands of the fans. We've looked at the climate and the many advantages of being able to do whatever we want without bureaucracy."
"The Slip" features Reznor on vocals and various instruments,
as well as Josh Freese, Robin Finck and Alessandro Cortini. Guerinot also reports to Billboard.com that Reznor "worked again with his team of Alan Moulder and Atticus Ross out of his garage" on the recording and says word of the album came late.
"T[rent] let me know there was some new music coming and the next thing I knew there was a full-length record done.... It's very exciting to be finishing mixing on Thursday, mastering Friday, finishing artwork on Saturday and having the world hear it [Monday morning]!"
To get the download of “The Slip,” site users need to provide an email address, to which a link is sent that includes access to all format options. All downloads also include a PDF with lyrics and artwork.
This is the first time Nine Inch Nails has made a new album available completely and exclusively for free as a digital download.
Demand for the new music appeared to be immediate and heavy. Just after 9:30 a.m. ET, the site was slowed to a crawl due to traffic.
A free single, "Discipline," was released last week to terrestrial radio stations and their websites, while the track "Echoplex" is available on social networking site iLike.
In addition to giving away the album's finished tracks, Nine Inch Nails is also making freely available the multi-track files for “The Slip,” which can be reconstructed and then posted to Nine Inch Nails’ fan remix site, remix.nin.com.
Like the band's previous album, "Ghosts I-IV," "The Slip" is being released under a Creative Common license, so it can be redistributed freely.
As previously reported, Nine Inch Nails is reserving premium seats to its upcoming summer tour for fans who register through NIN.com prior to exclusive pre-sales.
