So I'm a bit slow, but we passed 100,000 members here recently...cool!

Joe Satrini - I'm not sure about Banana Mango taking 14 years to get right. There are two versions of that, but the gap from Joe's first EP to Time Machine isn't that long. I think I remember hearing that Time has roots back in the SWTA days...maybe that's what you're thinking of? It's not quite 14 years from SWTA to CP, but it's still more than a decade...

I know JM's leaving was discussed here on T2J, but I just did a brief search and couldn't find anything. One of the posters here (PhryDom, I think it was) was able to contact JM through his website and get some info. That was then posted here, and Joe posted a reply or two. I remember JM saying he left and Joe saying he was fired; it was after a tour where JM's band Einstein was opening for Joe (or was it G3...?)...

Anyhoo, it's cool to hear that you've been into Satch for such a long time. I'm at about the 10 year mark right now...that's been a long time on its own, but it's only about half of his career so far. It would've been so cool to hear SWTA back when it was released...::sigh:: ;-)

Let me know when you get a chance to read my SC stuff...

dream3 - Haha, thanks for the info. I didn't mean to imply that no one would recognize it outside the US; I just thought maybe some other songs would be better choices. I guess it is big in the guitar community though...some guy named Jimi Hendrix is probably responsible for that.
elpp - Thanks for the info on the LTE boot...I'll have to check that out.

Yeah, this LTE mini-tour was such a surprise...it's lucky for me that they played a show so close to home, but I probably would have flown across the country to see them if I had to. As I posted here before, Acid Rain is the first John Petrucci song I heard...it was recommended by someone here at T2J ahead of the G3 2001 tour. And that really turned me on to Dream Theater and some other bands...I need to go look through the archives and see who made that first suggestion.

I graduated college two years ago, and I started working at the local newspaper (Long Beach Press-Telegram) about six months before that. I'm still doing that now, sorta, but as of three months ago I work out of Torrance and also copy edit stuff for the Daily Breeze. So it's almost twice the work for the same pay...boo. I still love it though.

I love the area here...every few months I get an itch to up and move somewhere, but it doesn't last long. A new start would be fun sometime, though, so we'll just have to wait and see...

REVAN 2008 - Hehehe...I love the explanation of your rating system. ;-) I look forward to seeing your list...

And I see you've just made a few other posts but I've gotta go...I'll get to them later.

chojuaniche - I think Joe was first associated with the Top Gun theme back when Napster was getting big. A few mislabeled MP3s can go a long way.

Starry Night is an excellent song...I miss it. It's not in my satriani.com setlist at the moment but it probably should be. It's cool to see you pick up on the Not Of This Earth / Musterion similarity. I think they'd be great in the same concert though, and they're listed 1-2 on my setlist.

You should fill out your setlist here (from the link on the main "interact" page)...I'd be interested in seeing it.

cheese101 - I remember a few months ago you were asking about the version of the Star-Spangled Banner Joe played at a NASCAR event a few years ago (I think it was you, anyway). Michelle just posted it, so...check it out!

Victoria, I didn't even know LTE existed! lol! I'll have to check it out. Sorry yer camping trip was a wash out. Independence Day is a wash out so far too. It's raining, and the fire works that were scheduled for tonight have been cancelled. We still have tomorrow's fireworks, but if it's raining, they're a wash too. We really need the rain though. It's just falling on the wrong weekend!

Hawaiian Funk

Whew - that gets the bass in my speakers booming!

Liquid Trio Experiment - Jazz Odyssey

My husband is painting our lemon yellow bathroom (eek!) a gray color called cathedral stone. It's gonna look like a bat cave by the time he's done, I just know it. lol!

Al, I had a bunch of pics printed out yesterday from the shore and stuff. I HAD to get the pic of you and Joe printed out so I can hang it next to my computer screen. That's a feckin laugh riot there I tell ya! Thanks for being such a great source of entertainment! lol!

Speaking of rain...

Hi Joe! I discovered your music in the early 90's, then your "Flying in a Blue Dream" helped me through my grieving process over my Dad's death in 1992. I read somewhere that the same CD coincided with the time near your Dad's death as well. I cannot thank you enough; in fact thanks is not really as appropriate as just telling you that your music has influenced my life and I have shared you with my family and friends both young and old and across cultures as well; also fellow guitarists and musicians, just as I share other passionate interests such as animals, science, art, etc. I take Christianity seriously, but to the effect that I know I need forgiveness, and that others deserve my love and patience, since God loves us and is patient with us. In fact, you are on my regular prayer list, as is Al Dimeola as well:). Yup, in one way or another you are around our family quite a bit. I rented from Nexflix your Live in SF concert[Super Colossal, I believe] - I've had it for weeks and it just might occupy a semi-permanent position in my repitoire for months to come:). Well, I wish your family a Happy 4th of July [I remember your Star Spangled Banner at a baseball game - saw the video:) - oh that's so much like Hendrix:). Listen, I saw you twice here in Raleigh - thanks for the signature on Flying in a Blue Dream cover - I fought my way to the front of the crowd, made 4 enemies on the way; you signed that and a Fender guitar pick plate - why didn't I use an Ibanez? :P. I would advertise you personally to several, several friends of mine if you came to Raleigh, NC again! Or nearby at least?? Oh, during some of your songs I envision legions of angels warring in the heavens with dark powers, where rays and light like living lasers flash in the clash of powers. Remember, "The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing." - Peace Out Here - Dave Parham in Raleigh NC.

Guitarman77897, no, not yet. Joe has been too busy with his European tour, a lil vacation, and now off to other parts of the world :) I imagine we'll catch up with him for it later this year, Mick is on top of things :)

Austin, yeah, thanks, I figgered out the Nascar video a bit ago, but this video from chelle was longer. Hope to see you, and possibly the family in Reno then :)

Jamie, the skinny comment came from that fact that a) you ARE tall and thin and b) you've had tooth problems where u haven't been able to eat, ergo u must be getting skinnier!! You'll blow away in a high wind if u aren't careful :)

Victoria, too bad about the lousy camping weather, but I hear what yer saying about making it home in one piece and enjoying the conveniences again :)

Do the Stu - Yep. Good headphones...especially for the price. It's amazing what MP3 players have done for the headphone market. If you ever start looking for another very good fairly inexpensive headphone...purchase the Sennheiser HD280 Pro. You sound like someone who likes some good detailed bass. You can pick these up under 100 dollars. AMAZING sound on all ends of the sound spectrum. there is one huge downside to these however. They are circumaural, meaning they actually go around your entire ear. They are not something that you'd EVER wear in public. But if you want a good listen around the house, this is arguably the best you can buy for under 100 dollars. I like those Sony's you have. They took the DJ models and shrunk them down. And you can never go wrong with Sony. Before I saved up the money to get a set of Shure's, Sony was my first In Ear Canal earbud. I think they were 49 dollars and looking back at the quality and where pricing is now....that was a steal.

I hope everyone here is enjoying a very happy and safe 4th of July.

Speaking of favorite Satch anything....I just finished listening to PSATMOR and I really think this cd is my favorite non live Satch effort from front to back.

Well Happy 4th of July everyone. The neighbors are doing illegal fireworks and I don't know how they haven't been fined yet. Especially because the police are supposed to really be cracking down on illegal fireworks. They have fireworks that shoot over 100ft high and are really really loud. There is a police station only a few blocks away, how can they not hear/see them. And there are little little kids running around, I am waiting for one to get inured, because there are only two adults and like 8 kids, around dangerous fireworks. My dogs are having heart attacks, they hear a BOOM and they hide in the closet, they dash off and come out an hour later. Happy Independance Day!!! >.<

dakawan: Cool, another LTE fan! And prog fan as well!! King Crimson intrigues me but not enough to travel to see them, and since they're only bringing crappy mainstream rock bands (Linkin Park, Trapt, Shinedown and the like, obviously Satch is a welcomed change of pace) to my neck of the woods, there's no chance of any prog bands coming here anytime soon. Heck, Dream Theather hasn't been here since 1994!!

Austin: By 2001 I already had both LTE albums, so I wouldn't be surprised if I was the culprit!! DT is now my #1 favorite band. I have to admit I had a fallout with Satch after seeing him on the tour he did with Kings X and DT, hopefully this show will rekindle the flame. BTW, since I haven't bought any Satch CD's since Strange Beautiful Music, which one would u recommend I get first? (I take it it's probably not Super Colossal!! jaja). In exchange for this recommendation, I'll advise you to check out Symphony X. Specially their last 2 albums, Paradise Lost (prog Pantera!) and The Odyssey (prog metal, not so heavy though). Very cool!

Congrats on graduating, cool that you like your job. I never knew what "loving" a job was like until I started working for my current employer. 4 1/2 years and counting, if I don't screw it up I plan to stay with this company all the way thru retirement. They even have a presence in Austin, TX, which is the only place in the world I would move to. In fact my plan is: work in Juarez, retire in Austin or someplace close to it. I just love how green it is, friendly people and lots of cool music.

Tuesdayschild: ISince Osmosis is your favorite so far, I'll go out on a limb and say you haven't heard LTE 2. You should get it before going for the Liquid Trio. I've never heard it, it's gotten mixed reviews from other fans. Then again, I see you're a keyboard player, the Liquid Trio has no guitar, so it probably has massive amounts of keyb!!

Happy 4th to all! Later!!

why does a spider about the size of a human hand require a venom which could kill out about 100 people, what does it think its going to get attacked by or eat?

still a bird eating spider in argentina taKES the biscuit, its the size of a dinner plate AND CAN JUMP 3 METRES FROM A STANDSTILL..ARGGGHHHHHHHHHH

REVAN 2008 - I "see" a lot of Joe's songs as well...that's an interesting way to describe it. It doesn't happen as often on his three latest albums, but it does quite a bit on his earlier ones.

Tuesdayschild - Welcome back! It's too bad that your camping trip was all wet, but hopefully you were still able to have some fun.

Osmosis is my favorite LTE song too...you have good taste. ;-)

The Liquid Trio Experiment album is worth getting, yes, but I'd get Liquid Tension Experiment II first. John Petrucci's wife went into labor when they were recording that album (there's a few songs that reflect that, such as When The Water Breaks)...he ended up leaving for a few days, and the other guys kept recording stuff. Some of those rough takes and jams became Liquid Trio Experiment. So it's cool to hear, but you need to hear LTE II to put it in proper context.

chojuaniche - Thanks for sharing that. I like your idea of starting with PSATMOR from start to finish. I don't think Joe would ever do that, but these setlists are kind of a fantasy anyway so that's cool.

I really like the last half of the set...you have some good stuff in there (Friends, Why, Thinking Of You, Echo, Starry Night)...

You can see my setlist by clicking on username at the beginning of my post. Let me know what you think...

hybes - Thanks for the headphones recommendation...I've heard a lot of good things about Sennheiser; so they'll probably be the next pair I buy.

And you're right, I love headphones with a lot of bass. I play bass, so that might have something to do with it, but it's also the first thing I focus on in music...I hear it as in the "center" between the drums and everything else, so it's an easy thing for me to latch onto and use as a starting point to pick apart the rest of the song in my mind.

I think you're right about MP3 players making headphones more popular, but I think it's so weird to spend a lot of money on headphones to listen to music that you're deliberately reducing in quality solely to make it portable. I use a $15 pair of Sony in-ear headphones with my MP3 player. I use the better headphones with CDs.

Each time I go back and play the CD (usually in my car) of something I listen to often on my MP3 player, I always pick up on some other layer of something buried in the background. And it bugs me to think so many people are missing out on stuff like that because they're fine with MP3s. Argh... ;-)

elpp - Hmmm...maybe LTE is your fault. I'll have to dig up that old post. I'll get back to you. ;-)

I see you're not a fan of Shinedown? I'm listening to their newest album now...I LOVE it, and I'm bummed that they're not playing in California. Oh well... What don't you like about 'em, if I can ask?

About Satch, Is There Love In Space? is currently my No. 1 Satch album...but if you were starting with one post-SBM, I'd probably go with the new one. And despite my comments, a lot of people here seem to love Super Colossal. So that's a good choice too.

I have more of your post to reply to (as well as a few others), but this post is getting long. So I'll stop now and come back to it later...

...Austin...
