Checking back a few days later to see if any feedback. loll, thanks for that info on those concert ear-plugs. never knew such things existed. Email me loll please with more info, add @hotmail.com to my username with "earplugs" in subject line. Appreciate it.

Njbeast, as you and I know we all claim to be his biggest fan. All i know is I bought every CD/DVD he ever produced. I am in Vegas now playing in the world series of poker. I am in my hotel room with a Sony CD walkman listening to "Strange Beautiful Music" right now, trying to relax. Its intense here. I play poker for a living and spend 6 months a year travelling from venue to venue to ply my trade. I came home last New Years Eve, not having been online in maybe a month and saw Joe was coming to Dublin. I phoned and only 6 tickets were left - I bought them all, and while taking girlfriend and family and 2 friends to it in May, I also introduced two new fans to Joes music (notwithstanding the poor inaudible concert that was Dublin that night)

I wish life were so simple that recreation took precedence to work. In my life (and most people's) its the other way round. Peace brother, Im not a threat. Just giving important feedback so Joe can improve his concerts, and win new fans. I still stand by what I said. That night in Dublin was a disaster concert-wise.

Anyway, back to the poker tables for me shortly. Peace.

do the stu - it looks like there's more to it all than I thought...Hope you get it sorted out soon.

I bought Dream Theatre/Octavarium as you suggested and I'm listening to Track one right now....I usually need to listen to it a few times to get into it properly.

I also got the book that was recommended to me about guitar scales and modes, and I find it very easy to understand (although playing it is another matter) but it's something for me to work on.....I get the mode thing now.

In fact, weirdly, I sing in a church choir in an anglican church (quite traditional) and upon talking to some of other choristers, some who are highly educated in music theory, and one particular member is also a member of an operatic society, I find that hymns are often written in the Dorian Mode....

So Joe Satriani and JS Bach have a direct link between them!! Probably nothing new to you guys but I find that brilliant!!

Hello everyone,

Friday the 13th of june my girlfriend and I went to a show of Joe Satriani at Paradiso, Amsterdam. What a great show! It was the first time I saw Joe live and he played great! But there were also some disappointments…. First of all, we were sitting on the left balcony….and guess where Joe played? Right, also on the left side…so every time he used his effects and pedals we could see him barely. Why is he not playing in the center or a bit more to the right side of the stage? I think he should know where his fans are and make sure everyone can see as much as they can.

Afterwards we want to take a picture with Joe and let him sign a cd. We went to some crew member and asked if this was possible. He said “I don’t know, we should leave in 30 minutes…I don’t know where Joe is”….so we walked outside to the tour busses and asked another crewmember. He said “Do you have tickets for the after show?”…of course we didn’t had those, I even didn’t know we had to buy tickets….So apparently you only can take a picture with you IF you pay for it. The crewmembers were very arrogant and rude.

It made me so mad….we waited for about 45 minutes after the show, we asked some crewmembers but it just seemed impossible to take a picture with Joe and let him sign something! All we wanted was a picture and a signed cd, that takes 2 minutes….I bought all his cd’s, dvd’s, I have one of his signature guitar so I spend about more than € 2000,- euro’s to buy all his stuff. Why did I buy this? Because he’s a great guitar player, he always seems nice in interviews and stuff and I thought he deserved it…But now I know better…

So his last cd is the last cd I bought. I’m not gonna buy stuff from artists who don’t make time for their fans and realize that all the success they have is because of their fans. So if he releases new stuff…what I’m gonna do? Right, download it. I’m not spending any more money to him.

And what’s the deal with the expensive merchandise? I wanted to buy some cool stuff but it’s soo expensive. A signed poster €10,- euro! A simple pick… €3,- euro! For 1 pick! Come on! That’s ridicules! I can afford it but it’s against my principles….Why not ask €1,- euro for a pick? He still earns on that and a lot more people would buy it.

I also went to Steve Vai, and well…he came outside after some time to take pictures with fans….I also met Dave Weiner and he was giving picks away for free! I met Tom DeLonge 1 month ago and I talked with him for about 20 minutes…Why do those artists make time for their fans? Because they know that they buy their stuff and support them….

Joe is still my favorite guitar player but he totally blew it that evening. I will keep listening to his music but I will never buy anything from him again….I want a apologize from him or his management before I buy cd’s again and go to his show…

All I want to say with this is that I find it ridicules that such an artist as Joe won’t make time for their fans. Don’t say that everyone wants a picture and sign things because we waited about 45 minutes…everyone was gone, except me and about 10 other fans so the least thing he could do was make some time….

Greetz!

I don't know if you'll listen to anyone about Joe or not, but here goes....

For an aftershow pass, no you do NOT have to purchase those. Believe me, if they were for sale, hundreds of those would sell for every show and Joe would NEVER get to his next gig. There is a drawing done for each show to win FREE aftershow passes, did you register for that drawing for the show you attended? If not, then at least you know now to do that for the next time, if there is a next time.

There are also special tickets you CAN purchase, called Club Joe tickets, which allows you early entry into the venue, the best seats AND time spent with Joe, both in a group question and answer forum, and then one-on-one time with him. Those tickets are expensive, but very worth it. Steve Vai sells them too, as does Dream Theater, as well as many other bands. So you could choose to be guaranteed to meet Joe if you want to purchase a special ticket for Club Joe.

Every single fan of Joe's wants to meet him, even if only for a quick hello and an autograph. You are no different from anyone else, we all spend money buying Joe's cd's and concert tickets, as well as other merchandise. We do that because we love Joe, his music and the products he promotes, NOT because we think he owes us anything such as a guarantee of meeting him after a concert.

I believe, had you waited there at the tour buses awhile longer, that you might have met Joe after all. 45 minutes isn't long enough to wait. Joe isn't sitting inside ignoring people after his concerts, he's busy doing the aftershow meet and greets, and taking care of any bits of business that might need his attention before he can even THINK about sleeping and trying to rest up for the next gig. It can take him up to two hours or so to even head out to the bus after a show. Touring is absolutely exhausting...and yet Joe is more than happy to meet the fans that wait out at the tour buses, take pictures, sign autographs, shake hands. You just didn't wait long enough. Too bad for you that you didn't know.

Joe is one of the kindest and most humble musicians you could ever want to meet, and truely appreciates his fans, as he knows very well he'd be nowhere without them. He is one of the most accessible musicians out there and does his best for everyone, despite his exhausting schedule.

We were recently at a FREE in-store appearance that Joe did....he played songs and did a clinic to teach about guitar and music....did I mention this was FREE?? He did 11 clinics, 11 nights in a row all across the US, and paid for the entire thing himself as a way to get out and promote his newest album and meet as many fans as possible. And let me tell you, there were many many people who didn't even make it inside the building to hear Joe because the place just couldn't hold them all. Afterwards, Joe signed autographs, shook hands, took pictures with the fans....and he did this for EVERYONE who was there, even those people who stood in line outside and never made it into the show. He made sure everyone was taken care of to the best of his capability.

Shit happens.....you didn't get to meet him this time, maybe you'll get lucky the next time, if you decide to stop being a spoiled brat about it and go see him the next time he's playing there. As for downloading his music.....do whatever your conscience tells you to do, although do it understanding that you are stealing from Joe, one of the nicest people on this planet. That speaks to your character.

Just got back from London from the most amazing birthday weekend ever! My Fiancee treated me to the whole thing - hotel, tickets to the London Guitar Show on Sat and then a ticket to see Joe for the first time on Sunday - yayyyy!!!

Friday was great, met up with my uncle who I hadn't seen for 8 years and was great to see him. Saturday was fantastic - saw some of the LickLibrary guys in concert - Jamie Humphries, Dave Kilminster and Guthrie Govan were all amazing. Guthries playing was effortless and Billy Sheehan complimented him during his set which is a compliment indeed!

Paul Gilbert played next and as Satriella has already stated there were some 'Technical Difficulties' (sorry, couldn't resist!) but he handled it very well and played Down To Mexico and Red House unaccompanied. He didn't have a go at any of the sound guys but kept everything rolling along until the CD was sorted and off he went into some jaw dropping playing as if nothing had happened. I'm definitely going to get some more of Pauls CD's after seeing him play.

The next dilemma was that Yngwie Malmsteen was playing after 4 as was Chad Smith from the Chili Peppers on another stage. I'm not a massive fan of Yngwie but he's a fantastic player and showman but I love the Chili Peppers as well. As we had a 1/2 hour to kill we went back into the main exhibition and wandered over to the Vox stand to check the Satchurator pedal out. My Fiancee overheard someone say that Joe was doing a demo and a signing there at 4.30 so that was Yngwie and Chad out of the window!

We started queueing and were about 2/3's of the way round when Joe came on and started talking. I went to take some pics and listen and then rejoined the queue and got chatting to a girl in a Joe t-shirt - it was Satriella!

Once the signing started the queue formed at the other side with no one from Vox trying to sort out any order for the queue that had been standing for 20mins. Turns out as a result we were now at the back! Grrr! Anyways, as it inched forward Joes Manager came over and said 'Hi' to Satriella, Stu and Jeff appeared and said 'Hi' to her as well (my claim to fame before this was I'd met Dave Prowse at school when I was 7 before realising he was the guy who played Darth Vader). His manager said he might have to go before we could get anything signed. I thought 'nevermind, he's got a schedule to keep' and they were all being pretty friendly and chatting with people.

Before I knew it we were at the front and a guy in front asked me to take a picture of him and Joe. I took 2 after passing my copy of 'SWTA' to Satriella so I could get a good shot and then his manager was ushering me up to Joe! I passed him the album and asked how he was doing and he said he was great, shook my hand and then asked my name and signed an autograph for me and then posed whilst my fiancee took a picture of us. I was in a total blur at this point!

I've got to say that I'm sure that he stayed longer to try and sign as many autographs as he could and his crew were very personable and not being over the top with people but were trying to ensure that he had some down time as well but they were excellent the way they were trying to accomodate people.

That ended Saturday after I got a quick photograph with Satriella and then it was looking forward to the gig on Sunday!

The gig on Sunday was fantastic - after reading some of the posts on T2J I brought some ear plugs along to try and used them on Sat and Sun and was amazed that it wasn't the muffled experience I thought that it would be. When Joe came on it was very surreal, we were quite close to the front so had a good view for most of the gig and it felt strange seeing Joe play songs I've watched on dvd loads! The one thing I enjoyed was I watched Stu, Galen and Jeff they all looked to be having a great time - Jeff never stopped smiling, Galen looked as if he was totally locked into the whole thing and could probably have kept playing for twice the time and Stu was bullseye-ing picks at people in front - he either missed with one shot or the person dropped it as he mouthed 'lame' and shook his head laughing then fired another one out. These are the bits you don't see on the dvd's!

The whole bands playing was very tight the whole way through and they did some great versions of Summer Song, Cool #9, Crowd Chant and even Time Machine. Joe said that it was weird doing a gig at 12 noon so they were going to pretend it was 12 hours later. The whole concert went by so fast (1hr 20 - 30 or so) that it was over before we knew it. The guys are probably halfway over the ocean now as it was the last gig of the European leg of the tour.

It was great seeing some of the subtle stuff Joe, Galen, Stu and Jeff do up close. Galen was doing some great subtle fills and rhythm, Stu somehow seemed to keep the bassline locked tight whilst still extending the melody and keeping it recognisable, Jeff was a total powerhouse but never overplayed and kept the whole thing moving and Joe was pulling some amazing sounds out of his guitar and making it look as if it was easy!

What a great weekend! I'm totally inspired to keep practicing my guitar and learn more and more after seeing all the music this weekend!

One quick question for Joe though - How do you manage to play so well whilst your bouncing all over the stage like that??!!:)

Thanks to my Fiancee for the present and thanks to Joe, the band and all his crew the day before for making it such a great experience.

Austin, I just tried christinalt's picture link again - it still works. Must be on your end.

Cliff, great story. Sounds like you had a killer time. Glad you took the advice on the earplugs. It's great to have them just in case. Sometimes it depends on where you're at in the venue, the sound can be very overpowering, so plugs can literally save the show. I'd love to see the pic of you and Joe if you can post it. Yer fiancee done well!!!

I had a lovely afternoon with my mom & pop, and a few family members. My sister said something funny that really tickled my pop's funny bone, and he laughed so hard...I haven't seen him laugh like that for so long. We all needed that. He got his PET scan yesterday, and they gave him a film to keep. He brought it here to show us. Fucking cancer man. He has a huge black spot where his tumor is, and then some more black spots up higher. We'll have to wait to see what the doc says on Tuesday. I wasn't sure what I was looking at, but it didn't look good at all. Ahh well, cherish every day. It's all you can do...

The thing is Satch wouldn't automatically turn you into a guitar god, He would give you some scales and techniques, but it's all about practice and repitition. Check out some vids on youtube, his lessons really work, (who knew practice works? :P)

Well skool is over but I still have to take geometry again over the summr, I HATE GEOMETRY!!!!!!!!! How well did Joe do in geometry? Anyway hopefully it will be easier the second time around.

railton-Great vids, also how do you do those card tricks? plz tell me!!

Well off to beat Ninja Gaiden II

I can't wait to go to your show. Please, answer me.

I'm listening to Rush's Presto now...what do other fans here think of their song Superconductor? I really like it, it'd be one of my favorites from the album, but I have a feeling most Rush fans think it's one of the worst things they've done...

Suzie2000 - I think Joe has two Satchurator prototypes in his live rig.
Tuesdayschild - Dream Theater albums usually take me a long time to digest as well, but I've found their last two pretty easy to "get". I loved Octavarium right away, and I knew right away that Systematic Chaos wouldn't be one of my favorites. I still listen to that one quite a bit, but it falls toward the bottom of their list of albums for me.

I'd love to hear what you think of Octavarium after a few more listens. My early favorite from the album was These Walls...now I probably like The Root Of All Evil the most. Sacrificed Sons is another favorite...and then of course there's the title track.

Cliff - Thanks to you as well for sharing your thoughts on the London Guitar Show. It's cool to read all of these reviews...between them and all of the clips posted on YouTube it feels like I've already been to a few shows this tour.
CristinaIt - I tried your link again (thanks, michelle!) and wow, I think those may be the best photos I've seen so far this tour. Thanks for sharing them...
gotta have Joe - Yeah, the holes in your mouth will feel weird for a bit...it takes a while to get used to them, but then they'll be gone.

For the next few days be cautious of how you yawn...the occasional one won't do anything, but try to avoid any huge chimp- or hippo-sized yawns. You won't rip your mouth open or anything like that, but it will hurt quite a bit...trust me. ;-)

Anyway...how's life going otherwise? Are things good?

...Austin...
