Do the Stu very cool about the LTE concert. How long was the guitar rig down for, and did they get it sorted out in the end?

I went to see the band last night that wrote the song for my ex hubby who died last year. I was worried about going as he had been my ex husband, our marriage ended in 04' and he died in March 07'. THe band Twister consisted of his brother and some mates, and I was concerned that there might be some animosity towards me. But no, they warmly welcomed me and I was up headbanging away to all their tunes. When they did 'song for a friend', it was a very profound moment. As it ended, the singer hugged me from the stage and asked me if it was ok. Ok...OK, it was brilliant!!

I have a question...... Do you know of the "Via Hand Grip" product and if so what are your thoughts on it?. As I am unable to play my guitar for a lot of the day due to work comitments would you say its worth getting one for when i'm on the go?

P.S.... Thank you for all you amazing advice about my music, To have the amazing Joe Satriani the man I have tryed to play like for 10 years of my life was an amazing experince.... I Thank You, Mick and all the crew for such an amazing Europe leg of the tour. Enjoy the rest of it.....

Wow...this is a long post. Sorry about that. ;-)

Teh Extremist - The local promoters are behind the age restriction, it isn't Satch's doing. It was probably the only way they'd book a show for him.

It stinks that you'll miss him this time around, but the good news is it seems like Australia is a regular stop on his world tours now (unlike a few years ago)...so you'll almost definitely be able to catch him the next time around.

Joe Satrini - Yeah I did a lot of research before I bought my MP3 player. At first, I was thinking of buying both a huge player like the 160 GB iPod Classic for everything, and a smaller 1 or 2 GB player that I would only load up with stuff I wanted to listen to while at the gym. But I did some math (both on the cost, and on the storage capacity) and figured I'd be better off with just one player. I wanted something flash-based, so it'd be better at the gym, and that limited my choices somewhat.

Creative makes some good players, and I considered them for a while, but they didn't have the capacity I wanted. So I was pretty set on getting the 8 GB iPod Nano, but then I heard about SanDisk's new Sansa View. I forget what I paid for it, around $250 I think...it was about twice the capacity of the iPod Nano for the same price. And you can get my player for about $100 less today, I bet.

It's very reliable. The battery life is great (20-something hours), and it can take a beating...I've dropped it once or twice, and it gets thrown around in my gym bag yet still works fine. I've had it for about 9 months, and there have been maybe three times where it just stopped working with no explanation. But I let it sit for about 30 minutes and then it just works. It's been at least four months since it last did something like that though...so maybe it had something to do with it being a new unit.

About Super Colossal, yeah...I feel that way about most of the album. Exceptions would be Redshift Riders and Ten Words (if you look at my setlist here you'll see those two songs are still in it), which I think are two of the best songs Satch has done in recent years. I also don't think the song Super Colossal fits my description, but it still isn't one of my favorites as far as Joe's "singles" go. I'll try to listen to the album tonight, and I'll be more specific with my comments and try to reference track numbers and time codes.

Tuesdayschild - Tony Levin has a road diary on his website, and he says he thought the guitar rig was down for 10 or 15 minutes...but I'd say it was closer to five.

It happened maybe a minute or two before the keyboard solo in Universal Mind. John switched to a backup guitar, but that didn't do anything. By this point, Jordan was into his solo...and John and his tech were scrambling around, unplugging and replugging everything. Mike scribbled a note on a piece of paper (basically, "keep soloing") and showed it to Jordan. So he kept going until John fixed the problem.

This is funny because the other night in Chicago, Jordan's rig went down. The other three guys jammed for an hour or so while he tried to fix it, but he couldn't. So they stopped the show after that huge improv jam.

Anyway, about your concert...do you have an MP3 of that "Song For A Friend"? I remember looking at that site for it earlier but couldn't find it.

I ended up not going to that Led Zepagain show (the girl didn't want to)...instead, I went with some other friends to a screening of a Hitchcock movie at a cemetery up in Hollywood. That was really cool...

njbeast - You think you'll make it to a Satch gig in San Francisco? I may have to go up there for a show, then...it'd be cool to meet you.
REVAN 2008 - Cool...new computers are fun, aren't they?
ibanezguitars - I watched most of the match on TV, but I was out running errands during part of it and of course I missed the goal...argh.

...Austin...

Hey, guitar techies...

Would you guys recommend a noise suppressor before or after distortion? Or does anyone prefer noise gates?

Slightly off topic, I know, but thanks!

Has anyone had trouble buying tickets from Joe's site? I have been trying to get premium tickets for the Dallas show for 3 days now and everytime I try to buy them, I get a message that says can't find any seats for my order. Have I missed something? Surely the show isn't sold out yet.

Do the Stu - I think I get what you're saying about Super Colossal cd. It's kind of like the lead riffs are behind the rythm guitars at times. It's certainly different than most of his work. He definately went back the other way on Prof Satch.

hybes...you're right, there's no way to get any tickets of any kind for that show, which means there's prolly a glitch at Ticketmaster for some wierd reason. You might try calling the venue directly at (214) 978-2583 or, if it was me, I'd be calling Ticketmaster directly for the Dallas area at (214)-373-8000 and asking them what up. You might be able to order your tix by phone. Good luck, I hope they still have some Club Joe for you if that's what you want.

PS, here's another ph# you could try if you need it, Ticketmaster Express* (866)-448-7849

Hi there. I thought the Song for a Friend played automatically when the website was entered, it does on my computer but not on everyones I guess. Anyway, last night they paid some bloke £50 to record the show for Youtube, so I'll post to it when it appears, although I'm not too sure if I should. The camera kept pointing round in my direction and I was slightly inebriated and - oh dear- headbanging. Thank goodness my two kids weren't there (wouldn't have been a suitable venue for children anyway) I wouldn't have been a cool mum then. But still, I had a great time!!

Sorry to hear the girl in question didn't go to the Zep tribute band, but good to hear you made a good night of it anyway.

The Rubber Plants, my buddies (I'm friend to the stars now!) were playing at that same event last night. Unfortunately at the same time, different stages. It meant I kept having to run back and forth to see them both!! The bar was in between both bands, made too many pit stops there! The drummer told me he has the same kit as John Bonham, but his day job is working in a music shop so I suppose he'd be the guy to get it!

As for LTE, I'm really getting into this album (the first one). I'm leaving for a camping trip in the morning, no access to a computer for two weeks so no way of charging up the ipod, so when it runs out of life I'll have to do without!

Strandhill, Sligo, here we come!

Any of you folks seen Steely Dan on their current tour? Wish they were coming over to the UK but not much chance of that this year.

Oh, I see there's a discussion going on about mp3 players. Well, I have a second generation iPod which has been brilliant for the last goodness knows how many years now. My lad has a nice black 4GB nano which has also been superb. I may invest in an 3G iPhone later this year - I foresee huge potential for the things.

Hey Joe, Where ya goin with that gun in your hand...

I got my airline tickets...From Alaska to Texas to see Joe at the House of Blues in Dallas Nov 6th. Am I ever ready! Hell yeah!!

I am still trying to find a Meet and Greet package for that show. I have one question Joe:

1. When are you coming to Anchorage Alaska? You will have no problems selling tickets at all.

There are a many guitarists here (as in any state, I suppose) and many more woodshedders. I recently purchased the JS1200 and play the hell outa it. It's a nice ride.

So, here's another question:

I bought the JS1200 under the 20 Year Anniversary promotion for Surfing With the Alien. The autographed CD/DVD still hasn't been shipped to me, and I bought the guitar back in November last year. I guess I'll have to get a meet and greet ticket and bring my own old ass copy of SWTA--get it autographed.

Anyways, come on up to the Last Frontier and blow the roof off the dump. The stadium, arena, or concert hall is called The Sullivan Arena. It's not the best facility as far as acoustics are concerned, but Anchorage has a wild crowd that will appreciate your appearance.

jdlespaul: I'm considering asking Joe that at the meet 'n' greet session, if no one else asks. Tommy is amazing, and it would be great to see him alongside Joe, the contrast in styles would really work, methinks, and Tommy's stage presence just outdoes everyone else(s).

Hello, I built a kayak earlier this year, check out the photos. It's called JimiJoe and is some sort of rock-kayak with Joe and Jimi pictures on it. It took about 200 hours to finish it.

Cheese - Thanks for the info. I was beginning to think I didn't know how to work the site or something. It was frustrating. I'm very excited to see the show. Is the Premium the way to go? Or is the step up the way to go? Any preference?
