Do The Stu: The Shinedown stuff I've heard does nothing to me. 45 and another song on radio, so maybe I should listen to more of their stuff, but so far it's just more of the same rock that seems to find its way to radio these days.

It's come to the point where I'd rather listen to the local NPR station than rock radio. Ironically, the same day we were at Downey, Shinedown was playing here in El Paso with Alter Bridge, some sort of street festival or something.

I really liked The Oddysey... until I heard Paradise Lost, their newest album. Now, The Odyssey sounds bland in comparison. Heck, even DT sounds bland compared to that album. If u didn't like the Odyssey, skip it and go for the new one. Even the artwork kicks butt.

King's X, I like most of their stuff up until Dogman. After that it's not that good. Dogman has a lot of very "singable" songs in many musical styles, it's the only album I kept (I had Faith Hope Love and the one that has Black Flag, sold them both). Know all the lyrics to it, which is rare for me. Get Dogman, then get their best of, and you're pretty much set. Then again, on the MP forum they recommend Faith Hope Love a lot, so u could try it as well.

Man, I went into the archives and almost cried. So many memories from what it seems such a long time ago! And so much controversy going on, which seems to be missing from here these days (and that's good, I guess).

dakawan: those are always good friends to have, the ones that work for cool bands! Now that Portnoy himself has confirmed that there will be a DVD of this tour, all that's left to find out is which show each song is from.

From where I was seated (stage right all the way back), I could see Tony wailing away on the chapman but I couldn't pick out his notes from the rest of the band. I even thought at some point that it was more of a gimmick. Now that I've seen the vids on Youtube and heard the NY bootleg, I know that it was just a matter of Petrucci's amp eating up everyone else's sound, at least where I was, don't know if it sounded differently in the rest of the venue. Do The Stu can answer this one.

And yes, please ask Mike to come to El Paso!! I'll even settle for Albuquerque!!! These flights to Phoenix and LA are killing my wallet, and Dallas/Austin/San Antonio are even more expensive!!!! jajaja.

Hi.. hope everybody is fine.

Old trip : i finally got my ten words : it is not a question of words with Joe Satriani.

bwabwahbwah..

Nevermind.

& as i prefer more & more express myself with music than words, here a song for Bass.

Bass Digression #1

There's a crap background breath onto that track. The reason is the amp, not a really good one. So the mp3 is very low. My apologies.

& enjoy your summer time.

We're moving from the UK to Canada and so for the first time didn't buy tickets to see Joe in London earlier this year, as we didn't know at the time they went on sale whether we would be here (still don't have definite moving date). Just checking to see whether the tour will be stopping by our new home later in the year but see that there is no tour stop in Vancouver! We're gutted. So sorry we missed it and hope Vancouver will be a stop on the next tour.

:-(

Hey all , just wondering if anyone might have an answer for me. Don't get me wrong I love Stu Hamm , in fact, it was the deciding factor to go see Joe this year , but does anyone have any idea what happened with Dave LaRue ? Neither seem to have anything to say about each other and all seems pretty hush hush, does anyone got the scoop??

Once again let me emphasize Stu is my favorite bass player and the main reason I took up the bass . Joe Satriani is my main musical influence and has been since Not of this Earth . He made me understand that nothing is impossible. Shortly after that, I started hearing about Stu Hamm and the stuff he was doing. I thought to myself "I knew you could do all this crazy stuff with a guitar but I never thought it could be pulled off with a bass". And with that these two men have changed my view of music. I still fully play both guitar and bass , I haven't perfected playing them both at the same time yet , I seem to be having better luck with bass and keyboards at the same time for now (I'm not kidding around about playing two instruments at the same time, and I dont mean using a sequenced keyboard, I'm talking total freestyle). I cant say it enough , thank you Joe and thank you Stu, I will see you @ Massey Hall, I cant wait , Oh YAAAAAA !!!!

Wazup Satchland!!! Does anyone have a clue what the U.S. tour setlist will be? Cant wait 'til Friday, tix go on sale in Chicago, yay!! There will be seating though; that sucks. I like to stand, jump around, wave my arms, and do air guitar, air drums, and air bass, the whole nina. The Chicago Theater seems a bit too conservative for a rock concert.... =(

People behind me are gonna be mad lol

Joe let's get some Down (3) and some Time Machine in there!!! Not Of This Earth too if its not asking too much lol. Matter of fact just play all of your songs to every album youve ever made, we'll all camp out =}

You comin' out to play Zinc?

The vid on "Steve's Spanking" was awesome. They played really well together. I looked at Vai's vid explaining his audition with Frank...."I hear Linda Ronstadt is looking for a guitarist" Busted me up. Total Frank all the way.

I want to see the Chicago show - but I have a scheduling conflict (already).

You can purchase presale tickets through the Loop now - if you are a Loyal Looper - FYI.

Tickets aren't bad through the Loop (I tried a few times to see what I would get).

floss you do know for sure if Stu is playing the N America tour? Ya never know....I remember Joe saying in Pheonix last year that it's hard to get his former bass guys out of their houses, which I guess he meant they don't like to tour anymore. Joe himself seems to love touring...

i gave Joe the messages but now i'm paranoid that he might have left them on the table that was behind him O_o... maybe i'm worrying too much?? someone asked Joe about the Coldplay thingy...he replied "oh it's flaturing" (not an exact quote...tone of voice of oh was kinda hmmm) another guy...Dave? asked about ChickenFoot - can't remember all of what Joe said but it's a go. something about getting their timing together. he said Sammy & Chad are so full of energy!!!! Joe said he couldn't play 'Love Thing' or 'If I Could Fly', 'LT' because of the pedals and stuff like that...something about how it's played. i told him alot of T2Jers want to hear 'IICF' :)

nothing from 'Crystal Planet' nooooooo - but i'm fortunate to see Joe live so i can't complain >=:o)

one_robot - Hi... Eric isn't touring with Joe, so if you hear keyboards they're just backing tracks...

REVAN 2008 - Cool...thanks for your 10/10 list. Some of my favorites from your list are Champagne?, Is There Love In Space?, and Musterion. But I like most of the ones you posted, so...

And on your second list, I REALLY like Crushing Day, Borg Sex, and Time Machine. I love Day At The Beach as well.

JguitarheadS - Hi...welcome to the site. Tell us about yourself... What other music are you into? How many times have you seen Satch in concert?
cheese101 - Awesome...thanks for those Jeff videos.
hybes - No problem...I did some digging around through old T2J posts, though, and I can't find the name of the session guitarist. I remember he had a website with sound samples up, and he promoted himself as being the guitarist in some 80s metal band. I can't remember the name, though...ugh, this is really bugging me.

Does anyone else remember this?

michelle - There's some great playing in that Stevie's Spanking video...thanks for that.

That Frank Zappa video was awesome too...and yes, I know who the Monkees are. ;-)

mikesb - I know absolutely nothing about Mahogony Rush, but I REALLY like that clip. What album is that from?
elpp - I first heard Shinedown when they opened for Van Halen in 2004. Of all the concerts I've been to, I think that was the toughest opening gig...and they were absolutely phenomenal. I'm still not really a fan of 45...I like their big single from their second album (Save Me, from Us and Them) more.

But their non-radio tracks are the better ones. They just released their third album...click here to hear some samples from it. This album is a mix of the heavy and the melodic...let me know what you think.

Thanks for the info on Symphony X and King's X. I'll keep those albums in mind the next time I go music shopping.

Regarding Tony's sound at the LTE gig...the chapman stick sounded a bit muddy to me because Jordan's keys were pretty loud. His bass came through nice and clear, though. The chapman stick sounded a bit better as the night went on, so maybe it was just a mixing problem. I'm sure it'll sound fine on the live album, whether it ends up being Downey or New York (those were the only shows recorded multitrack).

Samsquanch - As I understand it, Dave LaRue was never going to do more than just the Super Colossal cycle of touring. I don't think he had a falling out with Joe or anything like that.
Brave - Joe posts here every now and then...most of us here are pretty knowledgeable though; if you have a Satch question maybe we can help you out.
cosmic_ape - I think Crushing Day was dropped fairly early in the European tour. I'm pretty sure it was gone by the time they filmed the Paris show.
fiboacci1618 - I think it's safe to assume Stu will be with Joe for the US shows.
BigBunny - Thanks for sharing about the concert... :-) It's too bad to see Out Of The Sunrise is still missing.

Are you going to any other Aussie shows, or was this the only one?

...Austin...

Austin only this gig - it's a 3hr flight to Adelaide which means $$$ for flights and hotel. if Joe didn't stop here i'd have to fly east but he's saved me some money by always coming back here :) i hate economy/coach on planes, other people want my seat too.

no 'Out Of The Sunrise' :( don't know what it's been dropped. Joe said he can't have too many ballad type songs on the list...maybe that's why? he also said some songs get retired like my fav. 'Love Thing' and 'If I Could Fly'.

cause i went straight down the front to get my spot i didn't get a look at the merchandise...so for any other aussies reading sorry i can't help with prices etc.

oh - just added the Freo gig to my attendance thingy so i can do a review...but after i've eaten and slept zzzzz >=:o)

another thing - i think the airlines lost Galen's luggage...Joe said to him 'your luggage will turn up soon'
