Joe, I read your interview in the May '08 issue of the British magazine, "Guitar&Bass", and I was both annoyed and disturbed. I'm referring to your interaction with Clapton.

He's an insecure a-hole plain& simple. Now granted, I've been a loyal fan of yours for 19 years, but the fact is he shouldn't have treated you that way. You're friggin' Joe Satriani, & you can blow him away, any day of the week in any style, and he knows it! That's why he acted that way.

I met you at a Tower Records in Carle Place about 16 years ago during "The Extremist" tour. I even spoke with your mom briefly. You were totally cool, nice and HUMBLE. You took the time to sign my Extremist song book as well as several photos-and I'm a nobody! Seriously, I was so disappointed in Clapton after reading that; I don't want to listen to him anymore. If Hendrix is our "founding father" of modern virtuoso electric guitar, then you are a direct descendant who bears the torch and continues the tradition. Like Hendrix, Coltrane, Beck, Santana, Zakk Wylde, all brilliant musicians, you are modest and down to earth. It actually makes you dig the music even more knowing that the guy plays like that and is totally cool about it. Anyway, sorry to carry on. The new record is great. My favorite track is "Andalusia". The acoustic part sounds Di Meola influenced but your voice comes through unmistakably as always. Thanks,

K. Fretwell, M.D. Floral Park, N.Y.

Newspapers run ads about fake airline Derrie-Air

DEBORAH YAO, AP Business Writer 2 hours, 16 minutes ago

PHILADELPHIA - Derrie-Air has been exposed. Readers of The Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Daily News opened their papers Friday to see ads for a new airline called Derrie-Air, which purportedly charges passengers by the pound.

But the new carrier will never get off the ground. It's a one-day advertising campaign about a fake airline by Philadelphia Media Holdings, the papers' owner, and Gyro ad agency.

In light blue banners throughout the papers — as well as on their Web site, Philly.com — Derrie-Air cheerily trumpets its policy: The more you weigh, the more you pay. The ads direct readers to the Web site http://www.flyderrie-air.com.

Philadelphia Media Holdings spokesman Jay Devine said the goal is to "demonstrate the power of our brands in generating awareness and generating traffic for our advertisers, and put a smile on people's faces."

The company will track traffic to the Derrie-Air site. Devine said there's already buzz about the campaign on online blogs.

Visitors to the airline site learn that Derrie-Air is the world's only carbon-neutral luxury airline, and it justifies its fare policy by saying that it takes more fuel to move heavier objects. The carrier pledges to plant trees to offset every pound of carbon its planes release into the atmosphere.

Derrie-Air's sample rates range from $1.40 per pound to fly from Philadelphia to Chicago to $2.25 per pound to fly from Philadelphia to Los Angeles.

Those who scroll to the bottom of the home page find out the truth behind Derrie-Air.

A disclaimer labels the ad campaign "fictitious" and says it is designed "to test the results of advertising in our print and online products and to stimulate discussion on a timely environmental topic of interest to all citizens."

"In other words," it says, "smile, we're pulling your leg."

Do the Stu

In my opinion, some did not belong on the list - others were too high, others too low.

But that is just one group's opinion - something worth discussing.

Neat list though - they are generally interesting.

Hey Joe, I am 12 years old and I'm a big Ibanez fan. I currently have a '77 artist and I am getting a Js1200. I want to go to a concert but there is no concert in new york or around that area now. If there is one, where would I be able to get my guitars signed(Backstage, driveway, before concert on stage)?

P.S: How do you play Cool#9?

JOE:

MY 14 YEAR OLD SON IS AN UP AND COMING FAST FINGERED GUITARIST. WE ARE RESEARCHING DIFFERNT CAMPS LIKE POWER CHORD ACADEMY AND SCHOOL OF ROCK TYPES BUT IT IS DIFFICULT TO DETERMINE THE LEGITIMATE PROGRAMS. CAN YOU RECOMMEND A SUMMER PROGRAM OR CAMP THAT WOULD ACCELERATE HIS LEARNING CURVE? PREFERABLY IN THE WESTERN HALF OF THE U.S. OR CHICAGO AREA.

THANKS.... PAUL

Ken....I'm so sorry to hear that about your dad, bless his soul. You know lots of people will keep you and your family in their thoughts and prayers. Take care.

Chelle....I love that Bad Horsie vid, it's bad ass, just like the song! Happy birthday little Stevie!!

Someone asked if Dream Theater was an instrumental group...well...nooooo....they have vocals for almost every song they do....I don't know their earlier catalogue, but what I've heard so far there are vocals in every song. But they do have stretches of time in songs that are just the instruments playing....anyway, they're fantastic and you should check them out!

And now since I'm on this trip, we all might as well go for Paradigm Shift.
