Tuesdayschild - Awesome...Octavarium is one of my favorite DT albums. It might be #3, but it's so hard to rank them.
Let me know what you think after you give it a few listens. Systematic Chaos is on the heavier side for the band...Octavarium has heavy moments too, but there's a lot of lighter stuff as well. So let me know which side of the band you like better and I can recommend other albums for you.
Or, actually, they just released a 2-CD greatest hit (no, that's not a typo) album...the first disc is heavy and the second disc is lighter stuff. There are many sides to Dream Theater, but this set may help you decide what things you best like about them.
And since you mentioned Glasgow Kiss...if you like the "Satch"y side of Dream Theater, check out Liquid Tension Experiment. That band is John Petrucci, Mike Portnoy and Jordan Rudess from Dream Theater, along with Tony Levin. They have two albums (LTE and LTE II)...both were recorded shortly before Jordan joined DT.
hybes - I've gone to a bunch of concerts over the last few years...I've gotten lucky and been able to see some awesome shows. You mentioned Led Zeppelin...I was at the Jimmy Page and the Black Crowes gig that was recorded for the Live at the Greek album back in 1999. Anyway, I figure it's easiest to go to concerts while I'm still young (and single, for that matter), so I'll keep going as often as I can for as long as I can.
How old are you, if I can ask? You've mentioned your wife...do you have any kids? And you've been a Satch fan since the early days, right?
I'm 25, and I've been a Satch fan since shortly after the first G3 album came out. I didn't see my first concert until the opening night of the Engines Of Creation tour, though.
Spasticpunk - I'm not sure what he used on the original recording, but Joe uses a Dunlop 535Q Crybaby on tour.

I never join anything....but I had to sign up on your site just to let you know 2 things: I watched your HD concert today and it was great; very entertaining. The other thing is that there was a shot there during that show, a closeup of you; and your guitar and hands were reflected in your shades. Having made 4 completely unsuccessful CD's myself, it struck me as a great cover for one of yours. Aloha Joe, hope ya come out to Honolulu again.

Hi, i saw your show saturday in Mainz; it was a fantastic evening; your band was great. Galen looks so sympathic on stage and is smiling all the time, Jeff also great and Stu is Stu..incredible...; thank you for such an evening !!! Greetings to all and a wonderfull tour !

I have always been curious as to what harmonicas satriani uses and even what microphone...any body have any idea? guitar is my main instrument but i also play harmonica and am wondering what brand or model is joe's weapon of choice harmonica???

I just had one of those Doh moments this morning when I found Octavarium on DVD, so there you go I already had it (although hadn't played it yet) and I've ordered it again on CD. So one for the TV...now one for the car...
Oh well I don't know about folks here but rather than download things onto MP3 I like to have a shiny new CD cover to stroke.
My music collection must be cooler than I thought!! Syst. Chaos has disappeared (I think) into my 10 year olds room, couldn't find it for my big commute this morning. Listened to Joe instead.
I think I like the lighter side (or the twiddly guitar side of things) at the moment but I do go through phases of liking much heavier stuff. Listening to 12stones at the moment too.
MikeD....I loved the concert I saw last week (was it only 8 days ago!!) when Galen kept catching someones eye, then popping this quick grin like he was all embarrassed. Then a moment later it was like he was sneaking a look back at the person to see was he still looking....so cute!
Mmmmn, I wonder is Galen single....

We have bats in our bellfree. We went out in the yard at 9:00 last night to look up at the house and see if there was any bat action. After about 10 minutes, we see a bat, thee bat, fly out from the side of the roof. Me thinks that lil' fecker has made a home under one of the eves of the roof. So now we're stuck with it untill the fall. There's no way to get up there easily to plug the holes, and you can't do it in the dark when the bat is out and about. You can't do it during the day, cause then the bat can't get out, and will either make it's way back into the house, or die in the nook it's stuck in. My husband read that if you make a lot of noise during the day, the bat won't want to stay. He read that heavy metal works well ;-) We just might try that. lol!

nickguitarmeistro: have you looked into getting your tracks up on iTunes? It's quite straightforward to do although it'll take a wee while before your tracks show up. TuneCore are the guys to use. Go to their site, set up an account and away you go. Annual fee for each album is cheap and the return is as good as you will get from selling on internet stores. I have done this for a good friend of mine. It took a while to get everything up and running but his music is now available all over the world (and not only through iTunes either; the choice is up to you). It's then up to the artist to get marketing.
Do The Stu: Octavarium is my favourite DT album. It's the only one I can really listen to from start to finish; even then, James Labrie's vocals sometimes grate a little. For me it was the album that marked DT's coming of age. It has a real maturity about it; Octavariium, the title track, is a masterpiece.

Rest in peace, Bo Diddley...
Rock pioneer Bo Diddley dies at age 79
I think this is the first musician to die who I've seen in concert (EDIT - OK, he's the second...Jonny Lang's bass player who died a few years ago was the first). Bo Diddley played a "Blues Unplugged" show at CSULB back in 2002 with guitarist Jody Williams, pianist Johnnie Johnson, and guitarist Jimmie Vaughan.
Music aside, he seemed like such a cool guy. At my show he was joking with different people in the audience and telling stories between songs. He ended up writing this improv blues song about this one woman in the crowd at the show.
But we shouldn't put his music aside, of course. Man, how many guitarists did he influence? There must be thousands...
Does anyone else have any Bo Diddley stories?

I will be going on my very first skydiving trip. They will video the jump and can put it to music. Do you have a suggestion for this. They are saying the video is about 8 minutes long.

...Yeah so wednesday morning back to peterbough to retun the monitor and for a test called an echo doppler! hey this shock I got factory bombardier used but barely it looks brand new shock and spring no shit man came home had my cmha worker help put it on i started the shock on put the bottom bolt in ,like i did it without taken the cowling -hood off or nose piece i pry the side of the machine off the ground with a 2x4 8ft piece of wood held it well i taught ron verbaly how to get the top bolt in he was good at it then he left went out toruqued it down all new nuts bolts flatwashers and lock washer hey man yeah fouck 20 year old bolts are no good bought them last week to have today when i had the help!.Its all fixed now and ready for next winter my new chainsaw was on sale for 229 dollars 50 bucks off so it,s real nice use to run them before when i use to heat with fire wood and cut up wood and cut down trees for people theirs regular poulan then theirs poulan pro i like poulan pro myself professional chu know miang! anyways great day had like 4 or 5 plate fulls heaped up at pizza hut it was good one more pizz ahut visit left for two people then east sides for lunch in july anyways time for my medicine later wolfie had 20 bucks in canadian tire money too so 70 bucks off later wolf2.

Nick-Wow I really like your music!!!! Now how can I get them on CDs? and I can try to learn some of them by ear but I would appreciate tabs! I would also like to hear you try some Joe songs! I think you could nail them!
John-Well its the last week of skool, (but I still have finals the next week but they are half days so I can get on the computer at our usual time.) My digital Imagery teacher hasn't let me on the computer so I haven't been able to chat. I can see that you like Nick's music too, he is really good. And he comes up with his music. I am not very good at writing songs.
I am trying to learn the arpeggio of Mystical Potato Head Groove Thing and I can get so frusterated. But I can get some of it. I need some better distortion because I can never hear the high E string unless the gain is VERY high.
After I have seen the latest podcast I have been listening to a lot of Paul Gilbert, I also just heard Glasgow Kiss by John Petrucci and now I have been listening to him a lot. I thnk I am going to try to learn Glasgow Kiss, But it's amazing how he picks every note.
Well that's a long enough message for me so LATER!

Blue Moon - yep, kudos to your friend. Shame about the Pedal board, I got kicked out of the stage area about 1 minute after the Cardiff gig (would have been an easy shot too as the stage is so low)... ah well
JS1200JS1000 - am used to V6 using a little more gas than most... if you use the loud pedal a lot LOL Nightmare on the window tinting, hope you get it sorted. Driving a dull model Audi at the mo, having sold my Mitsi Evo 6 Ltd last autumn... sob
