Hey Achoo...really cool tips there about the challenge and the metronome, thanks. I don't think I'll be satch standard however long I play, but maybe my older son will be someday. I was jamming with him earlier, I'd composed a wee thing on the bass and he started fiddling about in the higher ranges of his 6 string...in the same key...at 11 years old I think that's pretty good (and with zero theory behind him). Together it sounded coherent and could be the start of a whole new composition.

I can read music ok, for the piano and also for singing, I sing in my local church choir (four part choral) as soprano and alto (how different that can be from rock music - but hey, I enjoy it). Music is music (apart from country which I can't abide) and I love everything from choral to classical to metal. It's the way it's constructed that gets me everytime...just sometimes magic happens!

dont know if being loud is a bad thing for a rock concert?

metallica were bloody loud and aerosmith. machine head sounded like a jumbo jet taking off. personally id be disapointed if joe did nt play loud, stuf like the summer song was made to be blasted, just dont sound right queit, but each to their own.

blue moon, wheres that photo taken, looks like ancient Greece or something? you dont look very happy being honest, sorry.

Joe, Wanted to tell you this. My best friends' son (2 years 3 months) loves and is mesmerized by you. A month ago, i was In Savannah where he lives and had my laptop with me which he loves. I said, Ben, you wanna hear joe (music video)? Knowing that he never had, i proceeded to play Always with me..... His dad knew that i was going to play it cos it's my all time song so much so that it is the ring tone for his dad when he calls me. Well, once the video started, Ben froze in front of it and was mesmerized. (played it twice.) Last weekend, I was there again and asked him, Ben wanna hear Joe? He went straight for my bag and sat there again while the video played. By the second day, when he woke up, he went to my bag, pointed to the laptop, and i asked the same and he said "yaa". To test him, i palyed other musicians and he walked away. Played AWMAWY (he loves it) and he was back. He also picked up a badminton racquet and copied you. He makes me play it 3 times every time (4 days). His parents love you cos you are the only one who can put Ben at ease no matter what. I would like to find/buy the music video and any direction would be appreciated . I know this is a little long winded but his father wanted me to tell you this seeing i play your music 90% of the time. IF you are ever in Savannah, i promised them that i will take Ben Eckwall to see you. Keep playing cos you captured another fan for life. Peace and surf the cosmos of music Victor M

MikeSb - How are you 'Big White'? been too long. Got a VM from Mari today and will call her soon. Gas prices - I was ripped off in Orlando at over $5 a gallon last week but nothing like UK and Canada. Big campaigns to get tax abaements but pressure against that in most Euro countries as it encourages the use of petrol vehicles - which much of the world in environmentally against.

Been in NY lately. SteveeT moved west yet?

Hello everybody!

Half my prior question. If anyone has an idea, please share.

Satriani-holicos mexicanos, alguien sabe?

Well, I chased the best seats for the august 12 show Mexico and they were already taken. How hard it is to get three consecutive, A row, center stage!! :)

I'm gonna be a little farther :( , a little off center ;( ... anyways, I'm planning to enjoy every single instant of our first attendance to Joe's performance (I'm taking two of my kids there)!!!.

Ok, to the remainder of my original question: my fears are confirmed... the ticket company did not offer on sale the ones for the august 13 date, despite satriani.com lists it right now and supposedly were available the same day as the august 12 ones!! Who sold them? Any tickets remaining?

Regards.

Ismael.

Igneousiceman: thank you for listening and your praises!

I know this is kind've shameless promo, but from a composing point of view I'm genuinely interested in what you think!

Klausi: I feel your pain. Michelle beat me to it but I'll echo what she said: if you are an inexperienced concert goer, please take some concert ear plugs with you (not the kind you wear for DIY ear protection - although they would be better than nothing). You can order them on-line. They are the kind of thing that drummers wear. You can get really expensive ones made to fit your ears but cheaper options are available. If you value your hearing they are worth having on you just in case you find the sound guy starts to get a bit fader happy! I speak from experience: my hearing is partially shot from attending too many loud shows. I now have tinitus particularly on my left side. The one time I remembered to take my plugs I somehow went and lost them before the show! Doh! That was the show that really finished my ears off too. :o(

However, earplugs or not, there is nothing more frustrating than having your favourite, world class musicians in front of you and not be able to hear them properly. Sadly, it happens all too often. I definitely felt that the guy on the sound desk was pushing the PA too hard at the show I attended. The thing with Joe's music is that it is so detailed and you want to catch it all. If the bass and kick drum are blowing out all over the place it smothers a lot of the other sounds because your ears can't cope with the imbalance. It's great that it's loud but it shouldn't be at the expense of the music.

From experience getting close to the stage at floor level tends to increase the bass problem. However, you were right near the sound desk and it was still a problem! I'd like to know if folks on the balconies found the sound was pretty well balanced? I may chose a seat there next time if the sound is better.

baudi67: first gig eh? I'm not laughing but I am smiling just a little. :o) However, you do make a valid point: a Satch show should serve up the music in as accessible way as possible. That means that a decent level of volume is essential but not overly so as to make it hard to figure out what's going on. I think Joe's sound crew got it pretty well spot on last tour (Super Colossal) but pushed the levels up more this time around. You should definitely have had some plugs on you though. Make sure you get some and try them out next time around.

Personally, I love a concert to be loud but that doesn't mean I like distorted sound from overcooked PA systems. I know great sound can be achieved. I saw Steely Dan last summer at the Bimingham NIA Academy. Awesome show and awesome sound; loud but clear as a bell. I would also sight Joe's Super Colossal gig at St. David's Hall Cardiff in 2006 as one of the best sounding shows I've ever heard.

After the show in Cardiff this year I turned to the guy next to me and asked how he had liked his first Joe gig? "Very loud" he replied! Nuff said.

Satriella: Glad you survived the shows. Next time around I'll try and do a couple of shows, if only to double the chance of bumping into you! :o)

Revan: I, too, saw Extreme many years ago on their Pornograffiti tour (they actually played my hometown!). Sound was crap though. The album has some very cool playing by Nuno but now I actually prefer Three Sides To Every Story. Have you heard that? (I think Tragic Comic was the single released). Nuno was on stage with Joe at the Spanish Guitar Legends do some years ago and I think I saw a vid on YouTube with Nuno and Joe playing together.

First of all keep rockin! You are the best! But anyway my guitar has a floyd rose and it gives me a ton of trouble. I go through a pack of strings a week and whenever I tune my guitar to a different setting it moves causing all my strings to go out of tune and when I tune it again it just keeps on moving and eventually my strings snap or it just keeps on repeating over and over. Is this a problem for all guitars with a floyd rose? or is it wierd and I should trade it in? also me and my friend both play guitar and we wrote and recorded some songs (just two guitars) you can go to myspace.com/scordersen project and check it out. It would mean so much to me and my friend if you would. thank you very much! with great respect- David Scordato

one more thing to get off my chest. I believe that you are the perfenct example and idol of guitar players. Not only does your playing and licks sound cool. you structure all your solos and make everything actually make sense musically unlike a lot of other players out there. Not only those amazing attributes you really feel the music and put your soul into it! that's what music is really about! Not just moving your fingers fast but playing beautiful music with your heart. I just wanted to say how much of an Idol you are to me and an inspiration to all of my guitar playing and you inspire all aspects of my music. wheter it is my saxaphone, clarinet, piano, drums, bass, or guitar(my main instrument). You truly are the greatest. once again, with great respect and burning desire to be even half of what you are today- David Scordato P.S. sorry for all the seperate messages! I :)
