ibanezguitars - I've never heard of The Smoking Stones until now, but they do sound pretty good. Do you know where they're from? Do they play in the US often/at all?

And it's cool to see you mention Battle Of Evermore...I like that LZ song a lot. I don't think it'd make my top 10, but it'd be in the top 25.

BigBunny - Thanks for taking the time to put that together...it's really cool to see the progression there.
Mahavishnu - Awesome...those pictures are great. And I'm jealous; you're so close! The Gorge is a beautiful venue...I need to see a show there sometime.
Tuesdayschild - I've heard Tesla's cover of Thank You. That's on their covers album they released recently, right? They do a version of Aerosmith's Seasons Of Wither on that which is also very good.

A quick glance at the Wikipedia page for Thank You tells me The Flaming Lips and Tori Amos have both covered the song...I'll have to find those somewhere and give them a listen.

Anyway, about the girl...I don't know! Well, I have a bit of an idea. I'm a few years older than she is, we don't really live near each other, and most of our closest mutual friends have graduated college and moved out of town. And regarding the gig, she has plans earlier that day that involve a lot of driving...so she doesn't want to do more driving after that. I've offered to pick her up, but I think she feels weird because it's out of my way and we don't know each other too well. But I still have a few weeks to figure something out. Hopefully she'll come around...we'll see.

Geeze...I'm making my life sound like a soap opera. ;-)

hybes - Yeah, coming up with a list of top Led Zep songs is tough. I have enough trouble ordering their albums from most favorite to least favorite...and there are only nine of those! Presence is No. 1 for me, but it gets difficult after that.

I have a feeling our lists of LZ favorites would be pretty similar. I've been on a big In Through The Out Door kick lately, so I completely agree with Carouselambra being up there. I also really like For Your Life...as a quick aside, I was really excited that they played that song at their reunion gig last year. Most of my favorites are their funkier songs...Hots On For Nowhere, The Wanton Song and Candy Store Rock, to name a few. I also love how they mix electric and acoustic...so there you have Ten Years Gone, Stairway To Heaven, and the song I feel best represents Led Zeppelin, Over The Hills And Far Away.

Man...what an amazing band.

sidman - Wow...if you're serious about giving your guitar to Joe, you should contact his manager: http://www.mickbrigden.com/

It sounds like a cool guitar...do you have any photos of it?

Kilgelec - Hmmm...so it was in 1994 or so? I'll start with the obvious potentially embarrassing ones: New Kids On The Block? MC Hammer? Vanilla Ice? ;-)

Here are my thoughts on the whole Zep discussion. One of my favourite tracks has to be Achilles Last Stand, although Dazed and Confused on the DVD was one of those 'mouth hanging open' moments. Immigrant Song was the first one that really got me into them...and then there's Listening to an original LP version of When the Levee Breaks after the New Orleans disaster. Apt. Anyone got the Plant-Krauss album? Quite good for an album classed as 'country'. =D

Mahavishnu: Great pics!

Guitarist magazine put Gilmour's Comfortably Numb as no.1 in the top 50 guitar tones. (Ice 9 made it in at 30 something...) Personally, I think they should look again with Revelation in mind =D

Oh yes, thatnks to those wonderful exams, I now feel rather ill :(

Do the Stu - Unfortunately I ca only snatch computer time at work or atthe library at the moment, so getting my pics on-line is very difficult....but I will as soon as possible....I have some really great shots from the gigs!

Ibanezguitars - Yes it was aweome....It was just the most incredible week.....and Its almost like a dream now....but I am safe in the knowledge that this was one dream that came true!

loll - this place is like a diary of my life....as well as a chat to Joe.....I have made some very good friends here and If people read my posts then fantastic if they enjoy em...glad you did!

Cliff - Great to meet you by pure fluke at the London Guitar Show....hope you had a stonking time on the Sunday as well....let me know how it went...please email that link sounds great!

Oh my god WOW!

What a great day at the London Guitar Show

I got there at 9am....not many were there but I got my ticket and proceeded to be the first in the queue....at ths point the big garage type doors were open and I could see some stands, I stood talking to security....anyway the doors closed and I stood listening to Jo on my ipod.....then it was ten....and they opned the other garage door so I had to scoot round and be at the back ....well the middle of the queue!....Still once in I was very excitedly looking round at all the great stands and gathering plentymungus of free stuff, a bag, a t-shirt (yes and this time I didn't even have to hastle a poor guy all day to get one!....this was a vox one...where joe would be later that day), 3 pens a pencil, 2 picks, posters, 3 keyrings....fabulous....oh my god...then I stopped at the Marshall stand and entered a competition...and got a pass into an intimate 30 people , invite only gig with Paul Gilbert...at 12.30 aaaaaaaaaaaaagh!!!!

So got there early about quarter to twelve and was second in the queue behind a grea chinese guy....forgot to get his name, but he hadn't seen Paul before so he was very excited, the time flew by as we chatted and we went in...wel at the London Astoria was about 3 feet from Paul and I didn't think I could ever get any closer....

wrong!

now I was about two feet and the stage was about two feet lower too....so I was literally cuddling him this time....it was great although it did make getting shots awkward as it was hard to get the guitar and the face in....but I did get some great ones which I will post asap...but that may be quite a while...he did Norwegian Cowbell, the Gargoyle,...the bach piece ...all the time having a really funny chat inbetween about how great the smell of a new amp is and how great marshall were and how you have to play them on stage not in your bedroom....he spoke about doing major plumbing work in his new house....oh and how the Who had a great line "I hope I die before I get old" or something like that and he said he used to thinkthat was great, except now that he is old...he hope he doesnt die coz he just wants to keep playing guitar! then he asked for requests...but of course he is quite dear so he could hear anyone except me who was right next to him...so I asked for 3 times rana...which he tried to do but couldn't remember the words very well so I said red house, this time he was pleased, he expressed that he is not very confident about his voice but with blues it doesn't matter coz you just talk, and of course, Jimi is one of his heroes so I expect he has been playing the tune most of his life....oh yeah...he said that when he was younger it was quite rebellious to be a guitar player and he used to worry that the football players were gonna beat him up, but now you are not a rebel to be a guitar player anymore...I think he was quite disappointed about that LOL...ayway he played it real good...he then went on to play scarified and technical difficulties and a few others...oh yeah he said that it was great that bach was dead coz he could nick his tunes LOL Anyway it was an amazing unexpected gig!

so aer that I wazzed over to the main stage and caught Guthrie Govan do another 4 or five songs then he came back on with Billy Sheehan and did some numbers....then it was time for the Paul Gilbert gig proper.

He tried to start as before with Norwegian Cowbell, but the disc kept slipping, so while they were sorting it out he did a great version of Down to Mexico just on his own....then they tried to start the disc again...but again it started skipping in the same place....so he said "OK what shall I do now....(thinking) Oh I know" and he proceeded to play Red House, but he must have been thinking about it, coz this time he really got into it and played a longer version YAY!!!! Muchly big grin on my face....anyway again Stonkingly fantastic gig!

So now I had something to eat and chatted with the guy who will b doing a 3-d plan of the show next year, he did the floor plan this year and the artwork so that was cool.

I then started queueing for the Joe Satriani signing...but I was way at the back so started chatting with acouple in front of me....well after a while it was established that we kinda knew each other from the talk to joe board...it was CLIFF....we chatted and chatted for ages...but while we were talking I noticed a guy talking to Stu Hamm to the left, so I got out a pen and Dreaming album cover....but he had gone....Oh flip...so we carried on chatting....then Geoff and Stu were standing talkin to some people further back YAY....I thanked Jeff for putting the chicken hat on stage..."oh that was yours was it" he said "dont worry it is safe with the rubber chicken, I only have one now coz the other one lost its voice!" hehe I thanked Stu too for coming back and begged him to stay, he said it looked like he was going too...anyway they both signed the dreaming cover and I had a photo with them both and a hug and a kiss! Then I saw Mick who pointed at me and said "Satriella" and I called him over as I had a message to give to him...

Time was ticking and it was looking like we wouldn't get to see Joe....but thankfully we made it...I didn't get time for a photo with him but he signed the Dreaming cover, then a kindly guy from the vox stand took a pic of me and Cliff with Joe in the background inbetween us...its a great shot!

I then wazzed over to the main stage and caught the last couple of Yngwie tunes which was great too coz I didn't think I was gonna get to see him as he clashed with the Joe signing!

Great day....great day....Paul Gilbert...twice....wow...and up close and personal...wow....he played my request....

Satriella....drifts off into dreamland!

You are a lucky girl ! Red House up close and personal !
I think Paul is in love with this song. I do also think a good feeling between Joe and Paul keeps growing and feeds my hope to see both, and Steve Vai in the next G3. At least I hope so.

Come on dude, I'm not that pathetic!!!! However, New Kids on the Block are coming to Atlanta area in October. Want me to get you some tickets? ;) I'll give you a hint, it wasn't just one band and no it wasn't anything cool like Ozzfest, though I'd love to go to that one! Too bad it is just a one location event this year. Keep guessing....

JOE....

Please come to Atlanta on your US tour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do the Stu - It's kinda sad when people are so wary of other people that they can't accept a kindness, but it's probably not really her fault it's the world we live in.

Maybe you could let her sort her own transport, then just meet her at the venue....less threatening for her and you get the chance to show her what a nice guy you really are!!

Danger is, she won't go, as she's got other commitments earlier that day. I say, don't worry about that wait for the next gig and invite her to that instead. The long game works best sometimes.....

Happy Father's Day, Joe and everyone!

Igneousiceman - It's good to see another person likes Achilles Last Stand. ;-) That Led Zeppelin DVD is such a great one. I actually don't think I've watched it in two years or so...I need to fix that. I also have the re-released The Song Remains The Same DVD that I haven't watched (although I did go to a movie theater showing of it last year on its re-release day).

I don't have the newest Robert Plant album, but I did buy the box set he released a few years ago that contains all of his other solo albums. It's called Nine Lives, and is a great collection of everything.

Satriella - Thanks again for the review...and for the AWESOME (hopefully) news about Stu .
Kilgelec - Hehehe, OK...so it's not one of the most embarrassing things out there. Was it something like the Warped Tour, or maybe Lollapalooza?
CristinaIt - Hmmm...that link isn't working for me. It looks like michelle can see your photos though, so I guess I'll try again later.
Matiuz - The videos are available through the Podcast link from the home page.
Tuesdayschild - I'll work something out...I have a few different ideas. It stinks dragging things out though...I mean it's already been quite a while. I met her last November...we talk online every now and then, but I've only seen her once or twice since then.

At an absolute minimum, she'd be a good concert buddy. She's the only 20-something woman I've ever met who LOVES the band Rush. And this is before your time here at T2J, but that's a good thing (read the last paragraph of my reply to 962...haha).

Anyway, thanks for your comments...I'll keep you posted. ;-)

chojuaniche - Very cool...I think that's one of the most creative Satch-related videos I've ever seen.

...Austin...
