Kilgelec - I expected the US tour dates to be posted any day now. Actually, I think we've all been looking for them for a few weeks...so maybe there was a scheduling conflict or something that had to be worked out first.

The Vai/Malmsteen G3 thing was just a joke...that was the lineup back in 2003. Personally, I don't know who I'd like for the next G3...it seems a bit early to be thinking about it. I'd love to see Steve Morse do it, but he's always so busy with Deep Purple so I don't know if that'll ever happen. Andy Timmons would also be very cool.

I'm a big Steve Vai fan, but I'm actually fine with him not doing G3 for a while. I've seen him and Joe jam quite a bit, and it's nice to see other people with Satch instead. What about you?

hybes - You're right about Stranglehold...that's a great riff. I don't know if it's well known enough to end up on an all-time list, though.

I've been listening to a lot of Deep Purple in my car lately, and one of my favorite riffs is Knockin' At Your Back Door. I actually like it more than the Smoke On The Water riff, but I could never rank it higher on a list for the same reason as Stranglehold.

cheese101 - Thanks for posting that video.........and for in the process, rubbing in the fact that the NAMM anniversary concert took place all of 1,500 feet from where my apartment is and I knew nothing about it at the time. It was a private show, so I might not have been able to get in, but it still hurts. ;-)

yer welcome Austin ;)

Oh, and dunno if this is a change or not, but Joe recently mentioned the US tour and said that it will start late fall....so I'm thinkin maybe more like October-ish they'll hit the road? Plus Joe is doing Chickenfoot some time in August-ish....But yeah, Jon promised tour dates would be coming soon, and that was awhile ago, so yer prolly right about that, there's a hold up somewhere....dangit!!

Do The Stu,

I have never seen any of them in concert so anyone would be fine with me! Just as long as Joe is there!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As a matter of fact, try not to laugh to hard, I have only been to one concert in my life and I'm not saying what that was! Yes, is pathetic, I know..... I'm just now where I can afford to do such things.

Anyone know if the airlines let you "carry-on" a guitar for domestic flights? I have to go to Arkansas for some training this coming week and I don't want my fingers to soften up, again because of lack of playing. Maybe there is a place out there that I can rent one for a week... hmmmmmmmm

RIP Tim Russert

I always like to listen to that guy...

Kilgelec, I think whatever you carry on has to fit in the overhead storage. You can prolly check it, but then who knows how it's gonna be handled. I say google music stores wherever you're going, and just stop in and play every other day or so. lol! Either that, or buy a pack of bass strings to carry with you and rub yer fingers on them throughout the day. LOL! I'm sure there's a seasoned guitar player on here who can answer yer q waaaay better than I have. lol!

Sammy Hagar told the Canadian Press in a recent interview, that he has teamed up with acclaimed guitarist Joe Satriani, drummer, Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Michael Anthony, to form a super group dubbed as "Chickenfoot". Sammy said, the group has already written 8 songs, and plan to be in studio before Labor Day 2008. "When people hear the music, it’s Led Zeppelin. It’s as good as that. I know that’s a mighty bold statement… We could rival Zep." When asked about Van Halen, Sammy said this, "I’m really not interested in being in that band right now. I’m so much more interested in our little Chickenfoot project".

"To me that’s 10 times Van Halen, because it’s functional, we all like each other."

Yer just so funny-ish :|

I'm listening to Achilles Last Stand right now, which I say is Led Zeppelin's best song by far. Who agrees?

cheese101 - Do you remember where you heard/read the news about the later start to the US tour (other than the conflicting scheduling info mentioned by Sammy Hagar)? If we have new information, it'd be great to know for sure.

I think it's just about at the point where we can rule out a late-August start to the tour (good news for me, as I have other concert commitments then). That's only two months from now, and that's a rather short lead time. I guess we'll find out at some point. ;-)

I don't mind at all if Chickenfoot is pushing everything back. I'm really excited to hear what they can come up with after spending quality time writing and recording.

I think it'd work out where Joe can finish the international PSATMOR tour, record with Chickenfoot, do the US PSATMOR tour, and then maybe tour with Chickenfoot (depending on how the album does)?

That all sounds good to me, as long as the break in Joe's solo tour doesn't result in Stu leaving/being replaced.

gotta have Joe - I hope you like Jello... ;-) I had my wisdom teeth removed in either 2000 or 2001 and it went rather smoothly. Don't stop taking your pain meds, and keep ice on your mouth for as long as possible.

I made the mistake of letting up on the drugs and the ice after about the first 24 hours, and that made days two and three really rough.

Let us know how you're doing...

Kilgelec - How old are you, if I can ask? And how long ago was your only concert? I'll make a few guesses... And I hope you're able to catch Satch the next time he plays in your area, too.

And michelle answered your question, but...

I don't know how things have changed post-9/11, but prior to that it was fairly easy to take a guitar on a plane. I've never done it, but you take it through security like a carry-on and then hand it to a flight attendant once you get on the plane. It usually gets stored in a closet somewhere up front.

I only fly somewhere once or twice a year, but I don't recall seeing even one guitar on a plane since 9/11. I guess maybe the strings can be considered weapons? I'd call your airline and ask. I guess you could bring one without strings, and then just buy a pack when you get to wherever you're going. But that's a hassle...so I think your plan of just going to a local store is the best decision.

tjguitar001 - Hi...welcome to the site. Tell us a bit about yourself...how'd you get into Satch?

Joe's biggest influence is Jimi Hendrix. Joe quit the football team the day he heard Jimi died and focused on guitar 100%. And from there, well... ;-)
